We will crown our statue of Mary prior to the
start of each Mass next weekend. This tradi"on
stems from our reference to Mary as Queen of
Heaven. Mary is the mother of Christ, the Word
Incarnate, the messianic King. It is fi%ng that
we at St. Thomas use Mother’s Day to both
celebrate our earthly mothers and honor our
Blessed Mother.

Welcome to St. Thomas the Apostle · Billings, MT 59102
Outreach
Social Jus!ce
It is easy to judge others, but we can only
progress on our Chris!an journey in life if we are
capable of judging ourselves first… We are all
masters, professors of self-jus!fica!on: “No it
wasn’t me, it’s not my fault, maybe yes, but not
so much...that’s not the way it is…”. We all have
an alibi to explain away our shortcomings, our
sins, and we are o#en to put on a face that says,
“I do not know” a face that says, “I didn’t do it,
maybe someone else did” - an innocent face.
This is no way to lead a Chris!an life.
It is easier to blame others… something strange
happens if we try to behave differently: if we
begin to look at the things we are capable of
doing, at first we feel bad, we feel disgust, yet
this in turn gives us peace and makes us healthy.
...when I feel envy in my heart and I know that
this envy is capable of speaking ill of others and
morally assassina!ng them, this is the wisdom of
judging oneself. If we do not learn this first step
in life, we will never, never be able to take other
steps on the road of our Chris!an life, of our
spiritual life.
The first step is to judge ourselves. Without
saying anything out loud. Between you and your
conscience. Walking down the street, I pass by a
prison and say, “Well, they deserve it”. Yet do
you know that if it weren’t for the grace of God
you would be there? Did you ever think that you
are capable of doing the things that they have
done, even worse? This is what judging yourself
means, not hiding from the roots of sin that are
in all of us, the many things we are capable of
doing, even if we cannot see them.
Pope Francis
Knights of Columbus Blood Drive
Please give the Gi! of Life through a blood
dona"on here at our St. Thomas gym on
Tuesday, May 12th. Your admirable act of
generosity will help many in need, as one
dona!on can save up to three lives. Volunteer
sign-up sheets are in the ves"bule. Please
consider being a life-saving
blood donor this month!
On Thursday, May 7th, the PCCW will
pray the beau!ful Scriptural Rosary
following the 9:00 am Mass.
A!erwards there will be a short
mee"ng with light refreshments to introduce their
slate of officers.
Save the date as Cum Christo/Cursillo
celebrates its 50th anniversary in Eastern
Montana this year. The celebra"on will be held
June 19th through June 21st at Billings Central
Catholic High School. It will be an occasion filled
with music, prayer and fellowship.
ALIVE INSIDE
All are invited Thursday,
May 21 to the Parish Center at 7:00 pm for a
screening of the documentary, “Alive Inside:
The Story of Music & Memory”. This video
portrays the pioneering work of Dan Cohen,
who has brought personalized music to seniors
with memory loss - an alterna"ve method of
caring for our elders which offers dignity, hope
and inspira"on.
st
Amy Peterson of Canyon Creek Memory Care
Community will be available to answer any
ques"ons and to share personal stories. To
assist Canyon Creek with their program, please

residents.

caregivers, adult children & friends. Call Pam at
656-9495.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Mark your calendars NOW for
St. Thomas the Apostle’s VBS
June 22nd – 25th,
(Monday – Thursday)
9 am – 12 noon
Ages: 4 year olds – students going into 6th grade
We are in need of volunteers who are willing to HELP with VBS.
If you are a parent, teen, grandparent or an adult who would like to
help with this fun-packed week, give Joyce a call at the church office.
You can help out in the following ways:
 TEACH a class – the lesson plans are laid out and are easy to follow.
 CRAFTS –the directions are very easy to follow and all the supplies are in
the room ready to go.
 MUSIC – if you are musical and/or play the guitar, WE NEED YOU!!!!
CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE, 656-5800, TODAY & VOLUNTEER!

SUNDAY CHILDREN’S LITURGY of the WORD:
We are hoping to continue Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the summer, BUT in order to
do this we will need parents, grandparents, or teens who would be willing to lead it
during the summer months. Ideally, we are hoping
to have enough volunteers that you would only be
asked to commit once a month.
The children are dismissed right before the First
Reading and come back right after the Prayers of
the Faithful, which is approximately 20 minutes.
The readings and lesson are laid out and easy to
use! The kids make it super easy and are happy to
be there! If you would be willing to be a part of
this wonderful ministry, please call the church
office, 656-5800, and talk to Joyce. Thanks!
