Broad St. 43213 Guest Speakers: Gail Kelly, Owner & Founder, Two Men And A Truck Nellie Krumlauf, Founder, Nellie’s Catwalk For Kids Vice Chairman of Business Development: Ron Smith SOH Productions Vice Chairwoman of Membership Engagement: Betty Clark CPMedia & Marketing Treasurer: Scott Robinson WesBanco Secretary: Kandace Watkins Bercley Woods Director: Mary S. Held Mary Held & Associates Brought to you by: Gail and John Kelley were looking for a career change when they read an article about the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK moving company. They scheduled a meeting with company founder Mary Ellen Sheets and began to plan a move of their own. The couple, then living in Detroit while working as regional managers for an electronics retailer, wanted to relocate to Columbus. They decided to job hunt in the Ohio capital until one of them found a job. The other would start a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchise. When John landed a job, Gail started the business in 1993 with two 30-foot trucks. They had a good feeling about the industry because unlike electronics—which tend to be a luxury—people need help moving, she says. “We really wanted to get into something people need,” she says. “The average person moves seven times.” Roy Holcombe Director: RevLocal Director: Laurie Jadwin Gahanna Convention & Visitors Bureau Director: Terri Loughry Loughry Insurance Services Sponsor: She attributes the early success of the company to her focus on marketing and operations. As a petite woman, she wasn’t much help to her employees in the field. The ability to concentrate on growing the business made a huge difference, says Gail, who adds business owners sometimes allow day-to-day tasks distract them from important operations. “They’re working in the business—not on it,” says Gail, who wishes she and her husband would have started the business earlier in her career. The couple has grown the business into one of the five largest franchises in the country with revenue of $6.4 million in 2013. They have a fleet of 33 trucks, five vans and 150 employees. The company provides moving services throughout Franklin County and the contiguous counties. As a 2013 graduate of Ohio Dominican University, Nellie is focusing 365 days a year to grow the NC4K brand so it can continue to support families in need. Nellie Krumlauf is the 2012 AFP Young Philanthropist of the Year, Jefferson Award Nominee 2011, and NC4K received the Key Bank Achievement Award in 2011. Corporate sponsors that support NC4K include: The Columbus Dispatch, Big Lots, Roush Honda, Huntington Bank, Key Bank, and The Columbus Zoo. NC4K encompasses kids and teens looking to make a difference. The yearly signature fundraiser inspires children to give back in a fun and family-friendly fashion show that 5,000 guests come out to see. NC4K provides financial help to families, and they strive to offer emotional assistance, too! NC4K understands when the medical bills seem to be coming in non-stop and are there to help. NC4K takes pride in their work to help the entire family. They work to create a balance of support for brothers, sisters, moms, dads, guardians and most importantly, the child or teen battling cancer. Ultimately NC4K wants to be the organization cancer families turn to for help but more importantly for hope! For registration and event details go to GahannaAreaChamber.com/Events. Private employers should be in receipt of their Estimate of Premium Notice from BWC which is for the first prospective billing period which covers July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016. To prevent employers from being “double-billed”, BWC will help to limit the financial impact to employers during the transition by applying both a payroll transition credit and a prospective transition credit. The payroll transition credit will be for the last reporting period of the retrospective billing era (January 1, 2015 through June 30, 2015). Employers will receive a 100% credit towards this premium payment due in August. The prospective transition credit will assist in your transition to the prospective billing era. The credit equates to 1/6th of the billed premium for the July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016 period. To receive the credit, however, your policy must be current which means that you have done the following: 1. Paid all outstanding premium, late fees and penalties for past due premium (or request a payment plan from BWC for any amount that cannot be paid) prior to July 1, 2015 2. Filed your January 1, 2015 – June 30, 2015 payroll report prior to August 31, 2015 110 N. Hamilton Rd., Gahanna 43230 (614) 235-2395 Kemba.org Visit Their Newest Branch, Now Open in Gahanna! Issue: July 17 ANTHEM BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD 5 Myths about the Affordable Care Act for Midsize Businesses Many businesses are struggling to understand and comply with the rules of the Affordable Care Act (ACA or health care reform law). To help them, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have a number of helpful resources at www.makinghealthcarereformwork.com, like this article that dispels five common myths about the ACA for companies with between 51 and 99 employees. • Myth #1: Our business is exempt from the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate. Companies with more than 100 full-time employees must provide health insurance to full-time workers starting this year. In 2016, companies with 51-99 full-time workers also will have to provide coverage. • Myth #2: Most businesses of our size don’t provide health insurance. The ACA requires midsize employers to change their existing coverage. But only a small percentage will be offering coverage for the first time. • Myth #4: We can continue to offer a limited benefit or minimed plan. Limited benefit plans do not meet ACA rules, so you’ll need to upgrade coverage to meet the employer mandate. • Myth #5: We will have to buy our insurance from a government website. The Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) is the online health insurance marketplace, or exchange, for businesses. But using the exchange is optional. Employers can buy directly from an insurance company or use a broker at no extra cost. • Myth #3: Even if we are penalized for not providing coverage, we can deduct the penalty on our income taxes. Companies that fail to comply with the employer mandate are subject to a penalty. But the mandate is set up as a shared responsibility fee. This makes the penalty a tax that cannot be deducted for federal income tax purposes. Chamber 2+2 Program This program shares rebates with the Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce when you do your business supply shopping with Friends Business Source. A 2% rebate comes to your business and a 2% rebate goes to GACC to support local services and growth. For more information, please contact your Friends Business Source Account Manager.
