At the time of his death, Mike was a member of the Chamber Board of Directors and its Treasurer. He happily and proudly reported that thanks to the leadership of immediate past president Dr. Ken Ender and the Board, other administrators, staff and the Board of Freeholders, the college is doing very well. “We have a healthy student enrollment, quality academic programs and even in these tough times, our finances and facilities are in good condition,” Isekenegbe reported. He added that the college had its highest enrollment in its history in 2009 with 4,014 students, up 5% from the previous year, including a dramatic increase in full-time students, up 9.9% from the previous year. Mayor James Begley and City Councilman Nick Salvatore represented the Begley Slate of Candidates and City Council President Albert Kelly and council candidate Mike Zapolski represented the Kelly Slate of candidates. Independent council candidate Mike Lopez also spoke to the Chamber. Mayor Begley and his slate highlighted plans for redevelopment downtown, safety and security in apartment complexes, better treatment and services for senior citizens and citywide transit system. City Council President Albert Kelly, who is running for Mayor and his slate of candidates highlighted their plans to create progress for Bridgeton by forming and strengthening partnerships with the people of Bridgeton, area civic groups, area municipalities, the County and the State. On May 11, the voters of Bridgeton, by a substantial majority, elected Albert Kelly for Mayor and his entire slate was elected to City Council including Councilwoman Lugardo, City Councilmen Bill Spence and Dennis Thompson, Jack Surrency and Mike Zapolski. The Chamber congratulates and offers its cooperation and assistance as the new officials take office in July. The Chamber also extends its thanks to outgoing Mayor James Begley and Councilman Nick Salvatore for their years of service to the city and their cooperation with the Chamber. The cards include valuable discounts which more than pay for the cost of the card in one or two purchases and the cards are good until the end of May 2011. “We put together the card to promote buying from local merchants and to raise some funds for the Chamber,” said Harris. The event raises money to support the chamber’s operations and mission. The Chamber thanks the many sponsors, especially our main tournament sponsor, P. Austin Insurance Agency / State Farm Insurance, for their contributions and everyone who helped make the tournament a success. At the awards dinner, the Chamber took a few moments to memorialize the late Mike Fralinger and Charlie Patitucci for their service to the Chamber and the community. Some of the proceeds from the putting contest at the tournament were donated to charities of the family’s choice. Winners in A division were Farm Credit East, Radio Shack and P. Austin Insurance Agency. Winners in B division were Robert Patitucci, MD, Dominion Title Services and Gregory Facemyer, CPA. The longest drive prize went to Jacqueline Bray, straightest drive to Joe Blandino and closest to the pin prize went to John Trainer, Evan Fogg, Doug Carll and Ted Propert. It will feature Jersey Fresh produce (fruits and vegetables), plants and flowers along with a variety of great foods, crafts, entertainment and more. The Market is set for each Friday from June 18 through August 27, 10 AM to 2 PM. This year will feature two evening markets on Friday, July 16 and August 20 from 5PM to 7PM and a Saturday morning market on August 28 from 10AM to 2PM, as part of the Cohansey RiverFest. New Festival – “Cohansey RiverFest” To Make Debut on August 28 Bridgeton Main Street Association and Chamber to Team Up to Present Crab and Beer Garden With the impetus of the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission, several area civic, educational, cultural and environmental organizations are working together to create a new special event named the Cohansey RiverFest. The festival will include multiple events and activities spread throughout towns located along the Cohansey including Bridgeton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Hopewell and Upper Deerfield. “Celebrate, discover, connect and protect” is the theme for the celebration. Events will be held from Sunset Lake where three municipalities share borders on the lake that is part of the Cohansey River, in Bridgeton’s City Park, including the Cohanzick Zoo and the raceway, in downtown Bridgeton at the Bridgeton Library, Gallery 50 Gallery, the riverfront on the Cohansey River, at Eagle Point in Fairfield Township, Dutch Neck Village in Hopewell and in Greenwich. Food, boating, environmental education, children’s fun, art and crafts exhibits, fishing and sporting events, movies, dancing, concerts, tours and shopping will highlight the event as it strives to bring thousands of area residents and visitors together with the Cohansey River as its centerpiece. The Bridgeton Area Chamber of Commerce and Bridgeton Main Street Association will host a Crab and Beer Garden featuring crabs made by the Marino family and live musical entertainment on the riverfront in downtown Bridgeton. Freeholder Director Magazzu explained the detailed, deliberate and open budget making process that has been followed this year.
