Maximum number of birds is 75 per youth and the minimum is 25 per youth. Turkey order form is located in the back of the newsletter. For Turkey rules for Atascosa County Stock Show visit http://aclsweb.org Goat Ear Validation Tag Orders Goat ear validation tags for the upcoming 2013 Market County and Major stock shows are due August 9th. $9.00 for major/county market stock show per animal; or $1.00 for county market stock show per animal. Breeding Goats do not need ear tags for breeding stock shows; only $1.00 ear tag if entering in the market show at our county stock show. Breeding Goats should have a Scrapie Tag – tags are given by the breeders Mail in your ear tag form (form in the back of the newsletter) with money or come by the extension office by August 9th. Box 88, Refugio, TX 78377; 361-646-9410 Saturday, August 24th – A Beef Project Workshop to be held at Darold & Debbie Norment’s Home located at 455 County Road 429 in Pleasanton, just three miles off 281 S. All exhibitors with steer and heifer projects are urged to attend. Bring your project and trim shoot, if possible. Anyone interested in learning more about the project is also welcome. Topics and demonstrations include clipping, fitting, showmanship, etc. The program will begin promptly at 9:00a.m. A Potluck Meal is planned. Please contribute. Mr. & Mrs. Norment will provide a BBQ pit for items needing to be cooked at the event. . Please call and let us know what dish/meat/dessert you plan to donate; (830)570-9722 or 570-1364. The Senior Atascosa Rifle Team competed at the Texas 4-H Roundup Indoor Rifle Match in Victoria June 8th. The contests consisted of 30 teams and 109 contestants. The team placed 23rd overall. The team members included Maverick Sanders, Carlos Garcia, Travis Bonner, Justin Meyer and Coach Jim Meyer. Webb County 4-H Whizbang June 1st & 2nd, 2013 Hunter Miller received 1st place in Junior Division Saturday and Sunday (Pictured). Nathan Ricks placed 2nd in Skeet and Trap. Garner Kemp placed 3rd in Trap. Bandera County 4-H Invitational Garner Kemp (left) got 1st place in 5-stand Whizbang division and Nathan Ricks (right) placed 4th in Trap and Skeet. New Shotgun Website!!! The Atascosa Clay Poppers website was developed to inform 4Hers in shooting sports projects when contests are being held, when registration is open, to post results and pictures of local 4Hers, and to promote shooting sports in general to the public in Atascosa County. The website was put together by Mr. Jess Kemp. They competed in numerous events and were very successful. Way to go ladies!!. Texas Horse Show July 20th- July 27th Taylor County Expo Center Abilene, TX Registration for State Horse Show closes July 1st. August 22nd- Thursday, County Council Officer meeting at 7pm, Coastal Bend College, Pleasanton, TX. July 23rd – Club Officer & Manager Workshop 6-8pm; Jourdanton Community Center New Ambassador & Council Officers and newly elected 4-H club Presidents and council delegates from each 4-H club should attend all ambassador & council meetings during the year, so you can share information from meetings with your 4-H Club. Ambassador and Council meetings meet quarterly and are scheduled for the upcoming year: the fourth Thursday, August 22, 2013, third Thursday November 21, 2013, fourth Thursday January 23, 2014 and second Thursday May 8, 2014. Workshop is for club officers for the new year 2013-2014. Club managers are also requested to attend to plan for upcoming new year on club meetings, programs and activities. Games, prizes, fun activities and refreshments will also be part of workshop. Study and know your parliamentary procedure and club officer rules. Anyone is welcome to attend. July 15th – County Council Officer – Workshop Meeting All County Council Officers will need to meet at the extension office on July 15th with Mr. Rankin at 6pm. We will be discussing what activities the officers will be doing and how the Club Officer/Manager Training Workshop can be more educational and fun for both adults and students. Doors open at 4pm to decorate the cafeteria – please come out and volunteer your time. Food catered by BeBe Trevino Catering. Adults $5.00 per plate, 4-H’s $2.50 per plate – deadline to place and buy meal tickets July 26th. Desserts with serving utensils are needed from 4-H families. A Community Service table will be set up during banquet for “School Supplies for kids in Moore” Items needed include notebooks, writing utensils, folders, paper, backpacks, glue, crayons, etc. Atascosa 4-H Scholarship Merit committee will be having a Silent auction Table during the awards presentation, they are asking from individuals or 4-H clubs to donate items. Items can be dropped off at the extension office. Photos of 4-Hers are needed for the power point presentation – Please send by email to Kristan.Jenschke@ag.tamu.edu or drop off at the extension office before or by July 30th. Certificates and awards will be presented to members that competed in any county, district, or state 4-H contest for 2012-2013 year. Every 4-Her and family members are invited to the banquet. South Region 4-H Range Day August 9th, 2013 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM La Copita Research and Demonstration Ranch, Ben Bolt, Tx Registration deadline: July 19th Fee: $15 (covers lunch and comes with t-shirt) Late fee: $25(no t-shirt included) Did you know that learning plants and how to determine how much livestock you can run is a 4-H contest? This fun training day will help prepare for contests this upcoming year, as well as teach and reinforce a ton of knowledge. There will be lunch, door prizes, and some nice friendly competition. All 4-H members and parents are welcome. Applications can be picked up at the Extension Office or on the Atascosa 4-H Facebook website. Each year, the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Opportunity Scholarship Program is conducted in coordination with the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program, the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Scholarships are awarded to applicants based on their academic record, 4-H experience, and financial need. On June 10th, Jaclyn Bonner of Lytle 4-H was awarded the maximum amount $18,000 scholarship by donor Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and honored at the Texas 4-H Opportunity Scholarship Assembly of Texas 4-H Roundup in College Station. Counties will again be able to earn $2.85/ticket for their local 4-H program. This year’s promotional item is still to be determined. For a copy of the flyer, you can find it on the Atascosa 4-H Facebook page or can come by the extension office. 18 Record Books were judged for County Contest on June 28 th. The 1st place Record Books will advance to the District Record Book Contest in Kingsville and will be judged July 10th. Those who plan on competing must have their record books back at the extension office no later than July 8th. Everyone who submitted a record book can come pick them up.
