First Sunday of Advent Besides a new
liturgical year, this Advent features an
additional “beginning”—next week’s opening
of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, a graced
opportunity to contemplate more profoundly
and live more concretely the mystery of God’s
unconditional love. Pope Francis says that
mercy, as the bridge connecting God and the
human family, opens our hearts to welcome
God’s love for us sinners and our eyes to
recognize others, especially society’s least
loved and most vulnerable, as brothers and sisters entrusted to our care.
Today’s scriptures provide a perfect Jubilee preparation. Jeremiah
comforts us with the promise of God’s justice; Paul challenges us to
abound in love for all; Luke bids us anticipate Jesus’ future coming as
the joyful advent of our redemption. But in a unique way, this Jubilee
Year’s Advent reminds us that Jesus, whose coming we await, is
already present among us, in those for whom we need to become
instruments of God’s mercy. —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
SECOND COLLECTION
This weekend is our SECOND COLLECTION to
benefit our Parish Improvement Fund. Thank you for
your support and prayers for our parish community!
GIVE ON LINE
We believe that God wants to take care of our
needs and give us enough to share with
others, too. As each one has received a special gift,
employ it in serving one another as good stewards of
the manifold grace of God. Please remember St
Anthony’s with your weekly envelope or when you’re
away. Smart phone users: simply scan this QR code
to get started. We are not being asked to give equally
but to share in equal sacrifice. Thank You for your
support and generosity!

The Extraordinary
Jubilee Year of Mercy
@Pontifex November 16
All human persons – all of us – are
important in God’s eyes.
Dec. 8, 2015 - Nov. 20, 2016
.
In calling for this Jubilee Year, Pope
Francis is encouraging the faithful to know the face of God's
mercy — Jesus Christ Incarnate — and to show that face of
mercy to the world through our words and actions.
“I am confident that the whole Church, which is in such need of
mercy for we are sinners, will be able to find in this Jubilee the
joy of rediscovering and rendering fruitful God's mercy, with
which we are all called to give
comfort to every man and every
woman of our time. Do not forget
that God forgives all, and God
forgives always. Let us never tire
of asking forgiveness.”
– Pope Francis

Advent is about preparation and
becoming present “again” to the God
who is eternally present to us. Our
conduct matters; what we do and don’t
do matters (as evidenced in the
Confiteor). We ought to strive to love
God evermore, but it must not stop there,
for in loving our neighbors, we love
God, too.

para el Jubileo. Jeremías nos consuela con la promesa de la justicia de Dios;

PARISH / OTHER NEWS AROUND THE DIOCESE
recordar Advientos anteriores, nosotros
recordamos a quienes nos inspiran a través
de su fe y de sus acciones. Nosotros
podemos también ser mentores
memorables y modelos para otros a través
de nuestras demostraciones de discipulado
y corresponsabilidad.
