Fines must be paid or books returned. *We will see students during their library checkout time the week of May 13-17. *There will be no checkouts during the last week of school, but there will be scheduled skills classes. HARWOOD SPRING CONCERT—The Harwood Spring Concert will be held in the theater at the Cheney Middle School on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:00PM. West Fargo High School Technology Student Association Advisor Rich Cwikla and his students will create a DVD of the concert and you may purchase one for $10.00 on Concert night. Mr. Cwikla has done our concerts in past years and the quality has been excellent. A portion of the proceeds will support students attending a National TSA Competition. HARWOOD ELEMENTARY SPRING CONCERT ON MAY 21Where is the concert? The concert is a Cheney Middle School at 7:00 PM. Please be there at 6:45 PM. What should you wear? Wear something that looks nice on you, that you feel dressed up in. No jeans, please. Ladies, no high heels or short skirts. Do you have to come to the concert? Yes, unless you are sick or have a family emergency. All other absences are unexcused. We are looking forward to an evening of fine music! FREE CHILDCARE DURING THE CONCERT-Daycare will be provided by the Harwood PTO at the concert on May 21st at Cheney in the wrestling room. MEDICATIONS/LOST & FOUND -Please remember if your child has any medication in the office it needs to be picked up by parents by May 30 or they will be discarded. Check for your child’s missing articles in the LOST & FOUND!! Items not claimed by May 30 will be donated to good will. Our lost and found tree and tote are located by the front entrance. LUNCH ACCOUNTS-As of Monday, May 13, there are 9 days left for breakfast/lunch for the school year. Low balance letters are sent home with your child every Friday or last day of the school week. Student lunches are $1.90 and breakfasts $1.15. Please be sure that your children’s accounts are paid to the end of the year. Your child’s report card will be withheld until all obligations are paid. Money that is left in the lunch account automatically rolls over to the next school year, regardless of which school your child attends in the WF school district. You can check Parent Portal for your child’s balance or you may call the office. Thank you. You can use the PaySchools online lunch payment system for setting up a low balance e-mail reminders even if you don’t pay online. It works like this. Click on Payschools http://www.west-fargo.k12.nd.us/district/payschools/ on the WFPS website. If you don’t have an account set up, you will need your student’s ID number to do that. Once your account is set up, click on your student’s name and enter the cash amount at which you want an email notification sent to you. This is a great way to assure that your student will have money in his/her account at lunchtime. “SOAR INTO READING” will be the theme for our Summer Library program this year. Please mark your calendars for Tuesdays, 4:30 to 6:30, beginning June 4 and ending July 16. Each student will receive a special book bag, bookmark, a sucker, and a glider to “soar” with. In addition, five winners will be drawn from each visit and will receive their choice of a book or poster. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to visit our library in the Harwood School and keep your student’s reading skills soaring! This library time is provided by the Harwood American Legion, so please remember to thank a Legion member. Students are required to wear gym shoes for physical education. Chapstick and cough drops are not available through school. Please remember to send a “healthy” snack for milk/juice break each day. Mark all items with your child’s name. Backpacks with wheels will not fit in lockers! Harwood Elementary is a “PeanutFree” school Please check to see your child is up-todate with all required school immunizations Meeting Minutes Harwood Elementary PTO May 2, 2013 A meeting of the Harwood Elementary PTO was held on Thursday, May 2, 2013, in the teacher’s lounge of Harwood Elementary. Members present include: President Shelly Foley, Treasurer Beth Nelson, Michelle Dowell, Holly Magnell, Nancy Klemen, Suzi Uggerud, Doreen Klomstad, Kim Sandvig, and Jerry Barnum. Secretaries Report: The meeting minutes from April 4, 2013 were read and a motion to approve was made by Doreen Klomstad and seconded by Jerry Barnum and passed unanimously. Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was handed out with beginning balance of $4,555.25. Total Income of $1,930.00 (Herbergers coupon sales $5.00, Bingo Event $637.00, and Yearbook $1,288.00) and Total Expenses of $1,148.49 (Maple Sheyenne Luther League April Meeting - $35.00; Vision Bank - 14 Visa Gift Cards for Staff school year 2013-2014 $700.00; Harwood Community Center (Bingo Event Deposit) $275.00; Michelle Dowell – Bingo Game $13.49; Vision Bank – Teacher Appreciation week - $125.00). Ending Balance is $5,336.76. A motion was made by Holly Magnell and Seconded by Jerry Barnum and passed unanimously. Mr. Barnum’s Report: 2013-2014 school year will be a 7 day schedule (3 days of music, 3 days of art, 1 day library), PE every day. Teachers Requests: Mrs. Moen and Miss Morrison field trip to the Wahpeton Zoo. A motion was made by Suzi Uggerud and seconded by Holly Magnell and passed unanimously. Committee Reports: - Fund Raising Committee - Holly Magnell: o For 2013-2014 Fall Fundraising event, will go with Chip Shoppe. o Spring rummage sale/bake sale will be held next year during May City wide rummage sale in school parking lot. o Bingo Event went very well! Doreen will contact the Community Center for our facility refund downpayment. - Year Book Committee - Cari Lake and Angie Ose: ordered extra yearbooks. Six are available for sale at $14 each. - Teacher Appreciation Committee – Suzi Uggerud and Stephanie Newland: gearing up for Staff Appreciation next week. Will give Mr. Barnum the teacher VISA cards for 2013-2014 school year before the end of May. - Book Fair - Melissa Quern: last few days of school there will be a buy 1 book get 1 free. - Garden Committee: Nancy Klemen: will need help with keeping the pumpkin patch weed free this summer and watering. Pumpkins have been seeded and coming up. Have enough milk jugs to cover plants once they are planted. Let Nancy know when they will be planted. Nancy hopes to have the garden tilled one time before pumpkins are planted. OLD BUSINESS - Maple Sheyenne and Zion Lutheran will babysit for the Spring Concert May 21st in the wrestling room at CMS. - Pastries for Parents will be May 9 and 16. We have most kids/parents attending. If a parent cannot attend, we encourage the children to come in and have breakfast provided by the PTO! - Last Day of School: o Ice Cream Social: Beth Nelson has ordered the ice cream and will send out a Sign Up Genius for toppings. o Grills and Volunteers needed to grill burgers and hotdogs on the last day of school. o $2.85 for parents and $1.90 for a child to eat lunch on the last day of school. o T-shirts for 2013-2014 school year - Holly Magnell: Will check with Mrs. Fischer to see if the 4th grade class has time to design a t-shirt for next year. T-shirt order forms will be available on Registration Days in August. There will also be t-shirt samples available. Fall registration days are August 13 (11am-7pm) and August 14 (8am4pm). Shelly Foley will set up a Sign Up Genius for volunteers for the event. Every attempt will be made to have t-shirts ready to hand out on the first day of school Cari Lake will take the first day of school pictures with everyone in their tshirts. - Thank You Gifts – Doreen Klomstad: various gifts purchased and will be distributed on or before Awards Day. - Maple Sheyenne and Zion Lutheran Youth Groups has been contact and will let the PTO know if they will be able to babysit during the 2013-2014 PTO meetings. NEW BUSINESS - Mrs. Sandvig and Mrs. Pederson get extra recess. - PTO board accepted Stephanie Newland’s resignation as secretary. Please contact Shelly Foley if you are interested in this position. - Doreen Klomstad made a motion to elect Nancy Klemen as Vice President. Mr. Barnum seconded the motion.
