Since Labor Day weekend is coming up, let me take this opportunity to say to you:

Just to name way more than a few--because I love those commercials and they crack me up.
All joking aside, though, those commercials actually remind me that my life is what it is
because of so many, many people who do countless, countless things day in and day out. I
am grateful for their labor, and I am grateful for your labor. Past, Present, and Future,
whatever you’ve done, are doing, or are going to do. Whether you did it for 4 months and
that’s all you could take, or you’ve been doing it what feels like your whole life.
This Labor Day, let’s be thankful.
And let’s be joyful too, with a touch of humor (or maybe a lot more than a touch) directed at all
the strange things we do in this life.
But for some, the burdens aren’t funny; they are hard. The work you do is hard, and you don’t
feel appreciated enough. Thank you for your dedication to the tough things.
As a person of faith, all of this, of course, reminds me of Jesus… and especially those who
continue to walk down tough roads, filled with hard labor. Jesus did this, too, and He knows
that your life reflects His more than most. Your life reflects His more than most. And God
knows this.
So do the rest of us.
So this Labor Day, we honor those who work hard, those who labor, those who are recognized,
those who are under-appreciated, those who provide us with smiles, with comfort, with ease,
with life.

Ferguson Shooting Case Still Unresolved - We need, at minimum, to
understand what it's like to live in a society where discrimination on the basis of
race is a frequent reality -- whether or not it was a determining factor in this
particular shooting.
Making prayer a priority in our lives was one of the many goals we had as we
studied Bill Hybel’s book, Too Busy Not to Pray. Did you participate? We
are finishing up the final week of our first online Bible study. You can still join
us by signing up at www.ReadySetScripture.com Past lessons are also
posted on this website.
How does an online Bible study work? Receive a daily email summarizing
the daily reading from the book we are studying. Participate with or without
the book, depending on how much of a time commitment you are able to
make. Our next study will begin in mid-September and will encourage us to
think like God thinks. Based on Philippians 4:8, we will learn how to think
about whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and
praiseworthy. Sign up now so you won’t miss a day.

Wellness Coaching is a relationship between an individual and a
trained coach who assists you in clarifying values, setting goals, and
changing behaviors. It is specifically designed to help you decrease
unhealthy behaviors and increase more helpful behaviors in the physical,
emotional, spiritual, or social aspects of life. Wellness coaching is timelimited and is NOT pastoral counseling or psychotherapy.
Topics are as varied as the person seeking coaching, but
issues commonly addressed by wellness coaches include:

Managing stress
Balancing work/life
Creating exercise and healthy eating plans
Developing meaningful connections with others
Developing meaningful spiritual practices

McMurry University Recruiter to Visit St. Mark’s
During worship on Saturday, September 6th, and Sunday, September 7th, a representative from
McMurry University – a United Methodist University in Abilene, TX – will be with us at the St.
Mark’s Love Road campus. She will share a “McMurry University” moment during worship,
and be available to talk to High School Junior and Seniors, their families, and anyone else
interested throughout Sunday morning. Our Communion Rail Offering that week will go to a
special scholarship fund to help students from the New Mexico Conference of the United
Methodist Church (which includes us) attend McMurry.
