Augustine was a soldier who escorted Saint Gabriel John Tauin du-Fresse to Beijing during his missionary work. Augustine became a convert to Christianity and a priest, working in the Sichuan apostolic vicarate. 13 JUL (Saturday): SAINT HENRY, Holy Roman Emperor (972-1024) (“Good King”) Henry became Duke of Bavaria upon his father’s death, and ascended to the throne of Germany in 1002. He was later crowned King of Pavia, Italy and became Holy Roman Emperor in 1014, the last of the Saxon dynasty of emperors. Henry founded schools, quelled rebellions, protected the frontiers, worked to establish a stable peace in Europe, and to reform the Church while respecting its independence. 11 JUL (Thursday): SAINT BENEDICT, Abbot (480-543) The “Father of Western Monasticism” was educated in Rome and, repelled by the vices of the world, decided to live the life of a hermit. He organized his many followers into 12 monasteries, including Monte Cassino, which became the birthplace of Western monasticism. The rule he wrote for his monks prescribed common sense, moderate asceticism, prayer, study, work and community life under one superior. It would serve as the model of monastic life in the West for centuries to come. HOPELESS AND DESPERATE CASES Commit your concerns and intentions to St. Jude Thaddeus. Here are seven terms you may find helpful to know. Antiphon Greek, anti- “opposite” + phonē “voice.” A short text, typically from Scripture and often used as a refrain said by the congregation (e.g., during the Responsorial Psalm), though it has other uses in the liturgy. Collect One of the Introductory Rites. It is a prayer that varies depending on the liturgical day. It follows the Gloria and concludes the Introductory Rites. The former translation of Mass referred to it Mother Dolores speaking schedule -%02)& ,/*+"-*" "$ /*$ -%02)& (%&0 *#'#,0*) % ) Come Hear & Meet Mother Dolores Hart in Northern California -%0 2)& -%02 +,*+,"(%# (($+,(* ## $ *&',( -%02)& ,-!'1+ ,"*% " & ',(+ -%02)& ,(&#'#1+"-*" #!" For July 2013, the Holy Father’s prayer intentions are: General: World Youth Day That World Youth Day in Brazil may encourage all young Christians to become disciples and missionaries of the Gospel. Missionary: Asia That throughout Asia doors may be open to messengers of the Gospel. as the “opening prayer,” but its historical name is restored in the new translation. Epiclesis The third part of the Eucharistic Prayer. In it, by means of particular invocations, the Church implores the power of the Holy Spirit that the gifts offered by human hands be consecrated. It follows the Acclamation (Sanctus) and precedes the Institution Narrative and Consecration. Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion A person authorized to distribute Holy Communion, either for a particular occasion or in a more stable fashion, due to extraordinary circumstances such as lack of ordinary ministers of Holy Communion. The ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are bishops, priests, and deacons. All others are extraordinary. Note that the term “extraordinary minister of Holy Communion” is the correct term. Terms such as “extraordinary minister of the Eucharist,” “eucharistic minister,” and “special minister” are all incorrect. Ordinary of the Mass Those parts of the Mass that do not change based on the liturgical day. Also called the ordinary. Compare with Proper of the Mass. Proper of the Mass Those parts of the Mass that change based on the liturgical day. Also called the proper or the proper of the day. Compare with Ordinary of the Mass. Rubrics Instructions printed in red in a liturgical book (e.g., the Roman Missal) that direct the actions of those participating in a liturgical celebration. Rubrics are typically scattered among the text of the prayers (which are printed in black). Taken from the Jimmy Akin “Secret Information Club” www.secretinfoclub.com NATIVITY HOLY HOUR FOR PRIESTS Everyone is invited to attend our weekly holy hour for priests each Sunday evening at 07:00 PM. It includes a rosary, chaplet of Divine Mercy, a mediation, brief talk on the spiritual life, and Benediction. Especially at this time, we need to lift up our priests both here in the parish and throughout the world with our prayer. Please join us. International and Historical Prayer (The Hail, Mary) Aba Ginoong Maria, Napupuno ka ng grasya. E whakapaingia ana koe I roto i nga wahine, a e whakapaingia ana hoki a Hehu, te hua o tou kopu. E Hata Maria, e te matua wahine o te Atua, inoi koe mo matou, mo te hunga hara aianei, a, a te haroa o to matou matenga. Amene. (MAORI) (aboriginal New Zealand) The Mass in the “extraordinary form” is celebrated entirely in Latin, but one prayer is an exception. What is that prayer, and in what language is it recited? The “Kyrie”, which is recited in Greek. Young Believers FIND-A-WORD Can you locate all these words in the square full of letters?
