80+ YEAR CLUB
We wish a happy birthday to the members of the 80+ Year Club for August.
As we enter our summer season of worship, ministry and mission outreach - a few
“quick thoughts” about sharing faith, belonging to a church, and inviting and
bringing someone to worship with you OR share a ministry project with you:
5 questions for folks looking for a church:
1. Do I fit here?
2. Does anybody want to know me?
3. Am I needed?
4. What is the advantage to joining?
5 answers for those folks looking for a church:
1. Membership identifies a person as a believer (Eph. 2:19: Romans 12:5)
2. Membership provides a spiritual family to support and encourage a person in their walk of faith. (Gal. 1-2: Heb. 10:24-25)
3. Membership gives a person a place to discover their gifts and use them
for ministry. (1 Corinthians 12: 4-27)
4. Membership places a person within the fellowship, protection and
leadership of godly leaders and people. (Heb. 13: 17: Acts 20: 28-29)
5. Membership gives a person the accountability and responsibility needed to grow in the faith. (Eph. 5: 21)

Personalizing the benefits of belonging and participating in the life of a congregation:
1. Worship helps you focus on God.
2. Fellowship helps you face life’s problems.
3. Discipleship helps you fortify your faith.
4. Ministry helps you develop your talents and gifts.
5. Evangelism helps you reach out to others in the name of Christ.
The church must always be growing larger and smaller at the same time...
Growing larger for us as we continue to involve others to worship with us and
share the mission of Jesus Christ with us; and growing smaller for us as we find ourselves participating in some small group (be it choir, Bible study, the Lutheran
Habitat House, youth group, Community Kitchen, etc.) so that we share some specific area of ministry with church friends and acquaintances.
Hey, it is summertime. And it may be the perfect time to bring someone or invite
someone to join you for worship or for a church ministry outreach or project.
After all, we are Zion Lutheran - “Connecting people to the life of faith in the
presence of God!”
God’s summer peace and power.

Many thanks for your donations for the health kits. We now have enough nail clippers, but we still need new hand towels and wash cloths, tooth brushes, toothpaste (6
oz or larger), combs, bath size bars of soap and band-aids (either 1/2” or 3/4” width).
Please place your donations in the plastic box in the fellowship hall marked “Health

Food For The Poor is an interdenominational Christian ministry created to
help the poorest of the poor in the
Caribbean and Latin America. In addition to serving the suffering and needy,
Food For The Poor’s ministry creates an
important spiritual link between the
church of the First World and the church
of the Third World.
Food For The Poor’s approach to
helping the poor is unusual among charities and relief organizations. In addition
to general contributions, donors also
have the opportunity to sponsor specific
projects, ranging from building houses
and schools, to finding fishing cooperatives and feeding centers, to drilling
wells for destitute villages in need of
water. The driving force behind the ministry lies in the challenge presented in
Matt. 25:31-46 and the fervent belief in
serving our poor sisters and brothers, we
serve Jesus Christ.
We will hear more about Food For
The Poor as Pastor Ron Dingle joins us
on August 12 and 13 here at Zion
Lutheran Church.
NEW HYMNAL INFORMATION
Worship is at the heart of our life as the people of God. God’s wonderful gifts of
word and sacrament are signs that we live in God’s amazing grace for the whole
church and the whole world.
Evangelical Lutheran Worship has been prepared by the whole church, for the
whole church. It has been prepared by the whole church through a five-year
Renewing Worship process that was built from the beginning to hear from people
and congregations across the church how the future of Lutheran worship might best
unfold.
It was also built for the whole church. The Lutheran church in North America and
the Caribbean is wonderfully rich with history and heritage, but also gloriously varied
in its worship. Evangelical Lutheran Worship celebrates both our inheritance and our
future in worship. Much that we know and love will continue in this new resource.
Newer ideas, reviewed by the whole church, will bring fresh riches to us all.
This is an exciting time with unimagined possibilities for our congregation.
When we come together to hear God’s word, to share the sacraments, to confess our
sins in the assurance of forgiveness, and to worship God with joy and thanksgiving,
we are strengthened and blessed.
In the name of Christ, Pastor Ken Scheck II
Dear Zion,
I would just like to thank everyone who
made it possible for me to be able to go to San
Antonio. It was one of the funnest times I have
had in my life. I will always remember this.
Pastor and I had a blast. And again, I really
appreciate all of the help the church has done
to help me go. Thank you!
