LA VIDA DEL CUERPO DE CRISTO Some of Saint Paul’s best known and most beloved imagery is contained in the passages from First Corinthians that we have heard last week and this week: the many gifts granted by the one same Spirit and the many members making up the one Body of Christ. Few passages from sacred scripture more accurately sum up how Christian vocations work together. Unlike some of Paul’s other writings, which are a product of the social and religious conventions of his time, these enable us to look at our own lives and the lives of those around us to discern what gifts, what vocations the Holy Spirit has given for the good of all. We can likewise know the joys and sorrows of the other members of the Body and share in them for the strengthening of the whole Body of Christ. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading - Ezra read from the book of the law of God to the assembled people. They understood and accepted the law (Nehemiah 8:2-4a, 5-6, 8-10). Psalm - Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life Psalm 19). Second Reading - As the body with its many parts is still one body, so it is with Christ (1 Corinthians 12:12-30 [12-14, 27]). Gospel - While attending worship in the Nazarean synagogue, Jesus reads from the prophet Isaiah and declares himself to be the fulfillment of the prophecy (Luke 1:1 -4; 4:14-21). How do parents handle an admission of abuse? No parent wants their children to suffer from abuse of any kind. However, if a child discloses any instance of abuse, how you handle this informa on is cri cal to their well-being. One of the most important things you can do when a child discloses their abuse is not over react, despite the strong and o en overwhelming emo ons of anger that you are experiencing at that moment. Be certain that you show the child great love and concern through calm, reflec ve words of understanding and compassion. For a copy of the Virtus® ar cle “A er Abuse is Disclosed” and more ps on how to handle abuse disclosures email jvienna@laarchdiocese.org.
