“Gratitude Relieves Stress: Breathe, Think and Thank!”
Presented by: Lillian Zarzar, MA, CSP (Certified Speaking Professional)
Do you find yourself becoming stressed during the holidays? Are you dreading the dinners
with the meddling in-laws, the criticizing sibling, the challenging child? The most difficult
are your greatest teachers! Come and find out how you can learn from them as you are
grateful for the lessons they bring you.
Lillian Zarzar is an adjunct faculty at Ohio University regional campuses in Pickerington and Lancaster
teaching courses in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Relations, Interviewing Skills and Techniques of Small
Group Discussion. She is also an instructor for The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business and the
John Glenn School of Public Affairs.
Zarzar is a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) the highest earned designation conferred by the National
Speakers Association (NSA) and the International Federation of Professional Speakers (fewer than 300
women in the world hold this designation). She is past president of the NSA-Ohio chapter and current
member of the association.
She is also a Trained Demartini Method® Facilitator with the Demartini Institute in Texas, a private
research, education and service institution dedicated to the development of human awareness and
potential. Her undergraduate degree (BSJ) in Radio-TV News Journalism is from Ohio University and
Masters (MA) is in Speech Communication from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Zarzar’s insights and understanding of human behavior contribute to the success teams have
achieved through participation in her highly interactive and thought-provoking team-building
approach. Participants are inspired to achieve their highest potential with a plan, a renewed focus
and an appreciation for their lives.
Lillian Zarzar has been quoted in Self Magazine, highlighted in Columbus Business First and appeared
on Fox 8 Good Day Columbus. She is the author of several books, her latest being Conversations on

T
he Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce ad sales for the 2015-2016
Membership Directory & Business Resource Guide have begun. And, we’ve kept advertising
rates the same as the 2013-2014 publication making it affordable for every member!
Many people turn to the Chamber Directory to locate the best and most accessible companies
in the area. With a 2 year shelf life, the Directory will provide a colorful showcase for the
business community that is rich with community resource and business information consumers
use throughout the year.
Professionally designed, the publication will feature extensive four-color, coated stock with highend graphics and magazine style layouts. There will be a classified section that includes 2 listings
for every member. And, 3,000 copies will be strategically distributed to high traffic areas in the
Gahanna area and beyond.

The combination of high advertising value at affordable rates creates a marketing piece that will
give your business years of exposure and returns. From a study commissioned by the American
Chamber of Commerce Executives, when consumers know a business is a member of their local
Chamber, they are 68% more likely to think positively of its reputation and 80% more likely to buy
goods and services from the business.
Treasurer: Scott Robinson

Growing up in a family with a strong
work ethic, Doug Secrest has always
been driven to serve the public.
Through many years of experience,
Secrest has found the perfect formula
for success, having a great team and
providing top-notch customer service.
These are just a few of the things that
have allowed Secrest and his business,
Ohio Basement Authority, to be the
best basement waterproofing, crawl
space repair, and foundation repair business in Ohio.
The evolving business continues to celebrate success, and recently relocated to a larger
facility that will help accommodate its growth and customers’ needs. Ohio Basement
Authority is now located at 911 Stelzer Road, near Port Columbus International Airport.
“We outgrew our former building,” Secrest said. “This new building is a perfect fit. It is
more centrally located, and it allows us to grow and fine-tune the systems we have in
place. We have more space, and a conference room that will allow us to hold additional
hands-on training for our staff.”
Expressions Floral Design Studio, 1319 Stoneridge Dr. located in Stoneridge Plaza is
introducing Floral Design Classes for every Season! Spend some fun time being creative
with friends and join us for a hands-on floral design class. We will start off each class
with time to mingle, taste some wine and light appetizers, then off to the design tables.
During class we will cover how to select and care for your flowers, basic design principles
and the techniques needed to create your very own floral masterpiece.
Each class will include all flowers, foliage, foam, container and other materials and use
of clippers, scissors or other tools during the lesson. Feel free to bring your own tools if
you prefer. Class size is limited so call 614.858.0444 or visit www.expressionsfloraldesign.

Business Growth Workshop
Presented by:
Sponsor:
Debra Mathias, Best Courier, presented “Networking with
LinkedIn,” with detailed explanations on how and why you
should use LinkedIn to help you grow your business.
Social Security Announces
1.7 Percent Benefit
Increase for 2015
State Representative Anne Gonzales discussed what
the state is doing for women now, and pending legislation
that will make women’s lives easier.
Meet & Greet
M
onthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income
(SSI) benefits for nearly 64 million Americans will increase
1.7 percent in 2015, the Social Security Administration announced
recently.
The 1.7 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will begin with
benefits that more than 58 million Social Security beneficiaries
receive in January 2015. Increased payments to more than 8
million SSI beneficiaries will begin on December 31, 2014. The Social
Security Act ties the annual COLA to the increase in the Consumer
Price Index as determined by the Department of Labor’s Bureau of
Labor Statistics.
Some other changes that take effect in January of each year are
based on the increase in average wages. Based on that increase,
the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security
tax (taxable maximum) will increase to $118,500 from $117,000.
Of the estimated 168 million workers who will pay Social Security
taxes in 2015, about 10 million will pay higher taxes because of the
increase in the taxable maximum.
Emanuel Torres, City of Gahanna Planning & Development,
gave helpful hints on some of the innovative and time
efficient mobile/social medial techniques one can utilize
when attending networking events. His presentation was
followed by Speed Networking.
4
Information about Medicare changes for 2015 is available at
www.Medicare.gov.
The Social Security Act provides for how the COLA is calculated.

re you rethinking your company’s benefit offerings
for the upcoming year? If so, we encourage you to ask
your broker for a quote on health, dental, vision, disability,
EAP and/or life insurance from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue
Shield.
It just makes good sense to provide coverage that helps
protect both your company and your employees from the
rising costs of health care.
With Anthem, you can rest assured that you and your employees

guide you to a plan that helps protect both your employees
and your company. Be sure to tell your broker that you’re
a Gahanna Chamber member to save 1.4% on your health
insurance premiums. And ask about special Chamber member
