Welcome to ST. MARGARET MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Decimocuarto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario July 5, 2015 Teaching Moment: What is an “Ambo”? The lectern from which the Scriptures are proclaimed and then explained through the homily. Through its design the ambo speaks of the dignity and importance of the Word of God. A second ambo in the church may be used for song leading, announcements and comments; this second ambo is in a minor position through design and location in comparison to the scripture ambo. The terms ambo and lectern are used synonymously. “If you have a question, comment or suggestion please contact: Tony Mandala at amandala@sbdiocese.org or the Parish Office. Dear friends, I mentioned that the liturgy committee took time to read the entire Church document on church building interiors, and came up with 25 very thoughtful suggestions/observations ... about how to improve our church building. Here they are: Liturgy Committee Recommendations: church building More appropriate place of repose for Eucharist (tabernacle). Left front of main chamber? Mother’s chapel? If tabernacle is placed in Mother’s chapel, we’ll need some nice kneelers. Mother’s chapel uses: Eucharistic chapel, children’s liturgy gathering place? We have a potential donor to renovate this room. More appropriate place(s) for music ministers. Excavate large space behind sanctuary? Continue to use choir loft for large choirs. Placement of organ? Renovate sanctuary space. Elevate sanctuary to a uniform level: not so many little steps and obstacles. Better visibility for presider’s chair. Consider refiguring the sanctuary, losing space in back (excavated musicians’ space) and extend center of sanctuary (and altar) into the assembly space. Remove side altars; should be only one altar. Better and more dignified baptismal font --- at main doors? Mid-way into church? Front left? Separate baptistery? Evaluate and improve interior lighting Provide another place from which to make announcements (instead of using ambo) Better and more seating for handicapped. Reconfigure seating in front, movable seats? Put projection screens (for music) in better places (perhaps one on each side), and provide monitors for those sitting inside rooms? More and nicer sanctuary furnishings, candlesticks, etc. more options. Better landscaping at main door and along side of church building. Perhaps a permanent place for paschal fire? Replace or fix entry doors. Evaluate furnishing and lighting of confessional spaces. Use unutilized confessionals as devotional spaces. Offer devotional candles space in church Better sanctuary furnishings: chairs for 15eras and weddings, etc. Illuminate St. Margaret Mary image so people driving by at night can see it? Illuminate front façade of church? Better parking lot lights Bride’s room? Better storage Make stations of the cross brighter Evaluate statues and where we’d like to place statues Get church bells working again In sacristy: functional sanctorum, sink, provision for washing linens Our next step will be to call in a consultant from the diocese to help create a concrete proposal for our remodel, in order to present it to you for comments. I hope you find this as exciting as I do! Peace, All Good! Fr. Padre Mike Page Six St. Margaret Mary July 5, 2015 EVENTS Youth Nights Sunday’s from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Dates: June 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26 LEADERSHIP TRAINING All high school aged teens welcome. Dates: June 29, July 6, 13, 20, 27 Teen Corner: What I learned on my leadership training day at the ropes course. First, this exercise took some serious teamwork and I’m pleased to report that every man made it ;) Seriously speaking though, we learned a lot this day and there are two important things I would like to share. First is, trust makes everything easier. Many of our leaders have been working together for some time now. This can make it easy to rely on only those you already know. On a ropes course however, you are forced to rely on those around you, even if you don’t really know them. This helps you realize that we must put faith into people, especially those God places in your life. Life becomes way easier by empowering those around you. The second thing I learned was, the best leaders are good listeners. As we quickly learned, being the leader didn’t mean you had to tell people what to do. Just listening to others gave insight concerning the navigation of the ropes course. By listening first I was able to share more accurate information with others. This is something that can be easily overlooked as we sometimes fight to be heard. So, I learned to never overlook the importance of listening and how listening gives you the knowledge to accurately guide others. Sports Nights Join us for some fun in the field.
