work in machine design, construction and operation.
This is a so-called basic education course, „since always” present within the Mechanical Faculty. The basic
subject blocks like mathematics, physics, informatics
and foreign languages shape the general student’s
knowledge in this course. A student acquires a directional speciality by studying mechanics, material strength,
materials science, thermodynamics, mechanisms and
machines theory, principles of machine design, computeraided engineering techniques, manufacturing
techniques etc. Specialities in this course provide a
graduate with detailed knowledge on e.g. hydraulic
machines, land vehicles, operation and diagnostics of

The present-day biomedical engineering intensivelyuses the newest achievements of numerous fields of
knowledge. Thank to this, the newest technical solutions used in medicine are characterisedby high degree
of technical advancement that requires effi cient use
of knowledge in mathematics, electronics, informatics
and biology. This syllabus allows the students to become acquainted with principles of designing and testing
modern implants, artificial organs, manipulators and
medical robots cooperating with navigation systems, as
well as enriches their knowledge onbiomaterials.
Graduates from this course will be prepared for solving
engineering problems accompanied with designing
new technical means in medicine andusing existing
ones, as well as for solving complexresearch problems,
which guarantees goodgrounds for the persons who
aspire at scientific/research work in biomedical engineering.
The syllabus contains a block of courses that allows
improving skills at designing, planning and performing
experimental research, as well as using modern computer systems for modelling andsimulation of biologi-
and scientific area.
