Brands of Tomorrow 2015
Brands of Tomorrow 2015 Welcome I Jonathan Heilbron, Chairman of Walpole Brands of Tomorrow am thrilled and honoured to take on the role of Chairman of Walpole’s outstanding Brands of Tomorrow programme. It was set up by Walpole in 2007 and was previously Chaired by John Ayton MBE, who I am delighted to say is still involved. It is a fantastic programme established to educate and nurture outstanding talent. With the support of Mishcon de Reya, we have developed an engaging programme of workshops, an exceptional group of industry leading mentors and created a breeding ground of great British luxury brands. For 2015 we have increased the number of brands from eight to 12 and have linked with Walpole’s London Business School MBA elective to match a student to a brand. We have also extended the workshops to cover strategy, financial planning, distribution channels and models, branding, marketing, the customer and the complexities of managing a small, growing business. With the dedicated help of some of the UK’s most experienced luxury entrepreneurs, we hope to provide our chosen brands with the opportunity to develop and grow. In return, we want to learn and be challenged by new ideas and processes that disrupt the norm. I look forward to a fun and successful year. thewalpole.co.uk Walpole is a unique alliance of Britain’s finest luxury brands. Representing a diverse range of businesses, what unifies Walpole members is their commitment to the best – in quality, design, craftsmanship, service, tradition and innovation. Together Walpole members represent an industry predicted to be worth £12.2 billion by 2017, a leading creator of jobs in the UK and a major contributor to the British economy. Our mission: to promote, protect and develop the British luxury industry, both at home and abroad. Progr amme Criteria In order to be eligible for the programme, selected companies need to exemplify the highest standards of quality, style and craftsmanship and aspire to develop into full Walpole members. The key criteria include: • Annual turnover of more than £100,000 but no more than £4 million • An entrepreneurial management style • A clear vision of the future of the brand • Commitment to a two-way partnership in the programme, which will include active participation and regular constructive feedback with the Walpole mentors. thewalpole.co.uk The 2015 Brands 14 Bike Co. has been creating stylish, handbuilt, bespoke bicycles since 2007. The brand’s combination of progressive British design and traditional Italian craftsmanship has secured a permanent space within luxury retail ambassadors around the world. www.biondacastana.com EMILIA WICKSTEAD A T E L I E R British based and New Zealand born, Emilia Wickstead spent her formative years in Milan and gained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Fashion Design and Marketing at Central Saint Martins, London. Originally founded as an interiors label, the founders’ quest was ‘to take the beige out of interiors’ with an emphasis on quality, design and ‘Made in England’. After a decade of bland minimalism, the brand captured the Zeitgeist with its collections of Britishmade prints and products that are steeped in tradition but are bold and subversive for a truly modern statement. Today, House of Hackney has evolved into an internationally renowned British brand incorporating interiors, fashion and lifestyle divisions and has become the brand to go to for its iconic printed collections. www.houseofhackney.com John Galvin Design produces contemporary furniture and lighting products in a range of fine woods, metals and leather for luxury domestic interiors, galleries and other high-specification environments. Working from their Glasgow studio to create exquisite beautiful pieces for discerning private clients and leading global luxury brands, the company also collaborates with architects and interior design practices to produce award-winning and atmospheric environments. www.johngalvindesign.co.uk thewalpole.co.uk Marwood is a men’s luxury accessories brand, founded in 2010 by designer Becky French.
