PASTOR’S CORNER
Greetings,
Holy Trinity Sunday, Father,
Son and Holy Spirit! We have a
Trinity of love. God is love…
pure love…..sacred love. God
created the world, all the birds
of the air, the fish in the sea
Fr. John Henderson
and every living creature. God
created man and woman and gave them each
other to treasure. Everything God created God
saw as good and love abounds. Because of sin
and because God’s love is stronger, God the Father sends God’s only Son to show us the way
back to love. Jesus’ love is so powerful that he
sacrificed himself for you and me, on the cross.
He died for love. After the Resurrection and Ascension Jesus did not leave us orphan but the
sacred love between Father and Son gave us a
gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of love guides
us each day and fills us with the grace to live the
message of love. The spirit helps us to embrace
the truth.
Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit! One
God, three persons, a profound unity! We have a
community. I am not alone but a part of the
unity. I have you and you have me and the trinity is a part of our life. We share the love of Father, Son and Holy Spirit in our family, in our
workplace, with our friends and with those difficult people in our lives. As a community we
form CHURCH! Each unique member as part of
the one body! One body who welcomes, who
feeds the hungry, who lays hands upon the sick,
who forgives! The Trinity helps us realize that
the church is not a building but rather a people
of faith.
“We have come to know and to believe in the
love God has for us. God is love, and whoever
remains in love remains in God and God in
him.” (1 John 4:16)

YOUTH MINISTRY
Saint Anthony’s Life
Teen is a ministry open
to all high school students. We meet Sundays
at 5:00, starting with
dinner, and
ending at 6:45 before
Mass. Newcomers and
visitors are always welcome—just walk in the
door, write down a few
pieces of information, and join the celebration!
PARISH SCHOOL
It was a busy yet rather quiet week with our middle school
students on their traveling study programs. Eighth grade
enjoyed an amazing, fun and educational week in Washington, DC; 7th grade learned a great deal about our northern
neighbors in Vancouver, BC and 6th grade hiked, canoed
and enjoyed many other outdoor adventures at Camp
Hamilton in Washington State. Fr. John and Principal
Nichols joined the students early Wednesday morning with
Fr. John saying mass and returning to Tigard the same
day.
This week is Family Night!
Potluck dinner and
Speaker Jessica Cox
The whole family is invited to join us for a Potluck and
hear the powerful message of Jessica Cox! We’d love to
see all of you there at 5:00 PM!
Guitarist Michael John Poirier performed and spoke to
students about his family, angels, and God’s love for each
one of us. A true blessing to have him talk with the students about his experiences and his immense love and devotion to God.
Next week:
Graduation and Celebration
Our year at Life Teen is coming to a close—join us
for our last evening as we celebrate our Graduates,
our Confirmandi, and our Core Team, as well as all
of you who have made this such a joyful year to be
together!
Summer Life Nights
God loves you all year long, and so do we! Whenever you’re in town, please join us 2nd and last
Sundays for summer fun, starting June 12!
On Wednesday, Officer Nunn continued his talks with
fourth grade students concerning the “G.R.E.A.T.” Program for elementary students. The program is designed to
help students make great choices, communicate messages
clearly, control anger, respect others and be great citizens.
Summer Mission Trip
Our week-long summer Mission to Reno, NV
is an experience you’ll never forget, leaving
July 3rd and returning July 10, at $480/person. Sign-ups are available now!

Minutes of Life, Justice & Peace Meeting for May 12, 2016
Community Alliance of Tenants Workshop: The event took place Saturday, April 30 in St. Francis
Hall. We agreed to make this an annual event. About 20 people attended. One tenant was able to get help
with a mold issue because of the workshop.
Interfaith Power & Light Postcards: Half sheets asking for senators to back the Green Climate fund
were provided on a table in the side hall across from the nursery. A handful of parishioners participated
Next year we plan to provide postcards and advertise the drive in conjunction with Earth Day in the
spring.
2016 Offering of Letters: A few letters were written during the first two weekends. Several parishioners have taken the information home and will return a letter to the gathering space or the parish office.
All letters will be delivered to the archdiocesan office by June 1. Next year we will plan this as an event
with a video presentation.
Promoting vegetable gardens in apartment settings: We would like to facilitate a program to
teach apartment tenants techniques to grow gardens in pots in small outdoor spaces.
Care for our Home, with Mercy: Living Simply So That Other May Simply Live: Br. Cyril
Drnjevic will be conducting this retreat at the Pastoral Center at 10 a.m. on June 11. Register by June 2 as
space is limited.
Life, Justice & Peace Budget: Gerlinde submitted our budget. Sue handed out a worksheet that we
can modify as needed. It included Empty Bowl, Earth Day postcards, Tenants Workshop, Offering of Letters, a Peace Mass and misc. speakers and workshops. Also included in the LJP budget are respect life

We are partnering with Kairos Community Directories to have a new parish photo directory by
Christmas.
We will begin taking photos in August!
What is needed now?
An Organizer
People willing to make phone calls in English,
Spanish or Vietnamese—

TODAY HERE AT St. ANTHONY —Jessica Cox
Born without arms as the result of a severe birth
defect, Jessica Cox never allowed herself to believe
that she couldn’t accomplish her dreams. An expert
martial artist, college graduate and motivational
speaker, Jessica is also the world’s only armless airplane pilot, a mentor, and an advocate for people
with disabilities.
Our 5th Sunday family event is
today (the 4th Sunday) and
begins with a potluck at 5 pm in
Francis hall.
The Archdiocese has released its report tabulating the results of the Archbishop’s Catholic
Appeal through week 9 of the campaign. We
are 73% ($58,428) of the way towards our
goal of $80,445. We currently have just 12%
of our households participating. If participation increased to just 25% of our households
we would easily make our goal.
We will continue to forward donations and
pledges we receive through the offertory to the
Archdiocese. The Archdiocese will also continue receiving additional donations from St.
Anthony parishioners directly through the
mail. Please consider a generous contribution
to support the work the Archdiocese does in
supporting our parish.

SIX REASONS TO SHOP AT YOUR
FARMERS' MARKET
The month of May in Oregon brings local, community
sponsored Farmer’s Markets and the opportunity to
practice our Catholic Faith and Social Teaching in a special way. Here are six reasons to visit your Farmers’ Market:
1) By buying locally we “Care for God’s Creation”
by reducing the number of food miles our food
travels from the time of its production until it
reaches the consumer. A typical carrot travels 1,838
miles to reach your dinner table. The food miles for items
in the grocery store are, on average, 27 times higher than
the food miles for goods bought from local sources.
2) Farmers' markets enable farmers to keep approximately 80 cents of each dollar spent by the
consumer. By "Option for the Poor" the U.S. Bishops
apply the basic moral test-how our most vulnerable
members are faring-and "extend in a special way to those
who work in agriculture... Those who farm must have
decent wages and a decent life.”
3) Many Farmers' Markets accepts WIC and
SNAP, which means that more Oregonians can
access healthy, fresh, affordable, sometimes organic, locally-grown food. Without Farmers’ Markets
the cheapest foods are often highest in calories and lowest in nutrition but the cheapest foods are what is available when you try to stretch your food stamps (SNAP and
WIC).
4) Farmers' Markets help farmers stay in business. Catholic teaching about the "Dignity of Work" insists that farmers must be able to support themselves
and their families through their work.
5) You can create a special relationship by talking with the local farmer. Food systems, or supply
chains, generally include the grocer as the middleman.
"When we go to the supermarket, we rarely think about
where our food comes from, who produces it, who harvests it, or what it takes to process, package, and distribute it [food systems]."(USCCB: Pastoral Reflections on
Food, Farmers, and Farmworkers)
6) Buying local essentially supports your local
economy—the farm—and supports community.
The U.S. Bishops explain in the Catholic teaching "Call to
Family, Community and Participation" that each person
lives and develops in community.

Window into Divine Mercy
The Eucharist (Part I)
The Eucharist was the center of St. Faustina's life. In
her diary she wrote, “Jesus concealed in the Host is
everything to me”. She felt Christ within her as in a
living tabernacle. She believed that she owed everything to the Eucharist and that It transformed her
completely. The Eucharist is the greatest of the sacraments and center of our Christian life. It is the true
body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus, not just symbolic. It is a rich sacrament, which should be experienced in several different ways. As sacrifice, it is the
true and living perpetual passion of Christ on the
Cross repeated at each Mass. If we are to truly take
part in the sacrifice of the Mass through a loving and
growing relationship with God, we should unite ourselves and all aspects of our lives to Jesus' sacrifice.
We belong to the Mystical Body of Christ and therefore can unite all aspects of our lives to His sacrifice.
Sr. Faustina offered herself in union with Jesus for
the salvation of the souls of sinners. Vatican Council
II informs us: “that Christ's faithful, when present at
this mystery of faith (the Eucharist), should not be
there as strangers or silent spectators. On the contrary, … they should learn to offer themselves.
Through Christ, … they should be drawn day by day
into ever more perfect union with
God and each other”.

Saludos,
Domingo de la Santísima Trinidad,
Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo!
Tenemos una Trinidad de amor.
Dios es amor... amor puro
amor.....amor sagrado.

Te tengo a ti y tú me tienes a mí
