Warwick will welcome an estimated 30,000 visitors to the 23rd annual Applefest on
Sunday, October 2, from 10 am to 5 pm. The festival will host over 240 craft and food
vendors, a variety of free live-stage performances including music and dance groups,
carnival rides for children, and an apple pie baking contest.
On the Friday and Saturday before Applefest, families can also enjoy rides, music
and food when the Warwick Valley Community Center hosts two fun pre-Applefest
Carnival evenings at Stanley-Deming Park. The Carnival will be open on Friday,
September 30 from 5 pm to 10 pm; and Saturday, October 1 from 4 pm to 10 pm, with
a $15 wristband price on those two evenings only.

A Giving Membership
Membership Chair Sherry Bukovcan
It is a great feeling to be a part of an
organization whose members give so
generously of their resources to support the functions and activities of their
community. Among other things, this includes the New Member Luncheons organized by the Warwick Valley Chamber
of Commerce. On behalf of WVCC, I
would like to thank Rogowski Farm in
Pine Island, Ciao Bella of Warwick, and
El Azteca in Florida for hosting New
Member Luncheon for the months of
June, July and August.

Chamber Supports St. Anthony Hospital at Awards
Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce President Garrett Durland represented
the Chamber on August 11, 2011 as hospital administration and employees gathered to
celebrate the hospital’s prestigious national award for patient satisfaction. St. Anthony
Community Hospital was in the top 15% for the nation and top 10% for the state.
October is National Arts and Humanities Month
In celebration of National Arts and Humanities month, the Orange County Arts
Council encourages Chamber members to take advantage of the art related events and
activities happening this month. The Orange County Open Studio Tour South will be
held the weekend of October 22 & 23 with an opening reception on Friday, October 21
at the Seligmann Estate in Sugar Loaf. The tour is self-guided of local performing and
visual art studios and venues. Maps may
be found in local libraries, restaurants
and shops. Fifty-one Orange County artists will be opening their doors to demonstrate their work and engage people in the
creative process. To find out more, visit

Mark D. Kalish, CFP, Senior Financial
Advisor with Ameriprise Financial, attended the 2011 Circle of Success conference that was held in Montreal, Canada.
To earn this achievement, Kalish established himself as one of the company’s
top producers and achieved high levels in
production and measures of success that
support the experience of superior client
service. Only a select number of highperforming Ameriprise financial advisors earn this distinction. Kalish’s office

“It felt like home.”
Always Reliable Garage Doors, offering residential and commercial repair and
new operator installation, has moved to
Warwick. Owner Donald Nusio relocated
from Long Island after several visits with
his wife, Debbie, who just fell in love with
the area. “There are so few places left
with that quaint, small town feel, when
we drove through, it just felt like home.”
With their two children away at school,
it seemed like the perfect time to make
the move. Don opened Always Reliable
Garage Doors in 2004 with 19 years
of experience with the slogan, “We care
about our customers, that says it all.” Call
(845) 544 7575, www.alwaysreliable.net.
Fashions Fade,
Style is Eternal
Yves Saint Laurent made this statement
which applies to Chamber member avanti
on their twentieth September anniversary of offering understated and elegant
clothing to the Hudson Valley. Visit their
website, www.avantiboutique.com, for a
preview of timeless classics with a twist.
Reflexology
The Foot Spa and Tea Bar, located
at 36 South Street in Warwick, offers
reflexology and complimentary teas.
Reflexology is a relaxing holistic technique which treats the entire body involving gentle pressure to specific points on
the feet. These points directly relate to
the internal organs of the body. It can help
with circulation, blood pressure, and ease
everyday aches and pains. Stop in for a
session or just to enjoy a cup of herbal tea
and say hello. Call (845) 986-7174.

Great Jazz & Farm Aid
Warwick Valley Jazz Festival musicians performed at the Warwick Farm
Aid Benefit on Sunday, September 25 to
bring in funding for this worthy cause.
The Warwick Valley Jazz Festival
was held in August for the second smooth
year, and turned out to be quite a successful four-day event. The great American
musical art form, better known as jazz,
was celebrated in a host of local venues—
heard in such popular Warwick haunts
as Coquito, The Dautaj, Warwick
Grove, and Utopian Direction Books &
Art. The Village of Warwick Concert
Series and the Music in the Courtyard
Concert Series also held a coinciding fourteen-show festival this summer.
Festival organizer Steve Rubin wishes to
thank the venue owners, sponsors, audience, and the wonderful musicians who
made this all possible.
Scenic Townhomes
Warwick Grove is now selling townhomes and single-family homes in The
Conservation Series final phase. With
scenic nature views, they’re the last best
of Warwick Grove, a timeless neighborhood for active adults featuring homes
with classic architecture and contemporary floor plans. A very limited number
of condominium, townhomes and singlefamily homes are available in our first
phases at extreme savings. Return to village life at Warwick Grove and enjoy
all that our vibrant village of Warwick
has to offer, just minutes away from your
dream home. Warwick Grove Showcase
& Design Center, 4 Hudson Street, (845)
988-5274, www.warwick-grove.com.
It is mid-September, and we are still recovering
from Hurricane Irene. Most of us are okay, but
our Black Dirt Farmers are suffering enormously
from ruined crops. As is typical of our wonderful
area, a grass roots fund-raising program was
instigated by Paul Caskey, Ray Bryant and
Cheryl Rogowski, titled Warwick Valley Farm Aid. In order to facilitate
distribution of the proceeds, an application process for farmers is currently
being developed. The Chamber assisted this worthy effort by collecting
credit card donations on our WVCC website, absorbing all of the credit
card fees. Thank you to all who came together to help our people in need –
it was truly appreciated!
On September 13th, after a stressful period of “nail-biting,” we were
blessed with a night of perfect weather for our 18th annual Taste of
Warwick. The 24 area restaurants provided a delectable variety of
samplings for nearly 300 guests. The event was enhanced by the Warwick
Valley Winery & Distillery’s new outdoor patio space, and the E’lissa Jones
Trio provided fabulous music, contributing to the memorable evening. A
heartfelt thank you goes out to this year’s major sponsors: St. Anthony’s
Community Hospital and Aspen Environmental.
The Warwick Merchant’s Guild has never been more active, and their
efforts have been exceptional thus far this year. Recent events included
the Sidewalk Sale and the quickly-becoming-famous Ladies’ Nite Out.
Enthusiastic congratulations are extended to all our hard-working
merchants.
Our 23rd Annual Applefest, true to form, promises to be a spectacular
event yet again. It is good to remember that many non-profit organizations
benefit from this one-day fund raiser every year.
To give you a little “heads-up” on upcoming fall Chamber events: Our
72nd Annual Chamber Dinner, November 12th at the Warwick Valley
Country Club, will be a “not to be missed” event. December 8th will see
our festive Holiday Mixer, this time being held at Catlin Garden’s new
facilities. Get your reservations in early for both celebrations. We hope to
see you there! As is my habit and pleasure, I’d like to share some Chamber
statistics for the last three months: 9 ribbon cuttings; 12 networking events;
31 new members. Speaking of networking… it’s a great idea and a proven
method of increasing awareness of who you are and what your business is
about. I hope to see you all at our fall luncheons, dinners, and mixers!
Seely & Durland Garners National Recognition
Seely & Durland Insurance had the privilege of being honored as the Marketing
Agency of the Month by the renowned insurance publication, Rough Notes Company.
The article appears in the September 2011 edition which just hit the streets nationwide.
This is a tremendous honor for Seely & Durland, based on many factors which include
relationships within their home town; use of technology to improve the level of service
to their clients; and overall community service. One of the photographs in this issue is
our WVCC Executive Director in front of the Caboose. To read the article online, go to

State of the Art Professional Shred Truck
With all the news regarding identity theft and regulations concerning proper disposal of personal and confidential information, many business owners
wonder what to do. The easiest, safest, and most secure option is to outsource
your shredding to a professional document destruction service like SK Paper
Shred. SK Paper Shred provides locked security consoles free of charge to
use. They then stop by your business on a monthly basis, empty and shred the
contents on-site with SK Paper Shred’s state of the art shred truck. When
the process is finished, the customer receives a “Certificate of Destruction” for
record keeping. Visit our SK Paper Shred’s website for more information at
www.skpapershred.com or call (973) 875-3444.
