KNIT-GRAFFITI To mark their 100th anniversary, the Cercle de Fermières of Ayer's Cliff knitted, stitch by stitch, colorful bands to adorn the Municipality’s benches located near the library in the village center, also called knit graffiti as well as urban art. Get up close and appreciate what the nimble fingers of the ladies have made to brighten our village center! The Cercle de Fermières du Québec are celebrating their 100th anniversary and are more present than ever. Their rich history was built through constant evolution which has never denied the past, blending together openness and sound values. After nearly 100 years of existence, the CFQ always aim for sincerity by maintaining values and the family and social commitment. The word "Fermières" reflects the roots of the largest women's association in the province. However, nowadays, more than 98% of the approximately 34,000 members do not live on farms. These modern ladies are active and involved in their community. However, they remain the guardians of the culinary and craft heritage they generously share through their cookbooks Qu’est-ce qu’on mange?, volumes of crafts, youth crafts program, basic and development courses, provincial competitions, etc. Distributing thousands of objects made with their nimble fingers in hospitals and among the less fortunate, the CFQ also raise funds for worthy causes, including among others, the Mira Foundation. Crafts have always held a special place in the hearts of the members and their activities. The provincial craft contest also arouses enthusiasm and this, since their very beginning. With CFQ our craft heritage was not only preserved and transmitted, but also improved. Born in a time when everything was needed to be done for the status of women, the CFQ have gradually made their voices heard publicly on various social issues affecting women and families: economic value of women's work in the home, education, status of women, pay equity, environment, etc. CFQ members circulate information amongst themselves and defend the rights of women and families in the public arena, adopting resolutions of all sorts that are then sent to the various levels of government. In addition, their volunteering helps out everywhere in the community, alleviating needs efficiently and often quietly.
