Our Mission is to nurture children and their families
through sharing Christ’s Love while instilling academic excellence.
From Mrs. Pat’s Desk
Congratulations to the following students for receiving excellent
ratings at the Speech Festival at Sacred Heart School in Freeport
on Tuesday, April 8th: Maddy Leaunart, Alexis Witt, Cassie Halbur,
Kellen Anderson, Dylan Klukken & Tony Young. I commend you
for your courage and bravery as it is not easy getting up in front of
a crowd and speaking. Students were rated in the following
categories: volume, speed, articulation, spontaneity/facial & vocal
expression, eye contact, memorization, understanding and
communication of meaning.
Last week, the Nurtured Heart value we were working on was
“resourcefulness.” During the week it was observed in students
who went back and reread the text in their achievement test to
make sure their answers were correct and without being told
students came to my office to get a broom to clean up the mud that
fell off their shoes. While teaching religion, the 2nd grade were
studying the Our Father. One of the students asked me what the
word “hallowed” meant. After giving her directions to use context
clues, she came up with the word “holy”, this led to the word
“trespasses” next. Seeing these values shining in our students on a
daily basis is one way we are continuing to carry out our mission.
This past week, we focused on the value of being faithful. This
value ties in nicely with Holy Week. Each of the classes did special
classroom activities throughout the week. On Wednesday, grades
3-6 had a Lenten Retreat and celebrated a Passover meal together.
Faith Formation:
Class on Wednesday, April 23rd. 2nd graders and parents are
to be here also for First Communion Practice.
S.N.A.C.K. Time (St. Nick’s Awesome Christian Kids)
S.N.A.C.K. Time at St. Nick’s includes youth Grade 6 and up.
We will be starting regular gathering times on the third
Sunday of the month. Our next gathering date is TBD from
3:30 - 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!
VBS 2014: Wanted! It may seem like a long way off, but
summer will be here before we know it. We are in need of
individual(s) willing to coordinate VBS for St. Nicholas if we
are going to offer it. Please let Tonya Beulke know by the end
of April if you are at all interested or to find our more
information.

Grades 5-6 :: Here’s What’s Happening
Little Hearts for Jesus (LH4J):
Next Sessions will be May 4th, 11th, 25th @ 10:30 Mass.
The 5th & 6th graders have been busy in math. The 5th grade has
been working on multiplying fractions and using percent to find
discount prices on various items. The 6th grade has been working
with inequalities & solving algebraic equations. Fantasy drawing
of mythical creatures had the students’ imaginations working. It is
surprising where our minds can take us! Speech presentations
gave students an opportunity to memorize a selection. They then
presented it to an audience of their peers & parents. What an
awesome job done by all! We also started working on our play
“Things Could Always Be Worse” for Celebration of Learning Day
on May 9th. Please join us for a humorous adventure of a noisy
family!
