July/August 2016 Newsletter
June has gone by very quickly this year and we are headed into the heart of summer with July and August. Ministry
changes during the summer but we continually grow and blossom with many activities. It is also time for vacations
rest and recreation and new adventures.
Youth in Luther League with adult sponsors are heading to Branson, Missouri and Silver Dollar City to enjoy the
Ozark Hills and the beauty and heat of Southwest Missouri. Also they do several service projects along with
devotions and building relationships. They leave later this year, July 25th. Please keep them in your prayers. Church
camp at Camp Lutherdale begins July 17th through 22nd. Camp is fun and exciting and we have many eager campers
attending. Thank you to everyone who sponsored campers and who helped with the Luther League trip. Your generosity makes these ministries possible.
In August school begins before the month is over, so we are having the Blessing of Backpacks and Rally Day on Sunday, August 28th. Again, Rally Day will be a special event with an Antique Car Show, food, and lots of activities for
the whole family and our neighborhood that Sunday afternoon. Plan right now on saving the date – August 28th – and
invite your friends and family to join us here at Trinity and spend the whole day with us.
We continue to have ministry events going on in the summer and we always worship every week. Summer is a great
time to invite family and friends to come with you: Saturday – 5:30 p.m.; Sunday – 8:30 a.m. & 10:30 a.m. We are
continuing to celebrate the Lord’s Supper every week. Take time to rest and recreate, but join us for worship
whenever you can.

Church Council Highlights
Pastor Mike reviewed May attendance numbers and
we were on par with last year. Council members reviewed May revenues and expenses and some discussion followed. Council members agreed that focusing
on one or two special funds at a time was the way to
go. Financial Secretary Joan Buschbach created and
shared a May narrative report.
From a brief discussion about filling out green cards,
council inquired about new members. This led to a
discussion about staff and member responses to visitors and potential new members. We now receive
new members as they ask. The Elders will discuss
this more.

Chris Reich and James Mayer will join Linda, Cathy,
and Pastor at the Synod Assembly. Pastor announced
that VBS preparation was going well and that helpers
had to be turned away due to the huge response. Pastor’s eye surgery is scheduled for July 14. The golf
outing had a large number of early registrants, but
many did not show up for the event. Some had prepaid, some had not, but the net total for the day appears to be around $9,000.00. Pastor golfed for the
first time in 40+ years and blamed his “off day’ on his
bad eye. A big thanks to all the committee members,
especially Heather Huscher who “rocked” the raffle
baskets.

The Deacons discussed shortening or canceling their
meeting if there were no pressing issues.
John Boecker for the Trustees shared that correspondence with the roofing company have not gone well
and Trustees will be looking for a new vendor. He
also reviewed current maintenance staffing.
Jan Wenski trained Elders as to altar preparation and
she is currently training interested families. Pastor
reviewed plans for communion every week and
younger children receiving the Lord’s Supper.

Simply Giving will be explained and promoted again
in the upcoming Steward. Creation of the pictorial
directory suffered some setbacks, but should be ready
by the end of June. And an interesting comment that
the Church could be “less spooky” was left in the
Suggestion Box.

From the Pastor
Some random thoughts on a beautiful summer day: All the seasons are God’s gifts to us as the earth is
in that special place that is just perfect for life. Summer highlights God’s gift of creation and life with
the lush growing season and summer warmth just right for rest and recreation and enjoying God’s creation. I hope you enjoy the summer season. Once again, studies show that Americans do not take all of
their vacation time. I encourage you to do so. It is important that we rest and let God refresh and recreate us through time off and time to do other things especially spend time with our families, time
alone, and time to enjoy life. We have an amazing and beautiful country and summer is the best time
to see it and enjoy the gift God has given us.
My summer will be a little different this year. I am having eye surgery again on Thursday, July 14th.
They will work on my retina to fix another tear and I’ll receive a cornea transplant. Right now, I plan
to be out about 10 days, but we will have to wait and see. The surgery is being done at UIC by the
co-chairs of the Ophthalmology Department, so I’m in good hands. Thank to everyone for your
encouragement and especially your prayers. God is good, and we always entrust ourselves to God’s
healing love.
Holy Communion continues to be offered every Sunday. So far, the Elders and I have not received any
feedback so we will continue to offer it every weekend. Thank you to the Elders and all those who
prepare communion every week and especially Jan Wenski who oversees it all. Your service makes
this possible. It has been exciting to see people come up for communion week after week as we
celebrate God’s gift to us in the body and blood of Jesus. Most of the time the services have been 65
minutes in length at the Sunday 8:30 a.m. service and usually less than that at the Praise and Saturday
evening services. During the summer we will vary the worship services to keep them fresh and
inviting. Also, we will again sing the Lord’s Prayer on the fourth weekend of the month. God bless
you as you worship and receive this gift of life.
During the summer months we are emphasizing our Deficit Reduction Special Fund. During the year
we will highlight several special funds as we have need. Right now, we have a deficit of over $18,000
and are borrowing to cover expenses. We invite you to give to this special fund to reduce our deficit.
All the money received goes for this purpose. Thank you for your offerings to our General Fund to
carry out all the ministries that we do, and your generous contributions to the Special Funds. Already,
we have highlighted the Curtain Fund and the Bus Fund, and your gifts have fully funded those needs.
Trinity is a generous congregation and we thank you.
Although children don’t want to think about school yet, since they just finished this school year, we are
already planning for Rally Day in August and school will have begun. Mark the date for Sunday,
August 28th, and plan to join us for a wonderful day. Our car show continues to grow and we have fun
activities for the whole family. Join us for worship when we will have the blessing of backpacks and
blessing of families and children. Then, stay or return for the fun of the day. We have many volunteers and generous businesses that make this day possible. It is a great opportunity to bring friends and
introduce them to Trinity. I’ll see you there!
Summer seems to rush past quickly nowadays. Slow it down just a little and enjoy summer. Take time
for yourselves. Take time for God. Enjoy God’s creation. God will bless you as you do.

Reduction Fund
During the summer
months we invite you to contribute to our
Deficit Reduction Fund to
alleviate a portion of our budget deficit
of $18,256, and to fund our ongoing
ministries. Our goal is $9,000. All the
gifts collected will stay at Trinity
to reduce our budget deficit.

Joliet West High School. Skylare received Drill
team Ribbon, Color Guard Ribbon, Best Squad drill
award and noncommission officer award.
Skylare’s future plans are the Army Reserves.
College Graduates:
Steven Buschbach gr aduated fr om Har var d
University and will be working at Charles River
Associates.
Austin Barron gr aduated fr om Beecher High
School receiving special recognition in Academic
Achievement, and All-state Academic team, and
University Excellence Award.
Austin will be attending Southern Illinois University
in Carbondale, IL
Gina Baldea gr aduated fr om Nor thwester n University with a degree in civil engineering. She received a certificate in architectural engineering and
design. Gina has accepted a position as a Project engineer (structural) in Hoffman Estates.
Shawnee Masters gr aduated fr om Oak Lawn
Community High school. Shawnee’s photography
won State and went to Nationals in 2014, Varsity
badminton team for 4 years.
Shawnee will attend Columbia College in Chicago
majoring in photography and minoring in creative
advertising and marketing communication.
