Friday, September 6 (5-7pm) & Saturday, September 7 (10am-5pm) by Andrea Moran I magination comes to life once again at WCTE’s 18th annual Stations of Imagination at Fall FunFest on the Square in Cookeville. Join us on Amigo Street, TTU Blvd, and Safety Lane, where this year’s event will feature two of PBS television’s favorite characters: Sesame Street’s Walkaround Honker and Super Why’s very own Super Why and Princess Pesto. Started in honor of Sawyer, a young boy who loved Elmo Super Why throughout his short eighteen-month life, WCTE’s Stations of Imagination at Fall FunFest “is an opportunity to come together as a family to celebrate our son,” commented Rena Johnston, Sawyer’s mother. “Over the past seventeen years we’ve had the pleasure of watching so many young people grow and continue Honker to share a love for all PBS shows. Stations of Imagination offers a free, family fun day. Besides our family, many volunteers pull together to give back by planning fun activities for the children in our community.” The Zinghoppe rs Just as WCTE brings the shows that children know and love into their homes, Stations of Imagination at Fall FunFest brings PBS and its characters to the Upper Cumberland. Also stopping by this year is the popular Zinghoppers, who will perform on Saturday at 11:00am and 1:00pm. All ages can join in our Silent Disco premiere, where everyone is encouraged to get up and dance to the music in their own heads! And for those interested in a behindthe-scenes look at TV programming, WCTE’s mobile lab will open its doors and give kids the opportunity to recite portions of the Gettysburg Address as a promotional spot for the upcoming Ken Burns documentary, The Address. This year’s event is shaping up to be the best one yet, so join in the fun with the whole family at WCTE’s Stations of Imagination at Fall FunFest! A big thank you goes out to our sponsors. You Rock! FREE FILM SCREENINGS The Graduates/Los Graduados The Graduates/Los Graduados is a two-part, two-hour documentary program. Each episode of The Graduates profiles three students who were in danger of dropping out of high school. The first hour of the series tells the stories of three young women who, through a combination of educational and community resources, as well as supportive families, are able to surmount the obstacles that might have prevented them from completing their education. In the second hour, we meet three young men who have struggled with challenges such as immigration status, brushes with the law, and bullying. With a combination of community and family support, each student is able to find a program that helps him to remain in school, further his education, and get involved in his community. She shares a Rickman cabin with a labradoodle named Willow and a gentleman she simply refers to as “my honey.” A native of Cookeville, she has 4 children ranging in ages from 13 to 23 plus a two-year old grandson. Celeste joined WCTE as an account manager in February. She came to the station with a background in banking. She also once co-owned a furniture store and she’s all about customer service. “It’s a challenge I enjoy,’ Celeste enthused. “ Some people are born to serve the public. I’m one of those people.” While you may have been entertained by her sparkling personality as one of the on-air hosts at the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree, Celeste’s true work as an account manager involves helping businesses find the perfect fit for program sponsorship so they can reach their target markets in Middle Tennessee, southern Kentucky and of course, the Upper Cumberland. That mission takes her all around the counties in our region. “We are the PBS station of the Upper Cumberland – the only TV station within a 75-mile radius,” commented Celeste. “People throughout our region not only have to be familiar with us – they have to know we are working for them.” “It excites me to go to places like Rugby and Rock Island and our many other vital communities in the Upper Cumberland. I am inspired by the creativity and artistic values of many of those hometown businesses.” “I love my job and I love having a productive flow to my life. When you look forward to to going to work everyday, it just makes you happy.” If you are interested in contacting the happy Celeste Flatt to look into WCTE program sponsorship opportunities, please email her at cflatt@wcte.org or give her a call at 931.528.2222, ext 301. Full of zesty humor, authentic characters and glorious dialogue, it’s about timeless love. Childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other a second time when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. As their lives collide, the couple laments what might have been as they begin a life-affirming journey together. While their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age, it is also a story about family — a family with baggage. Alan and Celia’s daughters, whose dysfunctional lives bring drama at every turn, would never dream of getting in the way of their parents’ happiness. But somehow they just can’t help themselves. The original “Game of Thrones” has inspired bold film adaptations with a cast of leading British and Hollywood talent. These are bloody tales of family, politics and power — they tell the rise and fall of three kings and how their destiny shaped English history. Richard II (Ben Whishaw) is a vain, self-indulgent man who rules with little regard for his people’s welfare. He is ultimately overthrown by his cousin Bolingbroke (Rory Kinnear), who ascends the throne as Henry IV (Jeremy Irons). Henry IV’s reign is marred by his own guilt over Richard’s death, civil war, and the gnawing fear that his son Hal (Tom Hiddleston) is a total wastrel unworthy of the throne. When Hal comes to the throne as Henry V, he is left to bury the ghosts of his father’s past while fighting both the French forces as well as his own inner demons. Mondays, Sept. 23 – Oct. 14 after Antiques Roadshow MON SEP 23 9/8c Premieres G after Antiques Roadshow ENEALOGY ROADSHOW’s premiere season feature participants from four American cities —Nashville, Austin, San Francisco and Detroit — who want to explore unverified genealogical claims passed down through family histories that may (or may not) connect them to an event or an historical figure. These cities were chosen as American crossroads of culture, diversity, industry and history with deep pools of potential participants and stories. Experts in genealogy, history and DNA use heirlooms, letters, pictures, historical documents and other clues to hunt down 22 | WCTE Close-Up details. Producers enlist the help of local historians to add color and context to the investigations, ensuring every artifact and every name becomes a clue in solving the mystery. Many answers will be revealed on camera before a local audience, in a historic building relevant to the cities’ – and the participants’ – histories “Nashville is a natural fit for GENEALOGY ROADSHOW. The city’s southern hospitality, rich background, and historical roots date back to its dominance as a major shipping port where people from all over came to sell their goods,” said executive producer Stuart Krasnow. “We’re looking for a diverse mix of stories from locals who want to know more about their history.” “The stories of everyday people, told in some of America’s most extraordinary locations, will make GENEALOGY ROADSHOW the perfect destination for people who love history and real-life drama,” said Beth Hoppe, Chief Programming Executive and General Manager of General Audience Programming for PBS. “GENEALOGY ROADSHOW is about anyone and everyone, proving that you don’t have to be famous to be remarkable.” thank you 2013 Directors’ Circle Program Sponsors A grateful and sincere thank you to our valued underwriters!
