WICOMICO COUNTY FAIR
2015
It was in early 2015 when the Wicomico Farm and Home Show and the
Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce decided to join forces to create
the Wicomico County Fair. With the Farm & Home Show looking to attract and educate a broader audience at their event and SACC holding the
naming rights to the Delmarva Chicken Festival, there was not a more
perfect pairing that would promote agriculture in Wicomico County and
more specifically, the poultry industry. By developing the partnership,
the groups are able to continue long-standing traditions that have a
combined 143 year history.

The Wicomico County Fair welcomes and is open to all without regard to County
or State of Residence.
Junior exhibitors must be 8 years old by January 1, 2015 and have not reached
their 19th birthday by January 1, 2015. Please state age on the Junior entry
blank.
Premium lists and pre-registration entry blanks are available online at
www.wicomicofair.com. Register online or mail to WFHS,
P.O. Box 493, Salisbury, Md. 21803 by August 1, 2015. Online registration is date
stamped and mailed entries must be postmarked no later than August 1, 2015.
All articles for exhibit, excluding livestock, rabbits and poultry, must be placed
between 4 - 8 PM. on Wednesday (Aug. 12th). All items must be in place by 8:00
p.m. the doors to the Carriage House will be closed at 8:30 p.m.
Livestock, Rabbits and Poultry are to be entered Wednesday, August 12th and
Thursday, August 13th from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. and must be in place by noon,
Friday August 14th.
Every Article exhibited shall be under the control of the chairperson of the department
in which it is exhibited.
During the judging of indoor entries, the carriage house will be closed to entrants and
spectators. Only judges, directors and department chairmen will be permitted to enter.
No exhibitor will be allowed to remove any article from the grounds until after the
awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. Early removal of items will result in forfeiture
of premiums.
The judges will award only such premiums as they think proper whether there be
competition or not. ALL JUDGE’S DECISIONS ARE FINAL. In the event that
there is only one entry in a class, the placing shall depend upon the merit of that entry
& the award made at the discretion of the judges. If ribbons are awarded, only one
1st, only one 2nd, and/or only one 3rd will be given per class.
Articles to be exhibited must be in the container specified by the premium list.
“Miscellaneous” items must not meet the criteria of any other class of the department
and must be identified on the entry form as to what they are.
All exhibits to be displayed, other than livestock, must have been grown or made
by the exhibitor and not entered in any other PREVIOUS FARM & HOME
SHOW. Separate entry blanks must be used by adult & junior classes & 4-H
members in all divisions. Entry forms must have a complete 911 address and
correct phone number.
Every effort will be made to protect all entries while in the custody of the Fair
committee, the Fair committee disclaims any responsibility for loss or damage to
property or person.
No person may enter more than 1 item per class except in livestock, poultry &
rabbit classes.
Under no circumstances will any entry be accepted from persons judging that dept.
Articles left after the show closes, please contact the current President and make
arrangements for pick-up. After October 1st, articles become the property of the
Wicomico County Fair.
All premium checks must be cashed within 60 days of issue date. All 4-H
members from Wicomico County and other counties enter in the Jr. Dept.
Any changes or exceptions to pre-registered entries, must be pre-approved by
current President.

4-H, JUNIOR AND ADULT TROPHIES
The scoring system for these trophies will be as follows: Each blue placing will
score 3 points, red 2 points; and white 1 point, with the exception of large
livestock. Their placing will be scored 6, 4, and 2. All exhibits must be made or
grown by exhibitor since the last Farm & Home Show, except livestock. The
eligibility of all exhibits will be at the discretion of the Wicomico County Fair
Board.
THE LEWIS R. RILEY TROPHY
Lewis R. Riley, a former 4-H member, offers an engraved trophy to a Wicomico
4-H member during the Wicomico County Fair. To become entitled to this trophy,
the placing on exhibits in the Wicomico County Fair must total the highest score
of all 4-H members who have exhibited, including livestock.
HARRY S. BANKS MEMORIAL TROPHY
This trophy, donated by the Sharptown Lions Club will be awarded to the Wicomico 4-H member who receives the second highest number of points in exhibits
including livestock.
SHARPTOWN AMERICAN LEGION POST #218 TROPHY
This trophy will be awarded to the Junior Exhibitor who is not a Wicomico 4-H
member who achieves the highest total number of points in all exhibits excluding
livestock.
THE PAT COLLISON MEMORIAL TROPHY
This trophy will be presented to the Junior Exhibitor who is not a Wicomico 4-H
member who achieves the second highest total number of points in all exhibits
excluding livestock.
J. QUINTON JOHNSON MEMORIAL TROPHY
This trophy will be given in memory of Mr. Johnson, for his many years of work
with livestock. To become entitled to this trophy, entries must total the highest
score of all exhibitors in large livestock in the show.
WICOMICO COUNTY FARM BUREAU TROPHY will be awar ded to the
ADULT exhibitor who receives the highest number of points during the Wicomico
County Fair. Each blue ribbon will receive 3 points, each red 2 points, each white
1 point.
THE WAYNE V. SHAFF AGRICULTURAL TROPHY This tr ophy is given
in his honor, for the many years of service to the agricultural community. The
adult exhibitor who receives the highest number of points in Departments H-Fruits
& Nuts, I-Grains & Hay and R-Vegetables will receive this trophy.
COMMERCIAL BOOTH TROPHY:
Sponsored by: The Wicomico Farm & Home Show.
Trophy awarded to the best commercial booth displayed during the
Wicomico County Fair.

PRESIDENT’S AWARD
New this year is the President's Award. This award will be chosen by the current
President and given to a Junior and an Adult, that exhibits an entry that the current President believes is an outstanding and unique entry. Winning entries will
be given a special rosette. Best in Show winners are not eligible for the President's Award.
Welcome to our 79th Show!
Welcome to our 79th Show and what an event it will be!
This year the Wicomico Farm & Home Show is presenting the Wicomico
County Fair. We have reorganized, restructured and partnered with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce to expand the 79 year fair traditions. We
will now incorporate activities from the Chicken Festival to the long running
event.
The Officers, Board of Directors, Friends of the Show and Chamber have been
working extra hard this year to bring you a great event. We are having many of
the traditional events that our show is known for and adding lots of new fun
activities for all ages.
To better accommodate the populace, we have changed our days of operation.
The Fair opens Friday, August 14th at 2:00 p.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15th the fair opens at 10:00 a.m. and closes at 9:00 p.m. and finally
we’ll wrap up on Sunday, August 16th, opens at Noon and closes at 4:00 p.m.
following the awards ceremony.
Pre-registration deadline for all exhibits (indoor and livestock) is still August
1st. Indoor entries will be accepted on Wednesday, August 12th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.. Livestock entries will be accepted Wednesday, August 12th and
Thursday, August 13th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.. Judging of entries will be
held on Thursday, August 13th. The carriage house will be closed to the public
during judging of entries. The Fair will open to the public on Friday, August
14th at 2:00 p.m..
I would like to personally thank the Officers, Board of Directors, Friends of the
Show and the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce for their diligence, cooperation and hard work. We plan to have a great event! Also, a big thank you,
to all the Chairmen, Department Chairmen, volunteers and people that work
behind the scenes to make this event successful.

GENERAL RULES
1. All exhibits entered for competition must be entered in the name of the maker.
2. Any entry made from a commercial mix may not be exhibited and will be disqualified, with the
exception of class #20, enhanced cake mix. Enhanced cake mix cakes must have recipe
attached.
3. All baked goods become property of the show. Each baked good is subject to auction/sale with
proceeds going to the show. A sample of each baked good will be kept for display.
4. A refrigerated case is provided for all perishable items. All items must be entered on
Wednesday night and nothing will be accepted on Thursday morning.
5. All entries must be on disposable plates or trays. Glass containers may be donated with baked
good.
6. Juniors will be judged in two age groups, 8-12 and 13-18.
7. All miscellaneous items, items #9, #15, #19, #29, #34, #55, #72, & #82 must be identified.
NOTE: Best Decorated Cake must be cut to be judged.

CHANGES IN AVIAN INFLUENZA TESTING REQUIREMENTS AFFECTING ALL POULTRY AT EXHIBITONS IN MARYLAND.
1) NO WATERFOWL WILL BE ALLOWED INTO FAIRS
AND SHOWS.
2) ALL POULTRY MUST BE TESTED FOR AVIAN INFLUENZA, IN
STATE AND OUT OF STATE, within 10 days prior to entry, or or iginate
directly from an NPIP Avian Influenza Clean or Monitored flock, due to the increasing threat of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, currently in the Mid-West
and Pacific United States

Dr. Charles J. Wabeck Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the best chicken or bantam exhibited by
Junior.
Perdue Farms Trophy will be awarded to the best chicken or bantam exhibited by Adult.
Best Showmanship Award is a certificate only.
All poultry entries will be judged for standard, market and production qualities with special emphasis
on those qualities which are of economic significance. Particular attention will be paid
for vigor, size, type and color. In entries made up of more than one bird, uniformity the sample
in the above characteristics will be important.
GENERAL RULES - “ USE REGULAR ENTRY FORMS”
1.
All exhibitors must comply with rules and regulations. All poultry and rabbits
must be pre-registered online at www.wicomicofair.com or by mailing entry forms to
Wicomico Farm & Home Show, P.O. Box 493, Salisbury, Md. 21803, postmarked by
August 1, 2015.
2. Please note: The requirements for an exhibition are as follows: All poultry, including
turkeys and guineas, at exhibitions shall originate from United States
Pullorum-Typhoid clean, or equivalent flocks, or shall have had a negative
Pullorum-Typhoid Test within 90 days of its movement to an exhibition if not from a
Pullorum-Typhoid Clean Flock. This information shall be documented on an NPIP Form15.
(Pullorum-Typhoid Clean Flock), NPIP Form 3-B (Flock Inspection Form) or similar
certificates which shall accompany poultry on exhibition. A junior exhibitor may
substitute a statement signed by a Maryland Agriculture Extension Agent, or the
Maryland Department of Agriculture, indicating that exhibited poultry has originated
from a U.S. Pullorum-Typhoid Clean Flock within the previous 12 months.
3. Growers of all broilers and roasters exhibited from a commercial flock may substitute a
statement signed by the flock supervisor that the birds originate from a Pullorum-Typhoid
Clean Flock and will be slaughtered after the exhibition.
4. All birds must be owned by the exhibitor by July15, 2015.
5. All JUNIOR exhibitors are responsible for the presentation of animals for judging unless
prior arrangements have been made with the department chairperson and appropriate
show attire of khaki & white must be worn.
6. Exhibitors are responsible for providing food & water for their animals.
7. All poultry exhibited must be in good health.
8. The Farm & Home Show will make every effort to take good care of exhibited poultry
but will not be responsible for any losses.
9. In poultry we have a limited number of coops, so please get your entries in early if you
wish to have coops for your birds.
10. Exhibitors are limited to entering a total of 10 birds. There may be no more than 2 entries
per class.
11. Exhibitors are responsible for providing food and water for their animals.
12. ALL POULTRY ARE TO BE ENTERED WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12 AND THURSDAY,

10. All rabbits must be picked up Saturday night at close of show. No rabbit will be released
earlier.

GENERAL RULES

Entries will be limited to Junior Exhibitors, open to all without regard to County or State
or residence. See “General Rules” page, in front of premium book for age definition of
Junior Exhibitor. Exhibitors MUST use Livestock Form.
Only pre-registered livestock will be accepted. Any changes in classification must be
approved by department chairmen.
Every animal must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor, and properly identified.

Cattle - brands or tattoos will not be acceptable as official identification. Animals must have a
tag with official identification.
Swine - recognized breed ear notches or tattoos will not be acceptable as official identification.

Sheep & Goats - All sheep and goats must be officially scrapie-identified.
Official identification for sheep and goats include the following:
a.) USDA-approved ear tags;
b.) Legible registration tattoos, for which the registration paper shall accompany the
animals; or
c.) Legible tattoos consisting of an individual animal number unique within the flock in one
ear and the official scrapie premise identification number (flock ID) in the other ear,
except that the tail web or flank may be used for earless animals or animals with
damaged ears and must be accompanied by an owner statement.

Exhibitors must state the number of animals and number of pens needed at the time of making
entries. Each individual livestock entry must include animals ID tag # or tattoo.
All livestock (cattle, swine, sheep & goats) must be accompanied by a current approved Health
Certificate signed by a licensed vet & pre-approved by MD Dept. Of Agriculture. Delaware
residents must have DE Dept. of Agriculture papers.
All exhibitors will be limited to two (2) entries per class.
Any animal shown in a fitting and showing class must be shown in a competition class, and all
persons showing in fitting and showing class must enter a competition class.
In the event there is but one (1) entry in a class, placing shall depend on the merit of the entry
and award made at the discretion of the judge .
All animals must be shown by owner unless previous approval has been granted by Livestock
Chairperson.
All entries are to be entered on Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13, between
4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and must be in place by Noon Friday, August 14th. Livestock weighin will be 9:00 a.m. until Noon on Friday.
Judging will begin at 2pm on Friday, August 14th. The schedule is included in front of book.
Each Exhibitor will provide their own food and bedding for Livestock.
Animals must stay in pens. Animals are not permitted outside Livestock Area.
Lights out and no grooming of animals will be allowed after 11:00 pm.
Every effort will be made to protect the animals while in the custody of the show, but the Farm
& Home Show Committee disclaims any responsibility for the loss or damage to property or
person.
Pen space must be cleaned up after removal of animals or premiums will be forfeited.
Animals cannot be removed until completion of Awards Ceremony, Sunday, August 16, 2015.
No livestock exhibitor may spend the night on the grounds without a parent present.
Discrepancies are at the discretion of Chair & Co-chair.

GENERAL RULES
1. All exhibits for competition must be entered in the name of the maker. Any previously
exhibited jar will not be eligible to compete. All entries must be made after the completion of last
years show. All exhibits must conform to the type of jars specified in each class. All jars must
be standard quart, pint, or half pint and must be marked as to the manufacturer, such as
Mason, Ball or Kerr. Only clear jars will be accepted. No pink, green or blue jars will be
accepted. All entries must be dated with the month and year. Jar rings must be on jars.
Do not cover tops of jars with fabric or paper. The name of exhibitor should not be on the
exhibit.
2. All jellies, jams, preserves and marmalades must be sealed by water bath method.
Vegetables must be pressure canned. These are USDA regulations.
3. Collections will be judged on variety, quality, attractiveness, and educational value. All best
collections of twelve (12) entries must be contained in a sturdy box or basket separate from other
entries. All jars entered in a collection must also be individually entered in each class. All jars
must be labeled as to contents and dated. It is the judges discretion in regards to opening and
taste testing any entries.
4. Miscellaneous class entries should have no named class and should be identified on the jar.
5. Entries are judged on Liquid & Content level.
6. Candidates for “Best in Show” may be opened, at the judges discretion, to verify contents and
taste tested.

Ball and Kerr Fresh Preserving Products is proud to recognize today’s fresh preserving
(canning) enthusiasts. First and Second Place Awards and Fresh Preserving Product Coupons
will be given to individuals judged as the best in designated categories.
A panel of judges will select the two best entries for Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle, and Soft
Spread categories. Entries must be preserved in Ball Jars with Ball Lids and Bands, or Ball
Collection Elite jars sealed with Collection Elite Lids and Banks, or preserved in Kerr jars

GENERAL RULES
1. All exhibits are to be grown by the exhibitor.
2. Quantities specified in the exhibit will be strictly adhered to.
3. Exhibits will be judged on the basis of quality, condition, uniformity and trueness
of variety. In order to rate the highest in quality, the product must be in the best
edible stage. It should be free from blemishes caused by disease, insects or other factors.
The term uniformity applies to size, shape and color as representative of the variety.
The average size from the commercial standpoint, rather than the largest specimens,
should be examined. No oil polish is allowed.
4. Educational value of Best Garden collection is to be determined by the way in which the exhibit
is made intelligible to the visiting public from the standpoint of kinds and varieties of
vegetables,
characteristics and other information. The vegetables in this collection must be
grown by the exhibitor.
5. There is no age break in the classes for Juniors.
