2 WORK IN THE FIELD
PROGRAMS
One of our main priorities is the
long term sustainability of every
project we do. In 2013, we deepened
our investment in programs that
promote community responsibility
for both the mechanical and
financial maintenance of each water
point. By emphasizing community
ownership over water projects,
we ensure that the impact of each
water point is maximized.
In addition, we place a major
emphasis on full WaSH (water,
sanitation, and hygiene)
programming which reduces reduce
dramatically dramatically - leaving
communities healthier, and more
productive.

2 WORK IN THE FIELD
HAITI
PROJECT:
While visiting Dessables Dortel
community in Haiti, our team joined
a local woman, Elisil, on her twohour long journey to fetch water
for her family. We struggled up
a mountain, and when we finally
reached the water source at the top,
Elisil filled her jerry can up to the
brim, and headed back down to her
home. As we watched this seventyyear-old woman carry a 40 lb jerry
can, we tried to lift this burden
from her, but she refused. She
insisted that we carry it together.
We carried the water, side by side,
and when we reached the foot of
the mountain Elisil kissed us on the
cheek and said “toi et moi,” which is
French for “you and me.”
Elisil knew that together we could
bring clean water and a brighter
future to her community. She knew
that real change is not one sided,
but a partnership -- and together,
we can do so much more than we
ever could do alone.

2 WORK IN THE FIELD
RWANDA
PROJECT:
Meet Seamette, Ngurukizi’s local
pump caretaker. He works every
day to make sure this Rwandan
community never has to go without
clean water again.
At 6 am each morning, Seamette
starts his pump-watching duties,
ensuring the pump is properly used
and that a small fee for each jerry
can filled is collected. This fee pays
both for Seamette’s small salary
and prepares the community for
any major repairs or upkeep for the
pump.
It’s an understatement to say that
Seamatte takes his job seriously.
He stays by the well site from 6
am until 10 pm—taking breaks
between water users in a makeshift
shelter in a nearby bush. The well is
always busy, providing water for not
only the community of Ngurukizi,
but to many of the surrounding
communities as well. Seamatte
told our team on the ground how
excited his community is about the
water project. People gladly pay
the nominal water fee, grateful for
the vast improvement this water
solution brings.
When communities take ownership
over the projects like the Ngurukizi
community has done, long term
sustainability follows, giving
communities access to clean water
for life.

NIGHT OF GENEROSITY
Each year, Generosity.org creates a
space where others can be invited
into our story. An opportunity to
use our collective influence to give
back – it’s our biggest night of the
year, and we call it the Night of
Generosity.
On September 6th, we welcomed
over 500 supporters to a journey
through the heart of Uganda. In one
unforgettable night at the iconic
Beverly Hills Hotel, our supporters
gave over $400,000 to bring clean
water to 22,000 people.

3 GIVING
THE HOANG FAMILY
When the Hoang family adopted
their two daughters, Elsa and Lydia
from Ethiopia, they were making
a long-term commitment to the
development of this beautiful
country. For Christmas, the family
of 8 decided that it wasn’t a time
to receive, but a time to celebrate
all they’ve been given. Instead of
receiving gifts, the family of 8 gave
an entire well to a community in
Ethiopia, giving 500 people the
opportunity to grow, thrive, and
flourish.

3 GIVING
UNIVERSITY OF AZ
When University of Arizona student
Brooke Beard learned about the
water crisis, she knew she had to
take action. She rallied together her
sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and
spent an entire semester planning
the Hoops for Hope basketball
tournament – an event that
would engage the entire student
community at her university in the
fight to end the clean water crisis.
Together, they raised $15,000,
inspiring the community to think
globally and live generously.

3 GIVING
THE CITY CHURCH
In May, our team headed to
Seattle to represent Generosity.
org at The City Church’s Nights
of Generosity. We were blown
away by the incredible support of
this community. In just one night
Pastor Judah Smith and his church
gave $50,000 to water projects –
and the support didn’t end there!
Community members started their
own fundraisers, held screenings of
La Source, and just kept on giving.

3 GIVING
LA SOURCE
In late 2012, we launched the La
Source Social Action campaign,
which told the story of Josue
Lajenesse, a Haitian born Princeton
janitor and his journey to bring
clean water to his home community
in Haiti. We partnered with
Transcendental Media, and shared
his story across the world through
hundreds of film festivals and
screenings at schools, churches, and
homes.
Josue’s story captivated the
hearts of thousands, and they
rallied together to raise more than
$130,000 to bring clean water to 20
communities in Haiti.

3 GIVING
VOLUNTEERS
Whether it’s folding 3000 paper
cranes, packing tax receipts, or
performing at an event, nothing
we do would be possible without
our army of volunteers. This year,
our volunteers gave more than
1000 hours of their time – fueling
our mission to end the clean water
crisis.
