He said that ministers shouldn’t be paid like they are in those large ministries. I said, why do you feel that way? He said, it sets a bad example and makes people think ministers are in it for the money. I said, how much of an income should a minster make? They are available for emergencies, counseling, weddings, and funerals, visiting the sick, visiting in the home, teaching bible studies, and performing Sunday morning services, mentoring others for ministry, board meetings, and committee meetings along with community outreach. Now let’s take one at a time, shall we. How much would it cost to call an emergency service to come to your home to help you, several hundred dollars? How much does it cost to see a paid councilor an hour $75.00 dollars an hour? If you were to go a minister whose church you don’t attend, how much would it cost you for him to perform the rehearsal and the wedding $150, $200 dollars? He said, I just think they don’t need to have the nicest cars and nicest homes, they are supposed to be servants. I said, in the business that your in aren’t you a servant to the business and the customers it serves. Should you have the nice home and cars you have and you don’t help people now and prepare them for eternity. In parting; I said, it’s a shame that the worse employers seem to be in the church. They want everything I mentioned earlier from their minister and more. But give in return like it is worth nothing. Apostle Paul said, “I have sowed unto you spiritual things, should I not receive of you physical things?” May God help us to see the value of those who watch over our souls?
