Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church 1900 Meadowbrook Road + Feasterville, PA 19053 + 215-357-1221 Forty Hours Devotion October 9th, 10th and 11th Solemn Evening Prayer with Homily Sunday, Monday & Tuesday at 7 PM Continuous Adoration Sunday through Tuesday Confessions Monday at 8 PM Hospitality to follow services on Tuesday evening Bishop Timothy C. Senior Guest Homilist Theme: God’s Abundant Mercy PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As a parish community united in Jesus and dedicated to Mary, We are called to discipleship through worship and service. Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 9, 2016 A Message From Deacon Bob The story of the ten lepers is one that we’ve all heard many times. In fact, if you come to mass on Thanksgiving morning, you’ll hear it again. What strikes me is that only one of the ten even realizes he has been made clean. No mention is made that the other nine are even aware that they were healed. I wonder...at what moment did the Samaritan leper “realize” he was made clean? That moment must have been an extraordinarily powerful moment of joy and gratitude. Some people never experience that moment of realization experienced by the grateful leper. They never realize that they have been given much by God...most especially his loving mercy. Instead they forever mourn for what they don’t have and think they need. They are consumed by disappointment and cynicism. Their self-absorption has isolated them from others. They are trapped by an overwhelming sense of fear, distrust and hopelessness. But….if we approach life with a sense of faith, there will be many such moments in our lives when we realize how much God loves us—the birth of a child, the tenderness of our spouse, the times when we are able to bring joy and hope into the life of another. Starting this evening at 7 PM and extending into Monday and Tuesday, our parish will be celebrating our annual Forty Hours Devotion. Bishop Timothy Senior will be the homilist at each of the evening liturgies. It’s a wonderful time for us to return to the Lord to thank him for his love, mercy and the blessings he has so richly showered upon us. It’s a prayerful opportunity to more fully realize that we, like the lepers of today’s Gospel, have been made “whole” by our living God. You and I have been created in God’s life; we have been sustained by God’s forgiveness; and, we have been transformed by God’s grace. Let us not hesitate to return to the Lord, to thank him for his goodness and to praise him for his infinite mercy. Our church will be open for prayer and quiet reflection before the Blessed Sacrament throughout these Forty Hours. May this holy time be a source of blessing for you and those you love. 40 Hours Devotions Sign up for Adoration When: Sun, Oct. 9th, through Tues. Oct. 11th; Preaching at 7 PM Who: Bishop Timothy Senior Theme: God’s Abundant Mercy Sunday: The Lost Sheep Monday: The Prodigal Son Followed by confessions Tuesday: Washing of Feet Invited: All parishioners and friends - come with children and grandchildren so they may learn about adoration and benediction (call by 10/6 if you wish childcare for pre-school children.) Catholic Charities Appeal Update Thank you to all of you who have made a gift to the 2016 Catholic Charities Appeal. Your support will provide for nearly 180 ministries and programs helping everything from youth initiatives to care for the elderly, from homelessness to growing the Church on college campuses. For those who have not yet contributed to the Appeal, please prayerfully consider showing your support. Taking care of those in need is one of the most important things we can do as Catholics, and it is important that together, as a Catholic community, we all take part in the 2016 Catholic Charities Appeal. To date our Parish has raised $26,633.00 or 73%, towards our goal of $36,557.00 Father Mike Deacon Bob Assumption BVM Parish Deceased List Please pray for all the deceased of our parish, especially Timothy Kuhn, Joseph Britz. 0023 Assumption BVM– page 2 THANK YOU Thank you to all the parishioners for the love I received from you. He titled the work, The Laudato Si, On Care for Our Common Home. Laudat Si is a Latin term which means, “Praise be to you, my Lord: and was taken from a canticle written by St. Francis of Assisi, the Holy Father’s patron saint. Each week, from now to May, we will highlight practical ways to live out this most Important message of Pope Francis. As we reflect on the Gospel for the Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time, let us consider the question: “How do I thank God for the gifts of creation?” Nazareth Academy High School Fall Open House Saturday, October 15, 2016 -9 AM—12 Noon NEWS Youth in Action Youth in Action blends works of mercy with fun.
