Fifth Sunday of Easter - Quinto Domingo de Pascua
Sunday Reflection
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last Sunday, we celebrated as a
Church Good Shepherd Sunday
acknowledging Jesus Christ as the
shepherd of us all, the one whom we
should listen to and the one whom we
follow. Within our Church, we also have bishops who carry
on Christ works for their respective diocese and we have
priests who are named “pastors” as they are given the
responsibility of leading a parish. It is with great joy that I
announce that I have been appointed Pastor of Our Lady of
Peace Parish effective July 1, 2016. With this appointment,
Archbishop Gomez has given me the responsibility of
leading our parish spiritually and administratively for the
next 6 years. In essence, I am committing my life to serving
this wonderful parish of Our Lady of Peace. As we look at
the next six years, it is my hope that we all can commit
ourselves to the great mission of our parish as we continue
to serve God and one another. Please keep me in your
prayers and know that you are always in mine.
We also received word of another great announcement that
I would like to share with you. Last Sunday was also World
Day of Prayer for Vocations, Deacon Luis Espinoza, our
seminarian and transitional deacon, has received his official
call to the Sacred Order of Priest from Archbishop José H.
Gomez. After many years of formation, Deacon Luis will be
ordained a priest on Saturday, June 4th at the Cathedral of
Our Lady of the Angels. This news is a blessing for us as
parish as we can claim one of the new priests as our own
out of the 286 parishes in the archdiocese. Deacon Luis will
be celebrating his First Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday,
June 5th at 2PM. All are invited to his Mass of Thanksgiving
as we celebrate as a whole community. The mass will be in
English and Spanish.
This year, it was decided not to have Tiger Fest which was
our Spring Fiesta in support of our school. In place of it, we
will be having a Spring Pageant on Saturday, May 14th in
the evening. This event consists of food, games, a raffle
and a crowning of a king or queen amongst our students.
All are invited to attend this great event in support of our
parish school.
Finally, please pray for our confirmation candidates who will
be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday
morning. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide then as faith
-filled disciples of Christ.
Our Lady of Peace… pray for us.
Queridos Hermanos y Hermanas,

As Father told us last Sunday, we are all called to be Shepherds...in our home, church,
community, and workplace. We are called to lead with dignity, grace, and charity. And as
Shepherds, God calls us to bring our values into the political conversation. How do we do this???
Come hear how we can as Bishop Joseph Brennan guides and informs our parish on the actions
we can take during this important election year.

We will be raising funds to help Father Ken's Ministry of

Nigeria. For more info or tickets contact Bob at 818891-3239.

chicken Alfredo with all the trimmings. Adults $18 and
children under 12 for $9. It is a great deal for a great
cause!
YOUR CALLS NEEDED TO STOP TAX PAYER FUNDED OF
PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE
In October, physician assisted suicide became legal in California.
Currently, AB 2810 has been introduced in the California legislature
and will be voted on shortly. The bill would require California tax
payers to pay for the lethal drug used for physician assisted
suicide. As Catholics we believe life to be sacred from conception
to natural death. This bill violates our religious freedom and forces
us to pay for something that goes against our conscience and
beliefs. Your phone calls to assembly members are urgently
needed. Please call this week to voice your opposition and
request a NO vote on AB 2810. For more information on this bill

Preventing child sexual abuse is a
partnership. It requires education,
training, and action from parents, other
adults, organizations, and children. As
adults, we need to learn to recognize
other adults who are a risk to kids – ours
and the others in the community. April is Child
Abuse Prevention Month, which gives us all an
opportunity to learn more about what the
Archdiocese of Los Angeles is doing to prevent
child sexual abuse from happening. For more

Prevention Programs for Adults and Children

infantil. Para más información sobre los Programas
de Prevención del Abuso Sexual Infantil VIRTUS®,
