FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Church in Africa is the fastest-growing Catholic community in the world. Many people in Africa face a daily reality of food insecurity, water shortage, unemployment, lack of medical care, and illiteracy. At the same time, Catholicism is flourishing amid these harsh circumstances. The Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa supports the future of the Church by funding projects that nourish the people of Africa in both body and spirit. Children growing up in Burkina Faso suffer from an environment marked by poverty and one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. A grant from the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa will give them new resources and a chance at a better education. In the Mouhoun region, located in the northwest part of the country, the grant will fund 13 computers, computer programs, and printers for teachers in the Diocese of Dedougou. Seventy-nine teachers will participate in a three-day training course, which will be funded by both the grant and local contributions. The teachers will receive resources and skills that will improve the children’s learning conditions and promote the transfer of knowledge. Thanks to donations from parishioners like you, these children will receive a stronger education and hope for a better future. With your help, the Church in Africa can continue to play an active role in the evangelization of the world. Projects like this one care for the needs of the African people. This allows Africans to continue giving the world their vibrant expression of faith. Please give generously to the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Gil For more information on the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa and the projects it funds, please visit www.usccb.org (search “Church in Africa”). 2 JULY 5, 2015 Father’s Day Book Sale Paulist Father's gently used books. Would you like to join us in sharing your Catholic faith with the children of St. Paul’s parish? Our children’s entire ministry depends upon the creativity, energy and enthusiasm of many adults in the community. Are you willing to commit yourself to be present with your students for classes from September to May? However, there is some latitude for your personal schedule because you will be sharing the teaching responsibility with another teacher for the 30 Sunday’s sessions scheduled during the school year from 11:00-12:30 PM. The heart of our program is the dedication of our catechists. Co-teachers will be needed in the fall for the following classes: First pre-communion class (1st & 2nd graders); Post-Communion class (3rd , 4th & 5th graders); Pre-Confirmation class (6th & 7th graders).Training and ongoing support are provided with opportunities for personal spiritual growth. If you feel serious about this calling and ministry, please contact me as soon as possible. The interview process for catechist is going on now. Other volunteers’ opportunities: Substitute teachers, hall monitor, clerical help, and refreshment committee. Religious Education for Preschool Children Saint Paul’s offers a wonderful religious education program for three-to-five year old children called “The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.” The Catechesis is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an "atrium," a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use. In the atrium the child can ponder a biblical passage or a prayer from the liturgy by taking the material for that text and working with it - placing wood figures of sheep in a sheepfold of the Good Shepherd, setting sculpted apostles around a Last Supper table, or preparing a small altar with the furnishings used for the Eucharist. One session will be offered on Sundays (9:30am-11:30am) beginning September 13th. Registar Sus Hijos Para Educacion Religiosa Ahora!!! Please consider this important ministry to our youth.
