12th Sunday in Ordinary Time…WHO ARE WE TALKING HERE?
Jesus asked his disciples, who do you think I am? Asking ourselves
the same question, what answer can we give Jesus? To some they may call
him the Prince of Peace, the Redeemer, the Savior, the Great Teacher, the
Master, and many more. But personally, who is Jesus for us? We need not
answer this question for now, but what he is offering us is this: “If anyone
wishes to come after me must deny himself and take up his cross and follow
me”. Consequently, we will come to know Jesus personally. In our profession of faith, each one of us is being called to become disciples to the best
that we can. There is a great demand to follow him in order to make the grace of God fully alive in our midst. We are to
remember that discipleship is our grace-filled response to the person of Jesus; we have to come to know the one we are
following. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Our response must be based on our personal response to the person of Jesus as we
know him. In following Jesus, we are to grow in our faith and in our relationship with others daily as we moved on in
the midst of difficulties and challenges this life brings to us daily. As the Lord Jesus encourages his disciples to carry out
his teachings with selfless attitude and compassion for his people, we, too, are being called to do the same even though
we encounter rejection and opposition even from our respective families and friends. His grace is sufficient for us to endure the sufferings we may encounter in the course of our life.

The Catholic Church (a.k.a. the universal community of believers that received the faith from the apostles) has
been around for a long time; about 2,000 years to be exact. The Church was born on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2)
when the Holy Spirit came down upon the apostles and has been going ever since.
Imagine if you were 2,000 years old. You would have a lot of experience, a lot of wisdom and a lot of time for
your faith to mature and develop. You would still be the original [insert name here] and the basic things about you would remain the
same, but your understanding of those things would mature over time into something deep and powerful that only those who took

on the tragedy that happened in Orlando

Ở ĐÂY CHÚNG TA ĐANG NÓI VỀ AI?
Chúa Giêsu đã hỏi các môn đệ của Người, là các con nghĩ Thầy là ai? Hãy tự hỏi bản
thân của chúng ta với câu hỏi như vậy, và câu trả lời của chúng ta về Chúa Giesu như thế
nào? Đối với một vài người thì họ sẽ gọi Người là Vua Bình An, Đấng Cứu Thế, Đấng
Cứu Chuộc, Người Thầy Vĩ Đại, Ông Chủ, và nhiều nữa. Nhưng với tư cách cá nhân,
Chúa Giêsu đối với chúng ta là ai? Chúng ta không cần trả lời ngay bây giờ, nhưng
những gì Người nói với chúng ta là như thề này: “Nếu ai muốn theo Ta thì phải quên bản
thân mình đi, và vác thánh giá mà theo Ta”. Do đó, chúng ta sẽ đến và hiểu về bản tính Chúa Giêsu. Trong công việc
đức tin, mỗi người chúng ta được gọi để trở thành môn đệ của Người với hết sức của chúng ta. Có sự yêu cầu phải theo
Người để Ơn lành Thiên Chúa ở cùng chúng ta. Chúng ta nhớ rằng tình thầy trò là ơn lành đền đáp với Chúa Giêsu;
chúng ta phải đến để tìm hiểu về người chúng ta theo. Người ta gọi Thầy là ai? Câu trả lời của chúng ta tùy thuộc vào sự
hiểu biết cá nhân của mỗi chúng ta về Chúa Giêsu. Để theo Chúa Giêsu, chúng ta phải thăng tiến đức tin, và mối giao
hảo với mọi người giữa bao khó khăn và cạnh tranh của đời sống thường ngày. Như Thiên Chúa khuyến khích các môn
đệ của Người đi rao giảng lời dạy của Người với một lòng vị tha và thương xót với dân Người, thì Chúa cũng kêu gọi
chúng ta thực hành như vậycho dù chúng ta gặp phải những sự từ khước và đối nghịch ngay cả trong gia đình hay bạn
bè. Chúa sẽ ban ơn đầy đủ để chúng ta vượt mọi khó khăn gặp phải trên đường đời.

Những ai không theo Chúa Giêsu thì không phải là kẻ đi theo Người. Thật
đơn giản. Người theo là phải theo, và ai không theo thì không phải người
theo. Để theo Chúa Giêsu có nghĩa là phải theo Chúa Giêsu vào một xã hội
ở đó có sự công chính, ở đó tình thương bao trùm tất cả. Để theo Chúa
Giêsu có nghĩa là phải mang lấy ước mơ của Người và thực hiện cho được
ước mơ ấy.
