A Fond Farewell
As the school year has come to a close, we want to thank the following
faculty members who will be pursuing new endeavors:
MS. LESLIE BRADSHAW taught French
this year, sharing her love for the language and her experiences from travelling abroad. Next year, she will have the
opportunity to live in France, teaching
English to French-speaking students.
MS. HELEN COLSTON has been sharing
her love for math and learning with CJ
students for 18 years. Ms. Colston has
worked closely with many students,
encouraging and supporting them as
they mastered the many challenges of
math. Next year, Ms. Colston will be
teaching at The Fulton School.
MRS. JAIME INMAN has been sharing
her passion for business and computer
with CJ students for the past three
years. She will be teaching at Lindenwood University and helping students
as they navigate the college process.
DR. BILL JOERN has been a member of
the science department for the past nine
years and has been instrumental in the
Independent Science Research class. He
has shared his love for learning and science with our students and showed them
how to research and design experiments
and projects that answer questions and
solve problems. Dr. Joern will be retiring
but will continue to work on a part-time
basis with Ms. Goeddel, mentoring the
young women who are taking the
Independent Science Research class.
DR. KEVIN KNICKMAN has shared his
love of social studies and history with
CJ students for the past 10 years. He
has encouraged them to use their gifts,
challenging and supporting them as
they grew as learners. Dr. Knickman
has accepted a position at the Collegiate
School of Math and Science, where he
will teach social studies and lead the
social studies department.
SR. KATHRYN PRESS has been teaching
Theology I and working with Campus
Ministry for the past two years. She
has also worked closely with freshmen,
helping them navigate the transition to
high school. Sr. Kathryn will be living
on The Hill as a member ASCJ’s formation community and doing course work
for certification.
MRS. TAMMY RING has been a working
with students in the CJ Learning Center
for the past two years, sharing study
techniques, helping them to prepare for
tests and exams. She has also shared her
wisdom on how to lessen stress, be a
good student and work efficiently. Next
year, she will be working as a learning
consultant at the elementary-school level.
MR. KELLY WHITE has been teaching
Algebra II, Engineering and Environmental Engineering for the past four
years. After 20 years in the corporate
world, he accepted the challenge of
teaching at the high school level, sharing his love for math and science with
his students. Mr. White looks forward
to retirement and the opportunity to
travel and spend time with family.
MR. RICH WHITED has spent countless
hours fixing computers, assisting with
sound at CJ events and working closely
with students, faculty and staff. His
patience, humor and spirit of generous service will be missed by all. Mr.
Whited will be retiring this year, but
will return to help with special events at
CJ throughout the year.
We thank these special people for all they have shared with the CJ community and
pray that the Sacred Heart of Jesus will bless each of them and their families!
Fiscal Year End
Draws Near
In ordinary life, we hardly realize
that we receive a great deal more
than we give, and that it is only
with gratitude that life becomes
rich. —Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Here at the close of our fiscal year,
I extend my sincere thanks to those
of you who have already made a
Give from the Heart Annual Fund
gift. Truly, your trust and ongoing
generosity are two of our greatest
blessings. Please know that your support constantly reinforces our resolve
to share the love of the heart of Christ
in all we do at Cor Jesu. And we simply could not do it without you.
Annual Fund donations play a
pivotal role in solidifying the foundation of the CJ mission—providing tuition assistance to deserving
families as well as support of the
day-to-day operations of our school.
Every gift, regardless of size, is vitally
important because your giving
unites our community and makes
us that much stronger. That unified
strength provides the exceptional
academic and spiritual environment
from which the Class of 2015, like
so many bright and applied young
Cor Jesu women before them, have
emerged to take the love of the Heart
of Christ into the world.
There is still time to join the community of investors. Help us reach our
goal of 100% participation—
we can’t get there without you. You
may donate online at www.corjesu.

Grandparents’ Mass
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 11, 2015
Please mark your calendars for Sunday,
October 11 at 11:00 a.m. for the Cor Jesu
13th Annual Grandparents’ Mass. We invite
all our current students and their grandparents to join us for a beautiful Sunday
liturgy, followed by light refreshments.
We will also have the school open for your
daughters to give tours if they wish and a
photographer available for grandparent/
granddaughter pictures.
The grandparents will receive an invitation in mid-September. If you have not
submitted your daughters’ grandparents’
names and would like them to receive an
invitation, please email their names and
addresses to Nancy Kroll, Database Manager, at nkroll@corjesu.org. If you have any
questions, please contact Coordinator of
Special Events Shelley Fendler at 314-8424429, ext. 272, or sfendler@corjesu.org.
Poetry Fills the Halls of Cor Jesu
CJ freshmen celebrated Poetry
in Your Pocket day in May by
distributing poems to the CJ
community. The Poetry Society
of America encourages individuals to carry a poem with them
throughout the day, to attend a
poetry reading, or read a poem
aloud themselves on Poetry in
Your Pocket day.
21st Annual CJA Golf Tournament
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2015
Mark your calendars now for the 21st Annual Cor Jesu Golf Tournament on Monday,
September 14, 2015, at the prestigious Sunset Country Club. If you are interested in
working on the Golf Tournament committee or volunteering to help with the event,
please contact Coordinator of Special Events Shelley Fendler at 314-842-4429, ext.
272, or sfendler@corjesu.org.
We thank you for your past
support and are asking you
or your company to assist
this year by considering one
or more of the following:
CONTEST
SPONSORSHIP
Highlight your company
in a special way through
sponsorship of various golf
contests at the tournament. Receive
tremendous exposure through special
signage at the contest hole(s) and special
recognition in the tournament program
and on CJ’s website.
HOLE SPONSORSHIP
This is a great way to get exposure for
your company, complete with a sign at
the tee box, a listing in the tournament
program and on Cor Jesu’s website.
LUNCH, DINNER, BAR OR DRINK CART
SPONSORSHIP
You or your company’s name will be
listed with special signage, in the tour-
nament program and on
CJ’s website. A premium
foursome package is also
included.
ATTENDANCE AND
CONTEST PRIZES
We are looking for gifts of
any type to award as attendance prizes to the players
in our tournament. We
can also use any special one-of-a kind
prizes to award the winners of our various contests — golf or non-golf items
with or without your company logo.
AUCTION ITEMS During the lunch and
dinner, we conduct a small silent auction. Thus, we would love to receive any
sports tickets, vacation condos, sports
memorabilia, or any other items that
would be of interest to the group.
Thank you for considering the above
ways to participate. For more information, or to make a secure donation
online, visit www.corjesu.org/golf.

SUCCESSFUL END TO
SPRING SPORTS SEASONS
Lacrosse
Varsity Lacrosse finished the season with a 15-5 record. The team
marched through the postseason to
take on St. Joe in the finals of the
Missouri Lacrosse Class 2 Championship. This was the most successful
finish in the programs history. JV
had a fantastic season as well finishing with a 14-3-2 record. Soccer The tough regular
season schedule
for the varsity
soccer team paid
off for them in the
postseason. The team
defeated Mehlville and Lindbergh
to win the district championship. They went on the shut out Jackson
in the sectional round, advancing to
play St. Joe in the quarterfinals on
March 30. The quarterfinal game
was a battle at 0-0 until St. Joe
got the only goal of the game with
under four minutes remaining in
regulation. JV finished their season
with an 8-4-3 record and the freshmen team finished 8-3. Thank you to the moms who came
to our April board meeting and have
already volunteered to help next year!
We are always looking for volunteers to
assist with our events, so please consider
how you might like to help. If you think
you would like to chair or co-chair a

Fathers’ Club News…
CJ’s Fathers’ Club would like to thank
all the dads for a tremendous and
rewarding year! We can’t provide events
for dads, daughters and service to the
Cor Jesu Academy without you. We
are truly blessed to have dedicated dads
serving the school community.

girls and their memories of CJ will last
a lifetime!
Auction and Service – Thanks to Jim
Lewis for his leadership and organizing our
service projects this year and the set-up and
tear-down of the auction.
CJFC Highlights for 2014-15:
Father/Daughter Trivia – Thanks to Trivia
Chairmen John Monda and Rob Schoelch
for running a great event and making sure
all daughters leave with a prize. If you
haven’t tried to match wits with a CJ student you should!
Also, very special thanks to Sr. Barbara
Thomas for her support of the CJFC
and its mission. Sr. Barbara takes time
every month to attend our board meetings and share her vision of what we can
do to better serve the school.
Back to School BBQ – Our kick-off
event where dads share fellowship and
learn about CJFC activities for the
upcoming year. More than 100 dads
were treated to BBQ by Brian Backer,
Leo’s Wings and Kraftig Beer at our
kick-off event.
Movie Night – More than 250 dads
and daughters enjoyed watching a movie
under the stars. Many thanks to our
Movie Night Chairman Tom Pandolfo
for organizing the event and the Leo
Anglo family for all the great snacks.
Father/Daughter Liturgy – This is
always a highlight on the CJFC calendar
and it was no different this year with
a full gym once again. A big thanks to
Father/Daughter Liturgy Chairman
Dan Tarlas and his team for another
special day with our daughters.
Father/Daughter Bowling – We had a
great turn out at Crestwood Bowl with
plenty of food and drink and 10 lucky
gift cards winners. Thanks to event
chairman, Tom Pandolfo, for organizing
and Mike Bluth, owner of Crestwood
Bowl, for hosting the event.
Father/Daughter Dinner Dance – A
record number of dads and daughters
danced the night away. The Tom Breitenstein Memorial Award was presented
to Dan Tarlas for his tireless work with
both the CJFC and the CJ Advisory

LED-lighting project this year, replacing

through Ameren.

Parking Committee – Mel Leong and his
team do a great job of making sure parking
works smoothly at CJ events. Big thanks to
our parking team!
As you can see, it has been a great year! I
want to take this opportunity to thank all
the men who have selflessly supported the
CJFC. As our family’s time at CJA comes
to a close, I will look back on my experience with the CJFC fondly. The CJ family
are truly the best. The commitment of
the parents to this wonderful community
certainly reflects the passion we all have for
this amazing school.
A big “thank you” goes out to the CJFC
board, committee chairs and volunteers
for the time they dedicate to this club. The
Lastly, the future for the CJFC looks
bright. We will have a strong leadership
team again next year, who will continue
the CJFC’s success in the coming year.
Best of luck to all our graduating seniors
and remember to keep your alma mater
in your prayers and memories. You are
truly the heart of CJA.
Please mark your calendars now for
the CJFC Kick-Off on Thursday, September 3, 2015, and help us welcome
the incoming freshmen and get off to
a great start on the 2015-16 school
year. Also mark your calendars for our
first father-daughter event of the year —
Movie Night on Sunday, September
27, 2015 — a premier event that grows
in popularity each year. As always, you
can find information about the CJFC at
www.corjesu.org/fathersclub.
This wraps up another great year for the
CJFC. Thanks again for all that you do
to help us. Our goal is to bring dads
and daughters together during their four
short years at CJA and provide ways to
give back to the school. We hope to see
you next year. Remember, if you are the
dad of a CJ girl, you are part of the CJ
Fathers’ Club!

A Summer Blessing
Have a great summer! May your experiences
renew, refresh and re-energize you and your
families. Be assured of my prayers for you.
Sr. Kathleen Mary Coonan, ascj
Principal
May you walk with God this summer in whatever you do and wherever
you go.Walking with God means...walking with honesty and with
courage. Walking with love, respect, and concern for the feelings of others.
May you talk to God this summer every day and in every situation.
Talking with God means...praying words of praise for the beauty of
creation. Saying prayers of thanks for friends and good times, asking
God’s help in all your decisions. Expressing sorrow when you have
failed. May you talk with God every day. Amen.
