Salute to Business Awards Celebration Held Oct. 29
On Wednesday, October 29, the Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 28th Annual Salute to Business and
Industry Awards Dinner sponsored by Inspira Health Network at Centerton Country Club in Pittsgrove Township. Century
Savings Bank was the dessert sponsor. The evening featured business awards being presented to Bridgeton Christian School,
Rutgers Food Innovation Center, Let’s Do Linens, Inc., First National Bank of Elmer and Papco Transportation / Crestwood.
The Gary F. Simmerman Community Leadership Award was given to the Bridgeton Code Blue Program and its leaders
in recognition of outstanding community leadership and service through the program that helps those without homes in
dangerously cold weather. The recipient of the Chamber’s prestigious Francis “Binks” Sharp Lifetime Achievement Award
was Carol Musso for extraordinary business and community leadership and service.

November Chamber Business Meeting
Century Savings Bank History Spotlighted
The Chamber held its annual membership
meeting on Nov. 14 at Centerton Country
Club and Events Center where directors and
officers for 2015 were elected and installed
and Century Savings Bank sponsored the
meeting and made the keynote presentation.
Chamber Executive Director Tony Stanzione
installed the officers and directors who
were elected and/or re-elected by the
membership. The 2015 officers will be the same
as in 2014. They are Susan Jones of Print Signs

Riley of Ultra Clean Technologies, First Vice

Kim Wood thanked Century Savings Bank for
providing the most in financial and volunteer
service contributions to the Chamber in 2014
and introduced David Hemple.
David Hemple, President and CEO of
Century Savings Bank, spoke to the Chamber
highlighting the nearly 150 year history of
the bank. He noted that both the City of
Bridgeton and Century Savings Bank will be
celebrating 150 years of incorporation in 2015.
He hoped that the City and the bank would
celebrate together in some way in 2015.
One of the other building blocks of Century
Savings Bank is a board of directors made
up of local business and community leaders
whose focus is the success of the bank and
the sound growth and development of the
communities it serves.
In 2015, the steady growth will continue with
the construction of a new operations center
bringing its dispersed operations locations
together in one building. 2015 will also be a
year of celebration and spreading the word
about Century Savings Bank’s success and
services as several events are being planned
to highlight its 150th anniversary.

On Oct. 29 at the Chamber’s Awards Dinner the
Chamber sponsored impact movie that has been about
two years in production, was shown publicly for the first
time. Bruce Riley, Chair of the Impact Movie Committee,
introduced the movie, explained how it will be used
and thanked all the participants and the producer Keith
Wasserman of Shot the Moon Productions. For 8 minutes,
the awards came to a stop and over 200 people saw a
positive presentation about their area that will hopefully
attract new business, new tax revenue and new jobs
to the Bridgeton area and the towns served by the
Chamber and Cumberland Development Corporation.
The movie ends with local banker Bill Whelan saying
“and that’s the magic of Cumberland County.”
Bruce Riley introduced Impact Movie.
Bruce explained that another 20-30 seconds will be
added featuring the value of Cumberland County
College, the Technical Education Center and the many quality colleges within one hour of the
area. The comments of everyone who has seen the movie to date have been positive and very
encouraging he noted, including praise from the Cumberland County Board of Freeholders
who saw the movie recently at their meeting.

Chamber Foundation is Running Two Raffles
To help meet its 2014 budget, the Chamber Foundation is conducting a calendar raffle and a 50-50 raffle. Both raffles
are licensed by NJ Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission and permits have been obtained from the City of
Bridgeton. The calendar raffle sales have ended since the first 31 of 90 cash prizes were announced on Dec. 1. There will
be additional drawings for prizes in January and February 2015 for holders of the calendar raffle tickets.

gathered at Cumberland County College
to visit with business vendors, eat breakfast,
hear from growing area businesses and get
a report on the state of Cumberland County

Improvement Authority and the four County
Chambers of Commerce – Bridgeton Area,

talked of their growth in jobs, facilities and
programming. State Sen. Jeff Van Drew
highlighted efforts he is leading to improve

Park in October to mark one-year of the local
bus service known as Bridgeton Area Transit
Service. The Sykes Foundation provided grant
funding to make the service possible and
affordable. Anyone can use the fixed route,
scheduled service that operates throughout
Bridgeton and into
Upper Deerfield,
allowing residents
to have access to
affordable, reliable
local area public
transportation.

Student at CC TEC to Lead Southern
Open Soon in Bridgeton Region of New Jersey State SkillsUSA
The City of Bridgeton and Cumberland
County College will open a downtown
Bridgeton satellite campus known as
STEAMWorks, at 46-50 E. Commerce Street
in the coming weeks. Featuring everything
from 3-D printers and Programmable Logic
Controllers (PLC’s), to Computer Aided
Drafting software (AutoCAD), robotics,
Computer Aided Machining, (mechatronics),
and a recording studio; the makerspace
project is the fruit of a partnership
between Cumberland County College,
City of Bridgeton, and the Cumberland
Empowerment Zone. According to Bridgeton Mayor Albert Kelly, STEAMWorks
(which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), promises to
provide county residents, students, and businesses with a facility and the training
necessary to allow them to compete in a technology-driven job market.
Along with the specific college classes slated to happen at STEAMWorks, the
facility will be open to the general public through memberships, and once a
person has been trained on the use of the equipment, they can create almost
anything on the 3-D printers that will be a mainstay of the facility. For the musicallyminded, the College will also conduct classes in audio-engineering through a
fully stocked recording studio, and when classes are not in session, musicians will
be able to book studio time and the engineering needed for making demos and

to announce that Austin Giovinazzi was elected as the
Southern Region President. Austin is a senior 2nd year student
in our Electrical Program which is under the direction of Ms.
Susan Helsel. Austin, has been administered the Oath of
Office and will start his duties as the Southern Region President
immediately. He is scheduled to attend “New Officers Training”
on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Somerset County Technical
Education Center located in Northern New Jersey. Mr.
Giovinazzi, is looking forward to working with the southern region SkillsUSA members
to continue to build and facilitate a team concept that will produce a dedicated,
well trained workforce for our region. His Instructor Ms. Helsel, describes Austin
as, a focused and dedicated young man who possesses leadership qualities
