Inaugural First Mondays Connecticut Recap
April 9, 2012
First Mondays held its first Connecticut gathering on April
2nd at the Douro Restaurant in Greenwich.
Approximately 25 people attended the event where they
enjoyed wonderful hors d’oeuvres and drinks, as well as
met new people and old friends. Paula Darlington, who
organized the event gave a short description of the I Can
Still Do That Foundation’s mission, which is to help put
America back to work by creating new, sustainable jobs.
Most of the time, however, was devoted to networking.
Among the Foundation Advisors in attendance were: Paula
Darlington, Ric Zivic, Jeff Peterson, Ron Dobey, and Aaron
Beaudette. Jeff Peterson brought the most guests,
including some fellow Vassar College alumni. A good time
was had by all.
Future events will include guest speakers from the
Fairfield County area. The next event will be held mid
summer in the Greenwich area as well. More details on this
will follow in the upcoming months.
We look forward to seeing all our attendees as well as new
ones in the future. Anyone who is interested in being a
guest speaker or would like more information about future
events should contact Jill@icanstilldothat.org.

New York City after a terrorist attack, trapped in the basement of a
bombed theater while the city is evacuated. Eventually, they locate an old

Facebook 202
Turn Friends Into Raving Fans
I’m guessing you opened this email because your current
facebook page feels less like a happenin’ night club and
more like an abandoned warehouse. (Wait, was that the
sound of crickets I just heard?)
Or maybe you don’t even have a fan page (aka show
business page) yet because you don’t know how to create
one (or worse, waste all your time on something that
won’t even help your career)
You know watcha need? – The coolest fan page ever! A
page that captivates casting directors, wows fans who
want more of your acting, gets people talking and makes
YOU look top of the crop, obviously.
But there is just one little problem.
How the heck do you create such a kick butt fan page??
And once you have it built, how do you use Facebook to
get folks to look at and be interested in you and what you
do?
Of course you don’t want this to become just another
piece of “busy work” on your to-do list, right?
Well, I happen to know the secret, and his name is Gary
Ploski. In fact my search for someone to help me with my
own social media marketing (and making a ton of bad
choices to start) eventually led me to someone I consider a
GURU, and you will too.
Together, we created the perfect way for you to advertise
yourself and get the recognition you deserve with
Facebook 202.
How To Know If This Program Is For You
You’re ready to promote your career and acting abilities
with a Show Business Page Dreams are Made Of.
You want to end your confusion about personal profiles vs.
pages, groups, community pages, etc . . . you just need
clear step-by-step instructions delivered in language you
can actually understand. Plain English (no geek speak).
AND – it can’t just look cool, it has to be HOT. After all,
we’re looking to stand out here. This fan page needs to
bring in new eyes, and make the folks you already know
and new visitors to your page fall even more in love with
you.
A Few of The Fabulous Things You’re About to Learn
Exactly how to create your own Facebook page from
scratch
How to invite friends from your main profile page to
“like” your page, thus becoming “fans”
Page administration, cool applications and browsing
within the showbiz community to make super
connections
Focus on creating on-line relationships by blogging,
sharing videos, links and other uploads
Lean about advertising to casting directors (and other
industry players) via ads on FB where you appear on
their screen when they log in to their account
(Whaaaat? Yup!)
Create invitations and learn to “update” them and
resend over and over to get more attention
What You’ll Need to Bring
An open mind and a willingness to play.
Your laptop or internet enabled tablet or other device with
Facebook already installed.
Some chocolate. Just kidding. No I’m not.
Our Always-Current Training System
Even though this is a hands on, interactive seminar,
Facebook in it’s infinite wisdom keeps moving things
around, changing constantly. And so do we. You’ll have
FOREVER access to our online presentation that covers
everything in the workshop and is updated continuously as
Facebook changes.
Most other programs (hey are there any other ones out
there given strictly for actors…hummm, don’t think so, not
yet anyway) for regular Facebook business users make you
pay for updates and “next level” courses. But you’ll be
current, for FREE, forever.
So How Much Does This Stellar Facebook Seminar Cost?
My policy is for each of my programs to deliver the best for
the least. My commitment to ending the starving artist
syndrome is to keep these seminars as cheap (yes I said it)
as possible so that you can invest more in your education
of business and marketing and heck, actually MAKE MORE
MONEY as an actor.
There are folks out there (and mentors of mine) that teach
some similar Facebook courses to traditional business
people who use FB to promote what they’ve got and
they’re charging $297 for a video seminar. Not even live
and in person.
Gary is sooooo worth a lot more and eventually he’ll get it,
but right now we both want you to learn, use, and get
results from Facebook 202. So this AWESOME seminar costs
only $35.
Now I know you know that’s a steal, a value, a gift. So
register today and get that kickin’ fan page you deserve.
Here’s the Skinny on the Next Date Available
Please note: Online registration closes 24 hours prior to
the event. To save $$$ register early online!

P.S. Here’s what some ravin’ Gary Ploski fans had to say
about taking Facebook 202.
“Gary Ploski is outstanding as a presenter –
warm, thorough AND entertaining. He doesn’t
make you feel overwhelmed at the amount of
info provided. Good speed, pacing and content.
Worth every penny!” ~ Jan Meiselman
“Thank you for this fun and informative seminar.
Although I’m not much of a ‘techie’, I am
inspired to keep on learning and understanding
these valuable online tools as I go along”
~ Joseph Menchaca
“This was amazing and really hit all of the
important points. I learned a LOT more about
Facebook and I have ideas to promote my other
businesses as well as my acting biz. But I want
MORE – maybe a FB 303? Gary is articulate and
engaging as a presenter. Thanks.” ~ Roger
Anthony
“Soooo informative, I learned more than I
expected to and Gary was incredibly entertaining
and knowledgeable.” ~ Dana Connolly
“Fantastic!!! Great wide and deep information
on the potential of Facebook to move your acting
biz forward.” ~ Robert Gladding
To Your Success,
Lisa

info you'll learn in FB202. However, if you want to get

from advisor Andrea Wolper:
Hi, Friends.
I don't know about you, but trees
and birds* and flowers and sky are
making me especially happy these
days. I'm also happy that my trio
will be back at the fabulous 55 Bar.
I was talking with some people the
other day about what makes the 55
so special. It's not fancy, it doesn't
have the best food (in fact, there
isn't any food--but they do serve
good drinks!). It's just got a special
feeling, and there's a reason people
from all over the world stop in at
the 55. We hope you'll spend a little
musical time with us there this Wednesday; we'd love to
see you.
My trio will be back at the 55 Bar on April 25th, from 7 9 pm. If you've been on this list for any length of time you
know how much I love playing there--and it's great to be
back. We had a terrific time in March, with a full house
(people seem to know it's a special place), and are looking
forward the being back this month. Please join us. Wed.
April 25, 7 - 9 PM. The 55 Bar. 55 Christopher St., NYC. No
cover charge!
A couple new workshops are in the offing:
A six-week song workshop culminating in a performance
and
An afternoon group singing workshop designed to help
you access the music inside of you, and release it with
more freedom, spontaneity, and joy.
Updates will appear soon on my website, so please check
from time to time, or feel free to let me know if you're
interested in either, and I'll make sure you find out when
the dates are set.
Thanks for reading! I hope to see you on the 25th!
Love, Andrea

New Exhibition & Artists ReceptionIn Celebration of Our
2nd Anniversary
In mezzotint engravings of typewriters, sewing machines,
electric fans, vintage textiles, old mining equipment,
movie cameras and other mundane items. Carol Wax
examines how perceptions of objects change from stateof-the-art to artifact to art. Using the mezzotint medium's
dramatic lighting effects, wax transforms the ordinary into
extraordinary and animates the inanimate.
In addition to her masterful prints is a display of plates,
state proofs and tools with a detailed description of this
intriguing and meticulous process.
Carol Wax, author of The Mezzotint: History and Technique
(Abrams, 1990, 1996) is one of the world’s leading
authorities of this centuries old engraving technique. Her
award winning prints are in numerous museum collections,
including the Smithsonian, Philadelphia and Metropolitan
Museums of Art.

Karl Berger's Improvisers Orchestra Series
at The Jazz Gallery
The Workshop/Performance Evenings
continue in a bi-weekly Tuesday night series
April 17, May 1 and 15
7:30 p.m. Workshop/rehearsal | 9:00 p.m. Performance
Karl Berger’s Improvisers Orchestra debuted Tuesday,
March 20th as a New York Times Critics Choice at The Jazz
Gallery, 290 Hudson Street, New York, NY. Following a
critically-acclaimed eight-month run at The Stone in 2011,
Karl Berger's Orchestra of 18+ professional string, horn,
and percussion soloists continues to turn improvisational
ideas developed in the 7:30 pm workshop/rehearsal into a
fully formed 9:00 pm performance.
Using his “Music Mind” concept, Karl introduces a new
approach and experience of harmonizing improvised
sound. “The suite-like performances have a warm,
buoyant vibe issuing from brief folkloric-like motifs and
the low-key, common-sense guidance Karl offers his
players” said music critic Howard Mandel. Conducted in
Karl’s inimitable style, developed at the legendary
Creative Music Studio, this orchestra of extraordinary
improvisers explores original themes, melodies from the
world’s folk traditions and compositions written by the
likes of Don Cherry or Ornette Coleman, as well as musical
ideas that arise spontaneously. One of the orchestra's
trademarks is Ingrid Sertso’s uncanny vocalization and
poetry. “I love the atmosphere that Karl and Ingrid
create. For me it’s an oasis in the middle of all these
stressful energies that the city brings.” said composer
Sonia Megias.
The rotating cast of soloists, with a solid core of regulars,
includes Warren Smith, drums, Hilliard Greene (bass), Ken
Filiano (bass), Kenny Wessel (guitar), Harvey Valdes
(guitar), John Ehlis (mandolin), Peter Apfelbaum (tenor
sax, flute), Stephen Gauci, (tenor sax), Welf Dorr, (alto
sax), Mercedes Figueras (alto sax), Thomas Heberer
(trumpet), Bob Selcoe (trumpet), special guest from
Texas), Michael Lytle (bass clarinet), Blaise Siwula
(clarinet), Sylvain Leroux (flutes), Frederika Krier (violin),
Mossa Bildner (vocals), Ingrid Sertso (vocals), and surprise
guests.
All net proceeds support the Creative Music Studio’s
Archive Project, the preservation and re-mastering of
over 400 historic CMS recordings from the 70s and 80s of
some of the finest innovators in jazz, improvisation, and
world music. The Archive Project is in collaboration with
Columbia University.

We are particularly excited about this year's screening and
reception at SOHO HOUSE on MAY 8, 2012 at 7pm, because
it will feature a film that both the Woodstock FIlm Festival
and Hudson Valley Film Commission were very involved
with.
Join host Stephen Hays of 120dB Films for a very special
presentation of PEACE, LOVE, & MISUNDERSTANDING —
which was produced by BCDF Pictures, and shot with help
from the Hudson Valley Film Commission during the
summer of 2010.
The comedy directed by Bruce Beresford (Breaker Morant,
Tender Mercies, Driving Miss Daisy) boasts a star-studded
cast including Jane Fonda, Elizabeth Olsen, Katherine
Keener, Jeffery Dean Morgan, Chase Crawford and up-andcomer Nat Wolff. The screening is courtesy of IFC Films.
Funds raised will benefit the capital campaign for
the Woodstock Film Festival and Hudson Valley Film
Commission FILM CENTER, which is in serious need of
capital support. We need to paint the building, add heat
and air conditioning in two rooms and replace the roof.
The event will include a special screening of PEACE, LOVE,
& MISUNDERSTANDING before it hits theaters on June 8.
The evening will also include a Q&A and reception with the
filmmakers along with hors d'oeuvres, wine and
complimentary cocktails from Ketel One Vodka.

BEYOND ASSIGNMENT (37 min)
Three dedicated female photojournalists covering Mexico,
Israel and South Africa demonstrate the commitment
required to access insular communities and report on
complex, underexposed and often uncomfortable issues.
BEYOND ASSIGNMENT examines the artistic and ethical
responsibilities inherent in capturing vital subject matter
and the subsequent emotional cost to journalists and their
subjects.
POETRY OF RESILIENCE (52 min)
Six poets who survived some of the worst political
atrocities of the 20th century: Hiroshima, the Holocaust,
China’s Cultural Revolution, the Kurdish Genocide in Iraq,
the Rwandan Genocide, the Iranian Revolution. By
summoning the creative voice of poetry to tell stories of
survival and witness, each reclaims humanity and dignity in
the wake of some of history’s most dehumanizing
circumstances. With grace and humor, the film explores
language as an internal means of survival — for the poet
and the readers of poems.

Friends:
My partner, Sheri Winston, is writing her next book. And
we're hoping for your support!
Support, you say? What mean you by "support?"
You can donate. We happily accept contributions of $5 or
above. It's easy to do because we're using Kickstarter, a
great crowdfunding platform. You pledge your money now
and it only is transferred to us (and leaves your account) if
we reach our goal, which is to raise $20,000 by June 1st.
You can also spread the word. Campaigns like this one
succeed because people tell people. (I've included sample
tweets and posts that you can cut and paste into your
communications.)
About the Book
As many of you know, my partner, Sheri Winston, is a
nationally known sex teacher. Her first book, Women’s
Anatomy of Arousal: Secret Maps to Buried Pleasure, won
a national prize (2010 Book of the Year, American
Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists)
because it broke new ground about female sexuality and
genital anatomy.
Now it's time for her next book. Succulent SexCraft: Your
Hands-On Guide to Erotic Play and Practice will help
people realize their full sexual potential. It integrates
Sheri's Wholistic Sexuality™ model into a practical, fun,
usable guide that will help anyone become the whole,
sexually integrated person they long to be. It’s a play and
practice guide for everyone, single or partnered, male,
female or anywhere in between, whatever their age or
orientation.
Sheri's writing the book for another reason, too. It's her
mission to help usher in a world where healthy, loving,
responsible, respectful and ecstatic sexuality is the norm
for everyone. This book is a step in that direction.
Without financial support, this book, which I'll be editing,
won’t happen. Sheri won’t have the time to write the book
—she’ll be running around teaching instead. Nor will we be
able to pay for my time, or for design and production.
Kickstart the Book and Get Great Rewards!
Kickstarter is a super-cool crowd-funding website that
provides an elegant fundraising platform for creative
projects like this one. Supporters can donate any amount
from $5 up to … (the mind boggles).
Project backers get fun rewards:
Goodies worth more than the value of their
donation. Check out the rewards on the project page!
'Inner circle’ backer-only updates about the campaign
The satisfaction of knowing they’re helping to birth
this book and that they’re a vital part of the growing
"sex-positive" community!
Visit Sheri's book project at Kickstarter to learn more!
All or Nothing Funding
To actually receive these pledges, we need to reach our
funding target of $20,000 by June 1st or we get nothing.
That’s right—if we don't reach our minimum funding goal
before the campaign ends, we don’t get a penny. (People
become a backer as soon as they commit, but their pledge
becomes an actual donation -- and leaves their account -only after the goal is reached.)
How You Can Support This Project
You can contribute money—and thank you if you do! Just
go to our Succulent Sexcraft book project page, choose
your rewards and level of support, then click the Become a
Backer button.
You can also tell your friends and community about this
project. It’s easy to do: I’ve supplied sample tweets and
posts below my sig line. You can also cut & paste from this
email. Please tell others about this campaign! If we build a
buzz, we'll reach our goal. If we don't, we won't.
The clock is ticking! Please help make this book happen!
Spead the word and visit our book project at Kickstarter.
Thanks for taking the time to consider this request. And
keep your fingers crossed for us!
Warm regards,
Carl

Hello Dear Friends,
It feels like Spring. And a busy time it is. Mission of
Mermaids, Susan Rockefeller's new film, just launched.
We've started working with a new documentary which
uniquely exploits Gwen's long-time presence in Madrid.
We taught our first workshop. And Angela just put
together our first event through Tugg, a brand-new
crowdfunding website for screening: the Dallas premiere
of Crazy Wisdom.
Please read on!
Philly & NYC
That's where Gwen was in March. We had workshops
scheduled in both places, thanks to the efforts of PIFVA
(Philadelphia Independent Film & Video Association) and
the I Can Still Do That Foundation (New York). The
workshop in Philly went very well, and even included
Angela via Skype on a big screen! We were inspired to
work with a group of talented, enthusiastic, thoughtful
filmmakers whose diversity of projects presented gave us
a rush of ideas to share with them. We all agreed that
four hours may not have been enough time. Thanks a
bunch to PIFVA for sponsoring the event, and hosting
Gwen.
In New York, we learned that location, location,
location is everything. Had we given ourselves a bit more
lead time, and asked a few more questions, we would
have secured a venue that NYC filmmakers feel more
comfortable about. Our workshop became a private
consultation, but that worked out fine: nothing beats
one-to-one face time. And we made some new
connections and renewed old. Special thanks to
Fernanda Rossi, the Documentary Doctor, and
distribution expert Peter Broderick for their advice!
We're definitely interested in teaching more workshops
in the future, on community engagement, grant writing,
social media. So if you know of a good venue or an
organization who might like to invite us, let us know!

(virtually) on 4.9 and had over 9 advisors in attendance on
the conference call. Discussions included a mission for the
committee and some initial projects (including future
concerts, compilations, educational panels and a directory
of services and resources). Please be in touch with Barry or
myself if you would like to join the committee.
Looking down the turnpike, we have lots of cool events
planned for the next month. In addition to the 6.11 The
Table Read/NY, we have a First Mondays/NYC planned for
5.7 at the Parlour Uptown (250 West 86th Street). As a
special treat we will be screening 2 short films by young
advisors which have been invited to Cannes later this May.
One film is by young advisor, Davi Santos, and the other by
young advisor Ramfis Myrthil. Davi stars in his film and also
produced it. Ramfis produced his film. Its great to see our
young advisors moving up.
If you are interested in mentoring a young advisor or
hiring one for there summer, please email me
(dan@firstmondays.com). Meaningful summer jobs are still
very hard to find and are key to future success for a young
person. Give the gift of knowledge. Help retrain Americans
and put America back to work, one job at a time.
We are also trying to organize our next Women Who
Lunch/NYC. Please email me to dan@firstmondays.com if
you are interested in volunteering for this or any of our
other events.
April showers, may come your way.... but you know what
they bring in May..
Keep swinging,
Dan
