Presidents Update
Well, Christmas is a distant memory. We have had four shoots already, including the postponed
2014 Christmas gala shoot – well organised thanks to Bev and Tony Coleman. I know many of
you were still away on holiday, so if we have to postpone the shoot in the future, we should hold
it once school is back and more youngsters are available to attend.
A team went up to Oromahoe for the Northern Regional Championship, where some
outstanding individual results were achieved, but we were beaten into third place. Still, it was
a great day. Thanks to those who made the effort. Better luck next year (it will be held on our
range on Auckland Anniversary weekend in 2016).
Colin Pike has put together an interesting party hunts programme for the next few months – see
details later in the newsletter. This also provides an excellent opportunity for our six provisional
HUNTS instructors to get more experience planning and leading parties on hunting trips.
The Branch will run two HUNTS courses this year. The dates are being agreed now and we will
advise dates and nominations in March or April. If you are interested in a HUNTS course, get
your name down now by email to info@nads.org.nz. People are accepted in the order in which
their nominations are received.
The property looks in great shape (except for the gorse!). Tony Coleman has been tireless over
the holidays and is masterminding a number of new and ongoing works. The gorse remains a
problem, but we have a cunning plan involving a towed spray unit and volunteers with knapsack
sprayers – see more in the working bee notice.
We have a working bee on 15 Feb. Please make time to attend, if only to man the BBQ. We
can’t expect Tony and his (small) band of regular helpers to do everything. We expect every
member to attend at least two working bees per year. Please help if you can.
You will not see a list of members’ night topics for 2015 – that’s because there are none
planned (with the exception of the prize giving on 8 July). The committee hopes you will
contribute your ideas and to this end has designated the members’ nights for Feb and Mar
simply as pot luck suppers and BYO refreshments. On these nights we will discuss what
members want and get a list of topics and events together.
Lastly, please remember that this is your newsletter, and your contributions are always
welcome. Even a joke or two, as long as they don’t result in a Fatwa or a Papal encyclical.
