Fifth Sunday of Easter
6 de Mayo
Quinto Domingo de Pascua
Congratulations to our 32 confirmandi, and to Auxiliary Bishop
George Sheltz!
What a special week this has been, for our Archdiocese and our
parish, leading up to this special day! We at Most Holy Trinity
offer our sincere congratulations to our new Auxiliary Bishop
George Sheltz. This past Tuesday at solemn vespers he was
invested with the Miter and Crosier,
symbols of his office. Then on
Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 he was
ordained by our Ordinary, Daniel Cardinal
DiNardo. Congratulations, Bishop Sheltz!
Thank you for your many years of service
in this Archdiocese. We look forward to
having you many more years to come in
your new role as our Auxiliary Bishop.
And we are especially blessed that on this
first Sunday after Bishop Sheltz’
ordination he is with us to administer the
Sacrament of Confirmation for 27 youth
and four adults. Congratulations to each
and every one of you! May you be
strengthened by the Gifts of the Holy
Spirit, which you receive in a special manner today, and may
they continue to grow and guide you throughout all the days of
your life! Thank you for your witness and your commitment.
And I offer a heartfelt thanks to the catechists! Your role is so
important in forming both youth and adults to walk in the ways
of the Lord and his Church. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
As we ended the religious education year with our annual May
Crowning, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each
student as well. It is good that you have come to grow a little bit
more in your knowledge of the Faith. May God fill you with
blessings as you begin to focus on summer and vacations!
And, unless something completely unforeseen has happened, we
will be having a reception with our newly confirmed in St.
Basil’s Hall with air conditioning! We lost our A/C last
November, and have finally installed a new system. More to
come on that in a future bulletin.
¡Felicitaciones a nuestros 32 nuevos confirmados, y al obispo
auxiliar George Sheltz!
sinceras felicitaciones a nuestro nuevo Obispo Auxiliar George
Sheltz.
nuevo sistema. Más información sobre esto en un boletín
futuro.

GOSPEL REFLECTION,
Fifth Sunday of Easter
REFLEXCION DEL EVANLIO,
Quinto Domingo de Pascua
In a Cathedral in Brussels
there is an alter with a glass
surface that is supported by
two pelicans, one with closed
wings, the other with its wings
wide open. This has been
adopted by Christians to
symbolize the sacrifice of
Christ on the cross. In the
Brussels Cathedral altar, the pelican with the closed
wings represents the contemplative, praying Church, and
the pelican with the open wings is the active, outreaching
Church. Both elements, contemplative prayer and
outreach, were integral parts of Christ’s life.
But we are in danger if we focus too much on prayer
or good works, when we obsess on one or the other.
Jesus wrote no book and built no church building. He
entrusted his message to his friends. He assured them that
he would be with them always. Their strength would be
in their unity and their unity would be centered on him.
Things haven’t changed. Our very survival today depends
on that unity both as individuals and as communities.
Why should I go to church? Can’t I meet God on my
own? Jesus was very emphatic on that point: “I am the
vine, you are the branches.” (John 15:5). The vine and the
branches are one. To say, “I will follow Christ but I don’
want to be part of the Church,” is to separate Christ from
the Church, to cut the branches from the vine.
We gather around the altar to be united to Christ, to be
joined in community and communion, (not democracy,
but community) to be nourished by word and Eucharist,
to go out empowered. There is no such thing as a solitary
Christian. United with Christ, we can do anything.
Separated from him, we can do nothing.
Today, our liturgy together, is an image of the vine
and the branches. The vine is Jesus and the wine is Jesus.
Wine and bread, the sign of the love we share and the life
we seek together.
- Deacon Rob
¿Acaso no puedo encontrar
a Dios por mi cuenta? Jesús fue muy enfático en este punto:
“Yo soy la vid, ustedes los sarmientos.” (Juan 15:5).
solitario no existe. Unidos a Cristo podemos hacer cualquier
cosa.
- Deacon Rob

Trinity Book Nook
has acquired 20
copies of a very
special CD--- Gifts
of Grace by “fait”
includes Susan
Ramsower and her
daughters Emily and
Heidi. Susan is the
Youth Minister / Music Director at Elizabeth Ann
Seton Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX. AND
the sister-in-law of our parishioner, Becky Brown,
Susan said the word “fiat” means “yes”, or more
specifically, Mary’s “yes” to God’s plan of
redemption. The Group started performing
together at the youth mass on Sunday nights. One
parishioner, Tom Rehkopf, was so moved by their
music and felt strongly that it should be heard
beyond their parish, that he offered to produce a
CD. This CD, Gifts of Grace is now for sale in
Trinity Book Nook for $14.00 plus tax.
Be ready to experience beautiful and compelling
vocals accompanied by piano, harp, cello, and
percussion, of many favorite songs including
“Send Us Flowing Water”, “King of Glory”, and
“Amazing Grace”. You’ll also hear three original
pieces by members of the group. So, buy a copy
TODAY and fill your Easter season with joyful
music!
