Bulletin 6-26-2016
Sunday, June 26, 2016 — Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time VIGIL-VOTIVE LIGHTS: Candles represent the prayerful vigilance of expectant prayers offered. Christ is the light of the world. When we light a candle, it reminds us that the effect of that prayer is ongoing. The small candles burn for 6 hours, and the large candles burn for 6 days. You will notice we now have both sizes in the back of the Church. We ask you to put the donation for either candle in the container under the smaller candles. May we continue to pray for one another, the known and the unknown needs among us. —Fr. Michael R. Schneider Nicole Fuhrer, Development Director I am so excited to update you on what has been going on over the past few months in the MFCE office. Our Golf Scramble was held on Friday, June 10. With the exception of the extreme heat that day, we had a very successful event! 120 golfers braved the elements to support our cause! This leads me to the exciting announcement of the FINAL numbers for the Bids for Kids Events. You may not be aware that the Golf Scramble was tied to the Bids for Kids event with sponsorships from many generous businesses and families. Both events went beyond our expectations this year, and we were able to raise well over our goal of $60K. I am pleased to report we blew that goal out of the water and raised a total of just under $80,000!! It is truly so humbling to know of the tremendous support our parish, our alumni, and our community have for our mission! Praise be to God! Subsequently, the MFCE was able to write a check to John Paul II School for this year’s annual disbursement of $29,249.57! I know it seems like an odd number, but we follow guidelines and bylaws in regards to the amount of interest we can disburse from our endowments in order to remain fiscally responsible and maintain the perpetuity of the funds you have entrusted with us. We also distributed $2,996.93 directly to the Faith Formation Program for their upcoming budgetary needs. Another portion of the funds raised will maintain the function of the MFCE Office. Some things we greatly need are to update our website and create professional promotional materials. The John Paul II PTO will also benefit from these events, as a portion of the proceeds will be used to fulfill their budgetary needs and support of the school as well. Another most exciting item is the establishment of a new endowment. The Henry and Carol Fergen Family Endowment was established in May to financially support John Paul II School! This is another great testament of trust, love, and support of our mission from our beloved parishioners! My heartfelt gratitude to Henry and Carol. I take my final statement to wish Fr. Mike the best as he continues his priestly journey with the Catholic community of Huron. May they be ever so blessed as we have with your guidance, leadership, care, and stewardship of your gifts. Join me in a prayer to our heavenly mother for Fr. Mike. Hail Mary full of grace….. Stewardship Reflection: In today’s second reading, St. Paul provides a wonderful one-sentence summary of Christian stewardship: “Out of love, place yourselves at one another’s service.” A Family Perspective by Bud Ozar: Today’s Gospel reminds us once we set our “hand to the plow” of parenting and marriage, “We cannot look back.” This is what commitment means: We have said YES to what was, what is, and to what can be.
