Brought to you by: Enrollment Underway for Workers’ Comp Premium Discount Program October 2015 Deadline for EMV Liability Shift General Membership Luncheon Meet & Greet Networking Members Making News Business Development Opportunities Welcome New Members Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies Understanding & Owning Your Power October 22, 2015 • 7:30 to 9:00 AM Mount Carmel Siegel Center, 6001 E. Broad St., Columbus 43213 Sponsors: Presented by: Yvette McGee Brown Partner JONES DAY® One Firm WorldwideSM “Understanding and owning your power” Too many of us place limits on ourselves, consciously or unconsciously. We think “I can’t do that” or “I don’t have the right connections to make this happen.” The reality is we all have the power to create the future we want. It’s hard; it requires focus, networking, discipline and risk. Change and growth can be incremental, all building to the biggest opportunity. The reality is this, talent always rises and there are no shortcuts to success. Success comes to those who are willing to put themselves out there, to dare to be different; to take a risk. Like a duck - calm on the surface but pedaling furiously underneath. To register for this meeting go to: GahannaAreaChamber.com/Events. In contrast to the 2014/2015 policy years, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) will not be issuing transition credits for the 2016 policy year that went to assist employers with the prospective billing implementation. This makes it more important than ever to find your best options for savings today! If you are reviewing savings quotes from other group administrators, please make sure that you are examining them thoroughly to ensure that you are comparing similar discounts and service offerings. This important decision affects how much you pay in workers’ compensation premiums, as well as who will be handling any claims incurred by your injured employees. We encourage you to explore your best program option with a CompManagement representative to see how your organization can realize your maximum savings for 2016. Please contact CompManagement at (800) 825-6755, select option 3 and speak to a customer support representative as soon as possible. Currently these cards include both the traditional magnetic strip and new chip for payment processing, but all merchants still need to upgrade their POS systems to read the new chip component. Why? Well, today October 1, 2015 marks the deadline for EMV liability shift -- meaning that the liability for card-present fraud will shift to the party who is least EMV-compliant. So if a chip enabled card is used fraudulently at your business, but you don’t have an upgraded POS system to read that card, that leaves you – not the bank – responsible for the incurred costs. To avoid this risk and to show customers that you are serious about their fraud protection, retailers, merchants and restaurants alike must upgrade POS hardware to be EMV-compatible. The cost for a new EMV payment terminal can range from $15-$500 depending on the model; a small price to pay to protect your business from fraud liability. Part two of an informative meeting held in May that identified efforts designed to guide development over the next 5 years, the Economic Development Plan - The Executive Summary shared strategic goals and marketing objectives. The purpose of this strategy is to identify the community’s economic potential to attract and retain high quality businesses and development in the City. The strategy outlines actionable goals and tactics that help to strengthen the economic vitality of Gahanna and is intended to serve as a guide for policymakers, community stakeholders, local businesses and future investors.
