2008 Annual Report
From the
Leadership:
2007-2008 saw the beginning of
several major projects that
continued into the next fiscal year.
■ Wood floors were repaired,
sanded, and refinished.
■ The maintenance staff worked
hard to clean the fireplace tiles
and glass lighting fixtures.
■ All the chandeliers and door
knobs were removed, polished,
and lacquered.
■ Roman shades were selected
for new window treatments.
But how to pay for all this? As
always, our loyal YWCA volunteers
stepped up. Blake Albright and

side of the building. The presence
of standing water in the pipes
in combination with the level of
deterioration witnessed in the pipes
supports the theory that the drain
pipes are the source of the flooding
problem in the basement. As of this
writing, we are still trying to clean
three of the pipes. Our hope is that
we will be able to clean them and
then insert liners to prevent water
seepage, although the pipes may
be too deteriorated for that option.
Just as we renovate our facilities
from time to time, so too, we have
to update our strategic plan. Our
process involved a rigorous look
at our programs and identified
appropriate strategies for each.
Our endowment fund decreased
by 10.7 percent during fiscal 2008,
with an ending value of $1.25
million.
On a national level, we began a
study on our Mission statement
that culminated in a revised
statement that we will adopt for
our bylaws at our Annual Meeting.
Our Mission has not changed, but
our new articulation of it makes it
more clear for all of us to know and
remember what our work is about:
The YWCA of Lancaster is
dedicated to eliminating racism,
empowering women, and
promoting peace, justice,
freedom and dignity for all.
