Hometown Weekly WALPOLE DAY - SATURDAY, MAY 14th 2016 Page A1 Walpole Day SATURDAY May 14, 2016 2016 Walpole Day celebration kicks off this Saturday at noon Once again, the citizens of Walpole will have an opportunity to celebrate their hometown as the annual Walpole Day celebration kicks off with a parade through downtown Walpole at 12 noon this Saturday. “The parade kicks off the festivities of the day,” said Walpole Recreation Program Coordinator Arielle Carney. She noted that over 35 organizations have already signed up to participate in the parade. The parade will start at Walpole High School, and will proceed down Common Street towards the center of town before turning onto Main Street, East Street then School Street. After the parade, Walpole Day continues at Stone Field. From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be tons of table activities, a food court, and performances by teen bands on stage. This year, there will be a new fun attraction designed for children and their families: the Kids Zone, a play area with giant inflatables, an obstacle course, and children’s games such as bubble soccer and a giant Hungry Hungry Hipposinspired game with an inflatable twist. Admission to the Kids Zone is $10. At 3 p.m., the Walpole Swimming and Diving team will host its annual Whacky Quacky Duck Race at Memorial Pond. The rubber duck race features a $1,000 grand prize, which will be given to the first place finisher. community. Carney noted that this year’s lineup of vendors is especially large. “We love being able to bring over 100 vendors together in one spot to support local business,” Carney said. She added that the Walpole Recreation Department is also looking forward to seeing how children and families enjoy the new Kid Zone inflatables. In addition to the parade and festivities, over 100 vendors will be present to engage with the Here is your complete guide for everything Walpole Day 2016. 1428 Main Street, Walpole (Bristol Square Plaza) 508.668.8008 • www.DentalAssociatesofWalpole.com ✭✭✭ KIDS NO CAVITY CLUB WINNERS ✭✭✭ MARCH APRIL Come join us at Dental Associates of Walpole and have a chance to become a member of our Kids No Cavity Club! The Recreation Department revamped the way the Grand Marshal was chosen for the 2016 Walpole Day Parade by hosting an essay contest for all Walpole School children in Grades K-12. After brainstorming new ideas to bring to this year’s event, department Staff decided this would be an exciting new route and would be an incredible experience for a young child to have. The essay topic was “What Does Walpole Mean to You?” and was meant to be short, sweet, and to the point with a 250 word limit. Essays were submitted to the Recreation Department in mid-April. All names of essays were removed for the next round when Walpole Recreation Department Staff read, scored, voted on, and determined the finalist. Susan McAdams, Grade 4 That winning essay belonged to 10 year old Day Parade, will be given a choosing. I’ve been to three different schools and when my family moved to Walpole, I knew if would be our forever home. It’s hard to make good friends when you’re always on the move but in the past three and a half years ago, I’ve met the kindest best friends anyone could ever ask for. The neighbors made baked goods and introduced themselves. In Walpole, everyone puts themselves out for others. During tough times, everyone comes together as One. Walpole is the best town I could ever ask for.
