Parent Teacher conferences are a best practice and gives both the parent (s) and the teacher (s) chance to discuss the student and ways they can work to work together as a team. What parents need to know ... What is my child expected to learn this year? What will be child be tested/evaluated on? How do the results affect my child? What can I do to stay more involved in my child’s academic progress? How do you accommodate differences in learning? How are older students prepared for further learning after high school? To prepare for the conference here are points to discuss: Information about your child Share any concerns and inform the teacher of any circumstances or experiences going on in the home. Ask how your child is socially and/or emotionally in class? Does he have friends? Is he happy? Does he like school? Ask what areas does your child need improvement? Strengths? Academic Performance Ask if your child performing on grade level? Does he try his best? Does he need help in any specific skills or subject ? Is tutoring available? Special Needs If your child is in ESE or has a 504, what are the accommodations for your child? How does the school deal with his special needs? How can you be more involved How can you help or volunteer? How can you contact the teacher? What is the best method of communication? Ask the teacher for suggestions or advice?
