The Family of Our Lady of Loretto
The Family of Our Lady of Loretto 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time September 6, 2015 OUR LADY OF LORETTO • HOMETOWN - OAK LAWN Page 2 God Won’t Ask Dear Parish Family, As we celebrate Labor Day, I remember that, as a child, we never started school before this day of celebration. Now school has already started, in fact, for most of the students in the middle of August. But there is so much more to learn and do. And there is so much for us, as disciples and pupils of Christ, to learn and do. Our laboring for the Lord continues; because God is not finished with creation. Through our labors, and guided by the Spirit, the Lord continues to bring creation to completion. He continues to build his kingdom on earth through us. God is not finished with us either. Through Jesus, our Savior, God labors to make us holy reflections and images of Christ’s goodness and holiness. This work of the Lord, as the saying goes, “is a labor of love.” It is a labor in which we all have been chosen to participate. It is not always easy to work to form ourselves and others into images of Christ. But we believe this work, of building up the kingdom, is the foundation and reason for all of our other work and labor. Thank you for all your labors here at Our Lady of Loretto. Only through your sacrifice and hard work, are we able to fulfill our mission to bring the good news of Christ to our families and friends. That good news is that Christ makes a difference in our lives, because your willingness to labor for the Lord makes a difference. Only when we first take care of each other’s earthly needs, can we bring the love of the Lord into the lives of our families and neighbors. God won’t ask what kind of car you drove. He’ll ask how many people you drove who didn’t have transportation. God won’t ask the square footage of your house. He’ll ask how many people you welcomed into your home. God won’t ask about the clothes in your closet. He’ll ask how many you helped to clothe. God won’t ask what your highest salary was. He’ll ask if you compromised your character to obtain it. God won’t ask what you job title was. He’ll ask if you performed your job to the best of your ability. God won’t ask how many friends you had. He’ll ask how many people to whom you were a friend. God won’t ask in what neighborhood you lived. He’ll ask how you treated your neighbors. God won’t ask about the color of your skin. He’ll ask about the content of your character. God won’t ask why it took you so long to seek salvation. He’ll lovingly take you to your mansion in heaven, and not to the gates of hell. Sincerely, Fr. Tom “ A truly American sentiment recognizes the dignity of labor and the fact that honor lies in honest toil. “ Grover Cleveland SUNDAY • SEPTEMBER 6, 2015 Page 3 News and notes Grand raffle 2015 500 Club Drawing The next Early Bird drawing for $250 is September 13th.
