Throughout this guide you will find lots of exciting activities to keep you and your family entertained during the holidays – come rain or shine! With a huge variety of events taking place all over the borough, there is definitely something for everyone. We hope you find this guide useful and have a fantastic summer! THE BIG FRIENDLY READ The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read six books during the long summer holiday. There is a different theme each year and this year it’s inspired by the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl. Children can read whatever they like – fact books, joke books, picture books, audio books – just as long as they are borrowed from the library. Every time children finish a book they get special collectors cards put in their collectors wallet and there’s a certificate and medal for everyone who finishes. The Summer Reading Challenge is open to all school children and is designed for all reading abilities. This year we have a reading activity to run alongside the Summer Reading Challenge for pre-schoolers. For more information and to take part, please visit your local library. 2016 SUMMER EVENTS 3 SUMMER EVENTS 2016 Pott e Dance lling Storyte Junk Orchestra Underwater photography ry Cardbo ard Box Citi es PlaY A festival of the imagination For children and families Thursday 21 - Sunday 24 July We are putting the fun into Fareham this Summer... and the fun starts here at the Ashcroft.
