It is a great chance to check out where you want to get involved. Last Sunday, the FIESTA was a HUGE success. It was so beautiful to see our parish together having fun and eating such tremendous food. I was very touched to watch Gene Seaver sit back and enjoy the day. Gene and his wife, Pat, were key in getting the Spanish-speaking community off the ground here at Holy Apostles. He is known as “El Hombre Guapo,” which means, “handsome man.” What a beautiful day we had! Thanks to all who came out. Thank you to all the people who made this day happen. Thanks to Fr. Rubén for his servant leadership. The highlight of my day was when one of our Englishspeaking parishioners said to me that they could have not done it without the help of these two Mexican ladies and then said that he now knows what I mean about the vibrancy of our Mexican people. It doesn’t get any better than that. Have a Blessed Week! Page 4 Your Gifts Help SVdPS Provide Assistance This summer, our neighbors in need continue to ask for food as one of their primary needs. These neighbors are often hard-working individuals who are trying to support their families with minimum-wage jobs. Some are providing room and board to extended family while others are striving to work while battling devastating illnesses. The faces are unique, but their need for nourishment for their bodies and spirits remain constant. Thank you for your prayers for our neighbors in need as well as your generosity to the Poor Box. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. Matthew 25:35 Hope Takes Action Workshop Offered ‘Hope Takes Action’, a program of the Society of St Vincent de Paul, has a mission to “Empower Individuals to Transition to Self-sufficiency with Community Support”. We will be conducting our first ‘Getting Ahead in a Just GettingBy World’ workshop series for those individuals motivated to escape poverty in September. We cannot do this alone. We need your help. We are looking for compassionate people willing to mentor the ‘Getting Ahead’ graduates as they transition out of poverty. Mentors ‘walk’ with and offer friendship as the graduates implement their personal plan to succeed. Mentors DO NOT support the graduates financially. Please consider being a mentor to those needing a hand up while they strive to get out of poverty. Our next mentor training will August 27, 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the Mary Hall of St Mary Church, McHenry. For information visit hopetakesaction.net or call Bill Meath at 815-385-3251. St. Peregrine Cancer Support Group Meeting This multi-parish group of cancer survivors was formed to offer a place for individuals, families, caregivers, and anyone concerned about cancer to meet with others to share information, stories and pray together. They will meet next on Tuesday, September 13, at 10 AM in St. Ambrose/St. Catherine rooms in Apostles Bay. Location of the meetings rotate from Holy Apostles, St. John in Johnsburg, St. Patrick in McHenry and St. Peter in Spring Grove. For details contact Jeanne Fraser at 815-388-0164 or jfraser@thechurchofholyapostles.org. All are welcome and invited to attend.
