Shortly after, Janet met Cliff Segasture moonlighting from his full-time Union Electric position while playing his piano at a local bar. Soon after they married and began making their own beautiful music together. They moved to the country in Harvester MO where they lived for 38 years raising their family of two children. During this time, Janet worked as a school bus driver for the Francis Howell District. Harley Knop was born in Campbell Hill Illinois and had already married his hometown sweetheart, Josephine when he enlisted in the US Army. As a paratrooper for the 101st Airbourne, Harley served in Munich, Berlin and Austria making 16 “jumps” behind enemy lines. After his discharge, the Knops moved to Bellefontaine Neighbors to raise their family (also consisting of two children) while Harley found a job with Viking Steel building steel erections for schools and warehouses. In 2006 when both were widowed and looking to downsize, Janet and Harley met as neighbors & “charter tenants” of the newly constructed Holy Angels II Apartments. A special friendship soon developed when they discovered they had much in common including their strong Lutheran faith and a love of travel but especially a strong desire to help others. They now work as a team developing & collecting a monthly in-house food drive they donate to local food pantries as well as a newspaper recycling program for Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Janet quilts and sews lap robes for the Veterans Administration (VA) and the two have even built dollhouses which are donated to the children of Rankin Jordan. Harley even made an “18 wheeler” out of 4000 matchsticks for their cause. In their spare time, Janet likes to garden while Harley is still an avid golfer and the two are happy to have traveled extensively to Yellowstone, Alaska, the Panama Canal & a river raft ride along the Snake River. MANY THANKS TO JANET & HARLEY!!
