The presence of children in a parish is a sign of life. To hear an occasional squeak from a child during Mass should not be viewed as something upsetting. But there are times when a child should be gently taken out of the worshipping area until he or she is ready to return quietly. A child will only learn that he is expected to remain calm in church if something is done when he is disruptive. Apart from infants who are nursing or bottle-fed, children should not be munching on snacks during Mass. We find food crumbs in the pews and on the floor. Children simply do not need to be eating in church. My next point concerns toys in church. Basic rule: If the toy makes noise when it is dropped, it is inappropriate in church. If a child is attached to a little stuffed animal or a blanket, that’s fine. But electronic and plastic toys are a no-no. They distract other children and can be noisy. Children’s bibles or saint books are fine as they encourage prayer and can educate our little ones in the faith. Hopefully, those of us without children will show our love for the future of our faith and offer support and compassion to parents who are struggling to teach their children proper manners and behaviors. Let parents know when you see their children behaving respectfully. Give them positive feedback and thank them for being open to the gift of life! All Faith Community Services All Faith food collection will be next weekend, July 4th & 5th. Please bring your nonperishable items and deposit your donations in the baskets available in the entrance hall. The need is all year round and the Buckeye community needs our help.
