YEAR OF FAITH RON CAL LI A berdeen C S S atholic chool March, 2013 ystem Home of the Cavaliers 1400 N DAKOTA STREET, ABERDEEN, SD 57401 STAY CONNECTED !!! Please keep us updated when you change phone number, address and email. We use School Reach for many announcements and if we don’t have your information (or your correct information) you will miss out on important announcements! PLEASE NOTE the Home and School Game Night/Reading Academy set for March 6th has been cancelled. SCHEDULE CHANGE There will be an 11am dismissal Thursday, March 7 for K-12 grade. No lunch will be served and there will be no OST that day. . We wish the Lady Cavs well at the State Tournament. WWW.ABERDEENRONCALLI.ORG Greeting from Interim ACSS President Spring is just around the corner and with it comes the hope of warmer temperatures, greener grass and the return of life to the cold, dormant world. Spring also means the celebration of Easter, Roncalli Ball, anticipation of graduation and planning for the next school year. Looking to the future, it is easy to forget we need to be present in each and every moment we are given today. In the month since it was announced that I would be serving as the Aberdeen Catholic School System interim president, I have been given the opportunity to spend time assessing the current needs, hopes and dreams that many of you have. Everyone has been very welcoming, helpful and supportive. For that, I am extremely grateful. There is so much enthusiasm for what’s happening right now in the Roncalli schools and even more for what can happen. Enrollment continues to look strong for next year, at all levels. The volunteer network is incredible! Board committees are being reorganized to help update strategic plans and goals. We continue to examine processes and procedures to create efficiency without compromising the teaching, learning and service that is integral to Roncalli. Analysis can be complicated only because organizations are made up of people, each with unique, God-given talents. That is also what makes the work challenging, fun and rewarding. Sometimes, analysis shows change is needed. Change can be stressful, but change helps us grow and become even better than we ever imagined possible. I pray that this spring, and your Lenten journey, is filled with moments to learn, serve and walk in a renewed faith. JoEllen Lindner ASCC Interim President FAITH IN ACTION Central Office: (605) 226-2100 High School Office: (605) 225-7440 Elementary School: (605) 229-4100 Primary School: (605) 225-3460 During this Lenten season the students in the ACSS will be taking part in many Acts of Charity and Prayer opportunities. The 4th graders will be packing meals for Kids Against Hunger on March 12th from 12:30-2:30 for their Lenten service project. On two Friday’s in March the Elementary students will have Confession and conduct the Stations of the Cross. March 1 and March 22 Confessions will be offered from 9:00-11:00am and the Stations will be prayed at 12:10pm. Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness. – Blessed Mother Teresa Instilling Catholic values and promoting academic excellence by nurturing mind, body and soul ABERDEEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM PAGE 2 FINANCIAL AID ACSS is now taking Financial Aid Applications for the 20132014 school year. All forms must be completed and submitted BY MARCH 22, 2013. Applications are to be completed online at https:// online.factsmgt.com/ signin/413ND. Additional Scholarship forms and the work grant applications can be found on our web page. Please contact Vickie Haiar at 226-2100 or Vickie.haiar@aberdeenroncalli. org if you have any questions or need further information. SHADOW DAY As we've noted before, we believe parents are our best recruiters because other parents want to hear from a satisfied customer. Our plan is to hold a Shadow Day on April 22, when the public schools are scheduled not to be in session. On that day, prospective students can spend part or all of the school day shadowing a Roncalli student to get a sense of what a Roncalli day is like. Please encourage your friends to try us out on that day. We can schedule shadowing appointments on just about any day, and Lent may be an especially appropriate time to invite a family to check us out. Encourage a family to visit school or have their child shadow on a Mass day or a day with Stations of the Cross. Faith is at the heart of everything we do, and prospective parents will appreciate the faithfulness of our students and their involvement in the liturgy and devotions. RECYCLE YOUR SPRAY PAINT…... Mrs. Patty Martin, Science and Religion teacher at the Jr./Sr. High School, is looking for ‘almost’ used up spray paint cans. She will be using them in an experiment with her Earth Science students near the end of the school year. You can drop the cans off at any of the school locations. The more colors they can gather the better. SALAD LUNCHEON The Auxiliary Salad Luncheon will take place Saturday March 2nd at RHS cafeteria at 11:30. The cost is $10. The theme this year is “hattitude.” You are encouraged to wear your favorite hat. Any Mom of a 7th or 8th grader that would be willing to help on that day, please contact Peggy Cox at 225-7440. This is an annual fundraising event for the school. BE A LIFE SAVER!! Wednesday, March 27 At the Annual Roncalli Blood Drive. The drive will run from 1:306:00pm at the RHS. High School is a great time to start a habit of donating. In the spirit of sacrifice and giving, Lent is a perfect time to donate. Make your appointment by contacting Cherie Heinz at 225-7440 or go to the website below and register online anytime. They will also take walk-in donors. http://www.bloodhero.com/index.cfm? group=op&step=2&opid=498460 Home & School The Sock Hop was a huge success again this year. We collected 320 non-perishable items for Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s food pantry. Thank you to all students and parents for joining us for the evening. We hope to see you at our next meeting on Wed., April 3, at 6:30pm.
