SMASHED: Former Mopani District Municipality Exco member and current Ba Phalaborwa ANC Sub Regional Deputy Secretary, Aubrey Ngobeni’s white Mercedes Benz was smashed at Makhushane on
Sunday.
Mob stones luxury car
A Councillor’s luxury German car was
stoned by angry residents of Makhushane
village in Phalaborwa.
Former Mopani District Municipality
Exco member and current Ba Phalaborwa
ANC Sub Regional Deputy Secretary, Aubrey
Ngobeni’s white Benz was stoned by a group
of Makhushane community members on
Sunday afternoon.
A reliable source informed Phalaborwa
Herald that Ngobeni’s car was parked outside
Makhushane Tribal Office’s yard when a mob
believed to be coming from Mapikiri section,
NT T TOY
YOTA
A PHALA
ABORW
WA
began blocking the way for residents from
other villages in a bid to stop them from
attending a mass meeting of electing a new
committee for the controversial Makhushane
Unemployment Forum.
It is alleged that a fight ensued between
the community members and as a result,
eventually Ngobeni’s car windscreen was
smashed.
The unemployment Forum which is led
by Jafta Malesa and John Malesa who are
both Ngobeni’s close allies are regarded as
counter revolutionary by supporters of Chief
Makatikele.
The source went further to say that
Ngobeni’s vehicle was intentionally targeted
by the mob as he was attending the meeting
in his capacity as a resident not as a leader of
any structure in the community.
Jafta Malesa Unemployment Forum
secretary said they are still in shock about
the incident. ‘We united with Ba Phalaborwa
in 2014 to form one structure to engage on
unemployment issues but to our surprise
another forum was formed and they call
themselves Unemployment Development
Forum and they cause confusion,’ said
Malesa. Luka Malatji, Chief’s Spokesperson
said that Ngobeni is disrespectful and he
used vulgar language at the Chief on Sunday.
‘Ngobeni sent his group to start throwing
stones at the tribal offices damaging the
property and the group that was inside
responded by throwing stones as well.
Ngobeni will be taught a lesson and he will
learn it the hard way if he wants to mess with
Ba Phalaborwa. He wants power because he
promised his own people employment,’ said
Malatji.

Rook laat rowers spaander
saakbeskadiging is oopgemaak.

LULEKANI CLINIC: The health centre has stopped operaƟng for 24 hours few weeks ago and residents are not happy.
Disatisfaction about clinic hours
Residents of Lulekani are unhappy about the Clinic
which is no longer operating 24 hours.
The clinic stopped operating 24 hours few weeks ago.
The residents said they are affected adversely as it only
operates during the day.
In the night the ambulance take ages to get to patient’s
place.
A resident, Maria Mashava said they do not have
transport to travel to the hospital at night.
‘I’m pregnant and I’m scared, what if I give birth at
home or lose my baby while waiting for an ambulance. It’s
really not fair that
the clinic does not
operate at night,’
said Mashava.
Another resident,
Simon Nkwashu
expressed her
concern about the
poor service at the
clinic.
‘The clinic has
shortage of staff, we
sit there the whole
day and sometimes
we end up not being
helped, it is really
a challenge,’ said
Nkwashu.
According
to department
spokesperson Macks
Lesufi, the Lulekani
clinic is classified
under call system,
meaning that people
can be assisted
on emergency
when they call.
‘We evaluated the area and we found that less people
consult at night, we also don’t have enough staff,’ said
Lesufi.
A nurse at the clinic who spoke to Phalaborwa
Herald on condition of anonymity said night shift was
really strenuous.
‘You would find only two nurses working during the
night and it was difficult because we have to assist on
the maternity ward and casualty, pregnant woman take
up much time so we end up focusing more on them and
neglecting other patients,’ said anonymous.

Kerke
opnuut
susters
Soos een man het die broeders van
die Gereformeerde Kerke van Suid
Afrika (GKSA) hulle hande opgesteek vir
samewerking by die GKSA se algemene
sinode in Potchefstroom.
Alhoewel susters kerke, vir die die laaste
150 jaar het die Gereformeerde Kerk en die
NG Kerk nie altyd noodwendig om dieselfde
vuur gesit het nie.
Dit is nou alles geskiedenis, met die
goedkeuring van ‘n memorandum van
samewerking tussen die NG Kerk en
die GKSA, ‘n memorandum wat reeds
in Augustus 2014 deur die NG Kerk se
moderatuur goedgekeur is.
Hervormde Kerk gesluit is.
onderling gedoop word, lidmate kan by
albei kerke nagmaal gebruik, en leraars kan
selfs van mekaar se kansels af preek asook
gesamtelike dienste hou.
eenheid.
Ds Isak de Villiers van die Greforemeerde
kerk Phalaborwa het gesê dat die positiewe
is, dat daar reeds ’n geruime tyd goeie
samewerking was tussen die NG – en
Gereformeerde Kerk in Phalaborwa.
kerkwees.
Ds de Villiers het ook bygevoeg dat:
“Hoewel ons nog met verskille tussen ons
kerkverbande worstel, werk ons biddend
daaraan om tot volle eenheid te kom.”

NEWS
HEAR US OUT: The community of Majeje village embarked on a march staƟng their grievances last Thursday.
Demands spill over
Members of the community of Majeje Village outside
Phalaborwa marched to Majeje Tribal Authority in their
small numbers on Thursday.
The residents demand that the sale of water at the
tribal office be stopped with immediate effect and people
should get free water.
The community members mentioned that the money
used to drill the borehole in the office belongs to the
community and it makes no sense that they are made to
buy their own water.
The second issue that the residents demand is to know
who donated the statue that is supposed to be erected at
the tribal office and how much it costs.
They further demanded that the R20 per family
collected for the statue is stopped as it no longer serves
any purpose.
The community also demands that the money charged
for obtaining prove of residence should come to an end
because the money they paid for residential sites proof
that they are residents and therefore they do not see a
need to pay a fee for a residential letter.

The members of the community further demand that
there be transparency and accountability in the financial
administration of the community.
They demand a written financial statement of all the
money collected from the sale of sites near Humulani
and near Lulekani stadium, money for hunting, farm
rentals and all other money collected for the community.
The chairperson of Majeje Community Development
Trust Eddie Maake, said the community members are
concerned about the money that is not banked in the
community trust account but in the lawyers and private
account. ‘The community members demands that all this
money be transferred into the community trust where
the government can exercise an oversight on behalf of
the community,’ said Maake.
Other residents who spoke to Phalaborwa Herald
said the mine donated water but instead the people at
Majeje tribal sell the water to the people. ‘We walk long
distances to fetch water and it’s not safe,’ said Ngobeni.
Nicky Mabobo of Majeje Tribal Authority accepted the
memorandum which demands a response within 14 days.

Department of Trade and Industry (the
DTI) warns online gambling operators that
they could be liable to a fine of up to R10
million or spend 10 years in jail.
According to the DTI spokesperson,
Sidwell Medupe, the department has noted
with concern media reports suggesting that
there may be operators that are offering
online gambling in the country, which is
illegal.
“Online gambling, or what others refer
to as remote gambling, is not allowed in
South Africa, and the National Gambling
Board together with other law enforcement
agencies will act on this illegal activity with
immediate effect,” said Medupi.
The dti has made it publicly clear
that there is no intention on the part of
government to propose the legalisation of
online gambling in South Africa.
He added that there are a number of social
ills associated with gambling, especially
online gambling which occurs in unregulated
and unsupervised locations.
Other forms of gambling that are allowed
in South Africa take place under strict
supervision in locations that are designated
for such activities.
“Online gambling is not desirable and the
DTI has raised its objection to the proposal
by the opposition political parties to legalise
online gambling.
In our view no amount of control will
adequately curb the harm that may be caused
to South African citizens by online gambling,
hence we reiterate that it must remain a
banned activity,” he stressed.
Members of the public are urged to report
online gambling and any other form of illegal
gambling activities to the police on 08600
10111.
For any further information on gambling

GRADE EIGHT: Some of the grade 8 learners at Nkateko High School could not hide their excitement
of going to high school, they were all smiley last Wednesday. from leŌ is: Tshepo Chauke, Rhandzu
Mabunda, ResoluƟon Makhubele, Joseph Motseleng and Mashudu Mnisi.
Scholars ready for 2015
Schools across the country opened their
doors for 2015 academic year last Wednesday
after a long summer holiday. There were lots
more of smiley faces than teary faces.
Children will be moving up a grade, some
starting school for the first time, so the day
was exciting and nerve wrecking for some
children.
Most learners received their package of
learning materials including books.
Some of the learners were nervous on the
first day of school because of all the new
things; new teachers, new friends, and maybe
even a new school. Luckily, these ‘new’
worries only stick around for a little while.
Most parents expressed anxiety when taking
their children to school. Phalaborwa Herald
interviewed few learners on the first day of
school. The learners were looking beautiful
and clean in their new smart uniform.
Kuhlula Mbhungele showed excitement as
he was preparing for his first day of school.
‘I’m happy that I’m going to start school, I
can’t wait to meet my teachers and eat my
lunch,’said Mbhungele.
Sizwe and Nhluvuko Ngwenya are siblings
and they were looking forward to a brighter
day. ‘I’m glad I will be attending school with
my brother, he will look after me and nobody
will bully me at school,’ said Ngwenya.
EXCITED: Kuhlula Mbhungele a grade R learner
at Francis English Medium School was looking
foward to the first day of school on January 14.
NEW SCHOOL: Sizwe and Nhluvuko Ngwenya
geƫng ready for their first day at a new school
last Wednesday.

The Ba-Phalaborwa LFA, a subsidiary
of the South African Football Association
(SAFA) in correlation with the Sefapane
Soccer Foundation and Teachers for Africa
launched a 5 week coaching development
and first aid campaign in the Ba-Phalaborwa
district last week.
The campaign will bring students in
the sporting field from the Netherlands to
Phalaborwa to rub off some of their skills
and develop our local football coaches.
The first group of 5 students will focus on
the Namakgale- , Lulekani- and Selwane
streams.
The students will circulate to various
football pitches in the area and observe,
assess and train our local coaches.
The form of the training will not only be
classroom theory but hands-on practical
experience in the field.
This comes at the right time as SAFA
legislation will soon implement a law that
prohibits individuals from coaching youth
soccer without the proper certification.
The aim of the campaign is to not only
have a once-off 5 week session, but to
continuously have students from the
Netherlands rotating to South Africa to keep
our coaches on their toes with new tactics
and coaching skills.

SPORT

ANNOUNCEMENT: Ndavhe Ramakuela (Director Community Development), Cllr Johanna Kaka (MMC for Culture, Sport, RecreaƟon and Special Focus), ExecuƟve Mayor, Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng and
Barend van Graan (CEO Blue Bulls Company) during the media briefing.
Bulls to take on the Cheetahs in Polokwane
Rugby fans are once again in for a treat,
as the Vodacom Bulls today announced that
they will be taking on the Toyota Cheetahs
in a Vodacom Super Rugby warmup match,
hosted by the Polokwane Municipality, at the
Peter Mokaba Stadium.
With kick off set for 17:00 on January
24, and a host of activities that will preceed, the scene will be poised for an epic
encounter between these two rugby giants.
Both teams will be looking to assert a bit of
early dominance over their rivals, and will
no doubt be looking to send a positive preseason message to their fans.
The Vodacom Bulls will take to the
impressive 45 000-seater World Cup
stadium for the fourth consecutive year.
This fixture forms part of a partnership
between the Blue Bulls Company (BBCo) and
the Polokwane Municipality which is aimed
at generating funds for tertiary students in
the Province.
Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls
Company, said that the Polokwane fixture
has fast become one of the highlights of their
pre-season preparations:
“It’s always a real pleasure for our team to
play in Polokwane.
The professionalism shown by the
organsing committee is always of the highest
standard, and reception we recieve from
the fans is also something that our players
and management really look forward to. It’s
also a great spectacle for all the rugby fans
in Polokwane, as most of them are not able
to travel to Pretoria or Bloemfontein for
Vodacom Super Rugby games.
But most importantly, we are honoured
that by participating in this match, we can
assist in enabling young learners to further
their education.”
Polokwane Executive Mayor, Cllr Thembi
Nkadimeng said besides entertainment for
the fans, “the game presents a welcome
opportunity for the municipality to raise
funds for tertiary students who will in future
assist it in realising the 2030 Smart City
Vision.
Our appreciation goes to the Blue Bulls
Company for their continued partnership on
this journey”.
Tickets are on sale at the stadium and at
Computicket outlets countrywide, by booking
