St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church
St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church Rev. George A. Vrabel, Pastor 5500 Lear Nagle Road, 440-327-1978 From the Desk of Father George Greetings Parishioners and friends of St. Julie’s, Christmas 2014 was truly a celebration of great crowds surrounded by the beauty of song, worship and decorations. Thank you to all who have made this a most memorable feast of Christ’s birth. As a new year has dawned upon us, we continue to celebrate the Christmas Season on this Feast of The Epiphany of the Lord. Tradition tells us that the three wise men were named Caspar, Melchior, and Balthazar. Epiphany is a word meaning manifestation. It is the manifestation of the divinity of Christ to the world as symbolized in these astrologers. Epiphany is also an invitation for us to continue to recognize Christ present and to make him known to the world in which we live today. Through the telling of the beautiful narrative of the astrologers arriving in Bethlehem, Matthew has affirmed that all peoples are meant to hear and respond to the saving presence of God. Epiphany has often been referred to as the ‘Christmas of the Gentiles’ because it is a proclamation to all peoples, not just the people of Israel. We have traveled a great distance since the baby in a manger. Let us continue to proclaim the good news that Christ is born! It is my hope that the New Year will bring you much happiness, health, and blessings of God’s love. Thank you for your support and presence as we move forward into 2015. Once again, Happy New Year Everyone! Fr. George Parish News: During the Season of Lent, I plan to offer a mini-course on the Blessed Mother. Watch for details regarding registration and cost. Full participation will require a study guide. I am currently thinking that Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and possibly an afternoon session will make it more available to many ages and schedules. Today’s gospel challenges us to bring our gifts into our home and family. There we will find Jesus. Our spiritual search for God starts at home. They were overjoyed at seeing the star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother. They prostrated themselves and did him homage. Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The Ad will appear in area newspapers on January 22nd, the 42nd anniversary of the Supreme Court decisions that decriminalized abortion-on-demand throughout all 9 months of pregnancy. Since 1973, over 56 MILLION babies have been killed by abortion in the U.S. However, the annual Signature Ad does make a difference! The Ad contains educational information and the names of all the signees. Each year, people contact Right to Life after seeing the Ad. The Ad touches hearts, saves babies’ lives, and saves moms and dads from the devastation of abortion. Please add your name to the people in our County standing for life by signing up for the Ad. A donation of $5 per name is requested to cover the cost of the Ad. Additional donations can be sent to: Lorain County Right to Life, P.O. Box 207, Elyria, OH or by visiting www.loraincountyrighttolife.org.
