We refer to it as the “Fourth Day book”. In the first paragraph on page 9 is the statement: “In the truest sense, Emmaus is a spiritual renewal movement because it depends on each generation of pilgrims to pass on its enthusiasm to the next”. The keystone of the renewal process is SPONSORSHIP. If you have someone in mind who God has led you to sponsor, go to the Diakonia website and click on “Sponsorship Training” to find out all you need to know about leading a pilgrim to the Walk to Emmaus. …...or ask any board member. His point was that just like the athlete, the pianist, the surgeon developing the performance of our walk with the Lord requires practice. The more the practice, generally, the better that performance. I was struck by how this relates to the Emmaus move- ment. Of course, the practice we are talking about is not exactly the same as the athlete, the pianist, the surgeon or the artist. However, both require repetition and focus. On a weekend Walk, we eliminate the distractions of one’s everyday life. We spend time on prayer, study and Christ centered action. We demonstrate each of these repeatedly. The Walk is, in fact, built on three days of practice, three days of focus. In the post walk community we emphasize the Fourth Day beginning with “Fan the Flame.” With these, as well as at each gathering, at each reunion group meeting, we use a standardized format which is meant to help us focus and practice those things that help enhance our walk with the Lord. We get an unbelievable reward watching pilgrims develop new closeness with God. Yes, the stated goal of the Walk to Emmaus is to develop leaders for the church but the benefit each of us reaps from a Walk, is in itself, sufficient justification to expend the effort we expend. Come Holy Spirit……. The team selection committee will begin soon to select team members for the Men’s and Women’s Walks scheduled for 2016. Although the rewards of serving on a team differ from those you received as a Pilgrim, they can be every bit as meaningful if not more so. It is a great opportunity for you to serve as the hands and feet of Christ. “Remember that The Walk to Emmaus is just one part of your life in grace. The whole weekend is directed toward the hope that once you have experienced this Christian ideal, you will meet in special Christian communities and share how Christ is working in your life. These special communities are called group reunions. The group reunion is one of the greatest treasures of the Emmaus movement. It helps you persevere in the life in grace and hold on to those valuable aspects of the weekend when you return to your life in the world. The group reunion serves the life of the Emmaus community.” Go to the Diakonia Emmaus website and click on “All Forms” under “Quick Links” to find the Team Service Form. (http://www.diakoniaemmaus.org/forms.html) Complete the form and send it to the address at the bottom of the form, or give it to any Board Member. Christ Is Counting On You CALLING ALL MUSICIANS!!! Can you play an instrument? Can you make a joyful noise? Do you enjoy using your musical talent to give praise to our Lord? Then… WE NEED YOU! If you answered yes to any question, Diakonia Community needs YOU! Musicians are needed to serve on Walk teams. Please contact Cami Pace, our Community Music Coordinator if you are interested. Send an email to: Diakoniaemmaus@yahoo.com Day Four: The Pilgrim’s Continued Journey, chapter 6, page 40 The Upper Room Handbook on Emmaus (pg.115) states: “……..communities measure the vitality of the Emmaus movement not by the number of Walks or the number of pilgrims but by the number of ongoing group reunions among the pilgrims.” To insure the Diakonia Community members are able to continue their Fourth Day walk in grace, this section of the newsletter will focus on helping members find existing group reunions or provide assistance in forming their own group. Our first task is to identify existing groups. A list of groups including group name, location, meeting schedule, and contact information will be published so pilgrim sponsors and community members can join in this vital aspect of the Fourth Day walk in grace. So, this is a shout out to existing groups to contact either Don Taubert (dhtaubert@satx.rr.com) or Dan Green (dgreen24@att.net) with your information. Here is the first group on the list: Name: Location: Schedule: Time: Contact: Couples for Christ Northminster Presbyterian Church 1st Tuesday & 3rd Friday 6:30 pm Dan Green (210-673-9569) dgreen24@att.net We will add to the list as information is received and this section will be a continuing feature in the newsletter. Please send us your group’s information! 5 Women’s Walk #130 Team April 9-12, 2015 “Don’t worry about anything, instead pray about everything.” Philippians 4:6 Lay Director Kristi Grant Assist Lay Directors (ADL) Table Leaders/ Spiritual Director Assist Table Leaders Karen Stocks Assist Spiritual Directors Servant Team Donna Green Patti Tanner-Coordinator Ann Tarrillion Kathy Budde Marzi Rust Iris Amon Amanda Cockrell Karen Niemeyer Laurie Owen Sonja Dalglish Nancy Cornelius Linda Kariger Suzanne Taubert Christopher Scott Shelia May Inez King Ed Brogan Jan Alvarado Grace Spell Makenna Maloy Elinor Greene Diana Mascilli Mary Forey Jill Raney Helen Richards Debbie Flanagan Susan McManus Charlotte Canaday Robin Atiyeh Ida Reyes Laura McCroskey Music Team Steve Richards Board Rep Cathy Flynn Elaine Rohrbeck Centering Song: Sanctuary Meditation Song: Seek Ye First 6 Board of Directors Don Taubert Jim Ball Community Spiritual Director Secretary Treasurer Class of 2015 Class of 2016 Class of 2016 Stan Marshall Dalilia Samayoa-Russell Community Lay Director Class of 2016 Dan Green Robert Stein Cathy Flynn DeColores Team Registrar Newsletter Class of 2016 Team Selection Committee Chair Agape Letters Class of 2016 Class of 2016 Lisa Schwartz Class of 2016 Martha Flores Laura McCroskey Lay Director in Training Kristi Grant Auditor Class of 2017 Patty Haltmar Webmaster Class of 2016 Gathering Coordinator Community Communication Chair Class of 2016 Class of 2017 Ray Reyes Lay Director in Training Trailer Inventory Class of 2017 Ann Tarwater Class of 2017 Carrie Herrera Past Lay Director Community Support Jen Agarwal Walk Day Care Coordinator Donna Green Historian Cami Pace Music Coordinator Helen Richards Librarian 7
