Praise
 For the chance to celebrate our wonderful teachers today,
Teacher’s Day. The Board hosts the teaching staff for a lunch
in Guatavita and then for a hiking tour of the Laguna Sagrada.
We are thankful for our 1 Canadian, 27 U.S., and 14
Colombian teachers as well as our 6 classroom aides and 7
academic administrators. What a blessing!
 For the chance to celebrate our new National Honor Society
members that were inducted this week.
 For the excellent Science Fair that our students shared this
past week! What creativity and hard work!
 After last week’s vision visit, Marv Retzer has accepted the
invitation to be our next high school principal. Pray for him
and his wife Judy as they try to quickly move through the
myriad of logistical details to arrive here to start ECA.
 We have an application in hand for a 3rd grade teacher and
another ESL specialist. . .pray as we check references, and
pray for God to guide.
 For the use of new office spaces!
Prayer
 For Isabel Garzon, one of our maids, who needs
God’s special presence and comfort after the
unexpected death of her mother whom she lived
with. She died of a heart attack last weekend.
 For 7th grader Ye Jae Kim as he continues to recover
after his serious post-operative bleeding. His vision
is still not back to normal.
 For the needed HS English teacher! This is one of
our last major staff holes to fill for 2011-12.
 For all the logistics for the end-of-the-year outreaches and
activities.
 For Glenn and Glenda Moyer as they are at a mission meeting
in Spain this week.
 For all of our new teachers who are in the process of raising
support, doing visa paperwork, and handling other logistics.
 For several of our current ECA teachers as they seek to find
God’s clear direction for them next year as far as new jobs,
new living situations, and new circles of friends.
 For wisdom as we deal with the current traffic situation that
affects the starting time of school each day.
 For the admissions team as they study different applications
for ECA.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
The El Camino Chapter of the National Honor Society
(NHS) is pleased to announce that the following
students have been inducted:
Catalina Alonso
Daniela Chaves
David Cubillos
Eric Gomez
Diana Macias
Sierra Owens-Hughes
El Camino's standing members, Lina Cala Yang-Hee Kim, Jesus
Ernesto Moreno, Jairo Muñoz and Karen Trujillo, were among those
welcoming these new members at a breakfast on Tue, May 10.
The National Honor Society was founded in 1921 as an
organization to recognize and encourage academic achievement
while also developing other characteristics essential to being
productive citizens. These ideals of scholarship, character,
service, and leadership remain necessary and relevant today.
Now, 90 years later, NHS has become a prestigious organization.
Membership is thus both an honor and a commitment.
Congratulations to our newest El Camino NHS members!

TRANSPORTATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
Due to the difficult traffic situation near the entrance to
Guaymaral because of the terrible condition of the Guaymaral
road, we are working with other schools
and the police to try to make appropriate
adjustments. The turnaround near Bima
which is usually for traffic going south on
the Autopista is also being used for traffic
going north that wants to go south - with police directing.
Some of our school vans will be starting their routes 15-30
minutes earlier, and students may have some extra time at ECA
to play or study before school, due to arriving before the
heaviest traffic flow time.
Parents need to make the
appropriate adjustments to arrive earlier so we can start classes
at 7:40a as usual. We have supervision in place starting at 7:00a
each day and will make needed changes. All van riders should
expect an email with any route changes. This will go into effect
Monday morning (May 16) as needed.

A few important things to keep in mind:

ALL library materials – books, DVD's, magazines, etc. – are
due back in the library by Fri, May 20. Check on ParentsWeb
to see what your family still has out, and start turning things
in as you can. FYI, due dates in ParentsWeb may not reflect
our May 20 deadline.

All textbooks checked out throughout the year need to be
checked in at the end of the year. If students turn in
textbooks different from the ones checked out to them, they
will be thanked and asked to search for the textbook they
are responsible for. You should have received an email
earlier this week saying what textbooks your children have
checked out.
Elementary textbook check-in will be during assigned times
for each grade. Secondary check-in will be in the new
library on the 2nd floor on Wed - Fri of exam week, May 2527.

Report cards will be held for students with unreturned
textbooks on their account. If you know that a textbook has
been lost, please contact the library as soon as possible – it
will make our job easier.

Students are welcome to check out books for the summer,
but their accounts must be clean to be able to do so. Books
can be checked out during the last week of school.

PLAN PADRINO
Strengthening ties of love
PTF is looking for families with the gift of hospitality to
“adopt” our foreign teachers and commit to:
Pick them up at the airport.
Invite them to sleep their first night in Colombia in your
home and give them a good breakfast.
Take them to their new apartment where they will be
living the next day.
Take them grocery shopping and orient them to what is
available here.
Invite them for a dinner at your home sometime
during their first week in Colombia.
Take them to your church the first Sunday.
Keep in touch monthly.
If you are interested, in being an adoptive family for 2011-12,
write PTF@eca.edu.co and/or Events@eca.edu.co.

ECA SUMMER SCHOOL 2011

world! The team that is orchestrating our
summer school will be leading tours on campus
to various English-speaking countries, helping
students learn about new cultures and societies

in fun ways. The focus will still be on writing, reading, speaking,
and vocabulary to help students improve their English skills.
Students required to have 20, 40 or 60 hours of English
reinforcement are especially encouraged to take advantage of
this economical and excellent option.
Remember, choosing another venue for reinforcement (like a
tutor) needs pre-approval to ensure that the level of support will
be sufficient to prepare students for the next grade level.
Dates:
June 13 - July 1
Cost:
$100.000/week
Discount: 10% Early Payment (paid by June 4)
discount price for 3 weeks = $270.000
For any questions or concerns, please contact Olga Baron at
OlgaBaron@eca.edu.co.

ECA 11th GRADER — AMAZON MISSIONS TRIP
You can find a lot of interesting
things in the Amazons: mosquitoes
that are twice the normal size; heat
that allows you to fry eggs on the
sidewalk; moto-taxi fares that range
from $1.000 to 3.000 to take you to
Brazil. To me, the most interesting
thing is the most heartbreaking
thing: abused kids, broken people,
broken hearts, and lost souls. It is the passion that the Lord has
given me for the lost that is pushing me to get ready for yet
another journey (my 4th) to the beautiful jungle. The Lord has
not failed to surprise me with His plans. He does it so often that
I’m learning to live my life by the much-heard phrase, “Letting
go gives a better grip.”
My letting go consists of letting God guide me to the Amazon for
2 months to work with YWAM. I will be volunteering as a
translator as well as helping with many medical brigades June
ECA Bulletin#30-33

through August. Also, I will be helping out in the orphanage
where I volunteered last summer.
I ask you a big favor. Pray. Pray that the Lord will work in my
heart and in those that I will meet so we can see HIM in spite of
the chaos around us. Pray that people are impacted with how
overwhelming and fulfilling the love and grace of Jesus is.
I still need $350.000 (about $200) to cover all costs. If you would
like to make any donations, you can give it to the Cashier.
Main necessities:
