Vol. 34 No. 3
It is official! Our installation has come and gone. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support we have received since our work began. Our congregation is blessed to have wonderful and talented people who are willing to work hard. Thank you for answering the call. God is not done with you yet. We still need your service. This congregation will not make it without you. I am prayerfully asking you to volunteer your time and resources to enhance the work of this ministry together. I hope you consider. Over the next few weeks and months we want to highlight the values of the family within this congregation. I be lieve God called the family first before establishing his church. In the Genesis account we are told on the sixth day God created male and female in his image and likeness (Genesis 1: 27). The values of the family are vital to the growth and spiritual wellbeing of this congregation. God loves the family so much that he established a union with the family to be fruitful and multiply. This is why it is important for us as a congregation to look up to the family to carry on the great commission, “Go and make disciples...” (Matthew 28:19). Every family is important to this congregation and we recognize it. There is no doubt that there is a direct correla tion between the family and the church. Many times we consider the church to be the building, but it is not. The church is the family. Through Christ the family comes to the baptismal fount, through Christ the family comes to Holy Communion, and through Christ the family gathers in celebration of God’s blessings in their lives. The only reason why we have people in the pews on Sunday morning is because the family is present on Sunday morning. If the family does not show up on Sunday morning or Wednesday night, there will be no congregational gathering. Our congregation is what it is because of what our family is. A healthy God fearing family creates a healthy God fearing congregation. I am sure you will agree with me that we must maintain a healthy God fearing congregation. I think we can; only if we are willing to surrender our family to God and allow Him to do the pruning. Join me as your pastor, families of Grace, for prayers, bible study and fellowship to discipline, cultivate, and surren der our families to God in order to be the congregation God wants us to be. Every family is invited to a weekly Wednesday night bible study at 7:30 p.m. beginning April 3 rd . Also in the next few weeks every family will be called upon to join in a time of prayers and fellowship. You are important and you will be noticed. I am strongly praying about this and I hope you join me in prayers. Psalm 128:14 says, “Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.” Your Pastor, Henrique Fleming

Baby’s First Easter retold by Rachel Elliot Easter in the Garden by Pamela Kennedy WORSHIP AND MUSIC COMMITTEE Grace Lutheran Church February 4, 2013 The Worship and Music Committee met at 6:00 pm with the following members present: Cindy Milek, Tim Patmore, Pastor Fleming, and Char Wilson. Members absent were Bob Grams, Candy McKay, Marcia Potts, Roxie Chowen, Deb Enright, Tammy Jones, and Tricia Nelson. Service settings were selected for the month of March as follows: Mar. 3 Setting 10; Mar. 10 – Setting 8; Mar. 17 Setting 10; Mar. 24 (Palm Sunday) – Remembering the Promise, and Mar 31 (Resurrection Sunday) – Setting 10. We will review additional settings for possible use in future months. Lenten services with the Presbyterian Church were discussed. Char will look into getting a free Public Service Announcement on KSLT radio station to publicize this joint venture. Services will be as follows: (1) separate Ash Wednesday services on February 13; (2) alternating church locations for the combined Lenten services on Wednesdays with Soup Supper at 5:30 pm and service at 6:30 pm beginning at Grace Lutheran February 20 through March 20; (3) the last combined Lenten service be will on Maundy Thursday March 28 at the Presbyterian Church (no services Wednesday, March 27); and (4) each church will have individual Good Friday services. Tim will check to see if the youth will present the Reverse Advent service on Good Friday as in past years. Easter Sunday services at Grace will be at 6:30 and 9:00 am. Pastor will check with the youth groups to see if they will prepare and serve breakfast between the services as they have done in previous years. Coffee and cookies only will be served at 10:00 am following the second service. We discussed the possibility of changing the height of the projector screen to make it more visible from all areas of the sanctuary. Since the adjustment mechanism is on the end of the screen, we will wait until scaffolding is in place to clean the mural so we can safely ac cess the screen. Hopefully the mural will be cleaned prior to Easter. Several congregation members have requested that we incorporate into worship some of the older hymns that many of us grew up with (i.e., Sweet Hour of Prayer, Old Rugged Cross, etc.). These older hymns are a major part of our Lutheran heritage and bring back won derful memories for many. Pastor will select older hymns whenever they are complementary to the lessons/gospel/sermon for the day. We will try to use at least one older hymn each month, possibly more. A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who assisted with undecorating the sanctuary following the service January 13. With so many willing hands, we were done by 10:20 am!! Great team work! The meeting adjourned with prayer by Pastor Fleming. Next meeting: March 4, 2013 Char Wilson, Council Representative

Well I have finished my treatments now and I’m so “thankful” for that, the good roads I had traveling to Rapid City everyday and all those keeping me in their prayers. I know the Lord is “Faithful” in all things and he would see me through this ordeal. God Bless you all.
