WELCOME TO ST. EDWARD CHURCH
St. Edward Mission Statement
St. Edward Church is a Catholic community of believers, rich in tradition and growing in diversity. Recognizing the equality of all
persons in the eyes of God, we provide an atmosphere in which parishioners of all ages and cultures share faith through sacramental
and Liturgical celebrations, ongoing faith-formation, support of our school and other social and spiritual events which enable us to
connect our faith with the world in which we live and lead our members to eternal salvation.

THE WEEK AHEAD
Sunday October 5, 2014
“By the Lord has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes” “Christ has given us the
ministry of reconciliation.” Saint Paul thus
brings out the greatness of the apostles
by showing us the ministry that was entrusted to them, and at the same time he
shows us the love with which God loved
us. After humankind refused to listen to
him who had been sent to them, God did
not let his anger burst forth; he did not
reject them. He persisted in calling them
himself and through the apostles. Who
would not marvel at so much solicitude?
They killed the Son who had come to reconcile them, who was the only Son and of
the same nature as the Father. The Father did not turn away from the murderers,
he did not say: I sent them my Son, and
they, not satisfied with not having listened
to him, put him to death and crucified him.
He did the opposite, and after Christ had
left the earth, it is we, his ministers, who
have the responsibility to replace him. “He
has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
I mean that God, in Christ, was reconciling
the world to himself, not counting men’s
transgressions against them.”What love
that goes beyond all words and all intelligence! Who had been insulted? He himself, God. And who takes the first step
towards reconciliation? He himself. If God
had wanted to make us give an account,
we would truly be lost, since “all died”. In
spite of our many sins, he did not strike
with his vengeance, but he even reconciled us to himself.

la banqueta; estacionados en el cambio entre dos calles;
estacionados entre 30 pies (10 metros) de una esquina. Por favor, estacionen sus carros legalmente. Si

THE “BLACK MADONNA” TO VISIT
(SAINT EDWARD CHURCH)
The icon of “Our Lady of Czestochowa” (“the Black Madonna”) is reputed to have been “written” on
Mary’s table top from her house in
Nazareth by Luke the Evangelist. She
has been credited with numerous
miracles and healings – both of a spiritual and physical
nature. A beautiful copy of this icon has been blessed
and consecrated at the monastery of Jasna Gora in Poland, where the original is kept, and entrusted to the
defense of life and family. Now, after traveling 40,000
miles from Vladivostok in Russia through 24 countries
in Europe, she will be visiting our parish on her global
pilgrimage. Please join us as we welcome her to St.
Edward to ask for her protection of life and family as
well as personal petitions. A welcoming ceremony and
bilingual Mass will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday,
October 13th. The shrine on the south side of the
church is dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa, so we
are especially happy to welcome this pilgrim icon.
