Remember TSA in
Your Will By Wally Paynter
Making a difference in our community is important.
TSA has worked to serve our community since 1980. To
make a difference in our community, donations of time
and money have always been very important.
One way to continue to make a difference is by remembering TSA in your estate planning. I choose to volunteer for the 2 charities that are the most important to
me and my life (TSA and the First Presbyterian Church of
Evansville). As I prepared my will, I have included TSA,
and my church in my estate planning. Though this will not
be a lot of money, it will be my way to help make a difference in the future after I am gone.
I encourage you to consider the Tri-State Alliance as
your prepare your estate. Our legal name is the
Tri-State Alliance, Inc., our address is PO Box 2901, Evansville, IN 47728, and our Federal ID number is
35-1636272. Whether you remember us in your will, life
estate or in your life insurance, you can help us continue
to make a difference. TSA has served our region for 32
years, and your consideration will help us continue to
make a difference into the future! Contact me at 812-4800204 or wallypaynter@aol.com for more information.

NAACP Statement on “Religious Freedom”
Legislation in Indiana and Arkansas
April 03, 2015
BALTIMORE, Md. – After a national and state-wide uproar over bills promoted as religious
freedom measures and criticized as discriminatory against lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender (LGBT) individuals, state lawmakers in Indiana and in Arkansas approved new
legislation to remove the most contentious language. In Indiana, legislators passed a series of
changes to the Bill, while still not outlawing anti-gay discrimination, clarified that the religious
freedom law does not authorize such discrimination. Lawmakers in Arkansas, acting at the urging of the governor, passed a measure that is nearly identical to the federal Religious Freedom
and Restoration Act.
“The NAACP's constitution affirmatively states that our objective is to ensure the 'political,
educational, social and economic equality' of all people. Therefore, the NAACP has opposed
and will continue to oppose any national, state or local policy that seeks to codify discrimination or hatred into the law or to remove the Constitutional rights of LGBT citizens. Religious
freedom is a constitutional value that we both celebrate and recognize as it is woven into the
fabric of who we are as a nation. Furthermore, we believe that every American deserves to live
a safe and just life, free of prejudice and discrimination. The NAACP will continue to work to
ensure that all Americans are protected from discrimination, regardless of their race, ethnicity,
gender, point of national origin, or genuine or perceived sexual orientation.”

Tri-State Alliance President reacts to Supreme
Court arguments on gay marriage
By Natalie Russell, WFIE News, April 28
The U.S. Supreme Court heard historic arguments Tuesday on the issue of gay marriage. In
Evansville, Wally Paynter with the Tri-State Alliance has been following the hearings. Right
now, if a couple gets married in a state where gay marriage is legal their rights may not be recognized in a state that does not allow it. Paynter says he is hopeful marriage will soon be legal
in all 50 states so there won't be any issue when it
comes to recognizing marriages in different locations.
Paynter says the Supreme Court arguments are
getting more people to talk about the issue and become educated. "I think it's exciting to see public
opinion changing and people coming out in support of our rights and the dialogue from the other
side from people who oppose same sex couples,”
Paynter said. “Some of the dialogue is changing
because people don't want to be seen as someone
who discriminates against people who are different
than themselves." The rulings are expected to be
issued in late June.
