But how to pay for all this? As always, our loyal YWCA volunteers stepped up. Blake Albright and First, who knew when Peter Barber Carol Pyfer initiated a new YWCA of Two Dudes Painting Co. issued society in honor of Mary Kepler (Board President 1909-1934). us a challenge in the form of an The Mary Kepler Society, made offer to paint the Library for free if up of former Board presidents, we would furnish it appropriately took on raising funds for the library that it would lead to $90,000 of restoration. The presence of standing water in the pipes in combination with the level of deterioration witnessed in the pipes supports the theory that the drain pipes are the source of the flooding problem in the basement. As of this writing, we are still trying to clean three of the pipes. Our hope is that we will be able to clean them and then insert liners to prevent water seepage, although the pipes may be too deteriorated for that option. Just as we renovate our facilities from time to time, so too, we have to update our strategic plan. Our process involved a rigorous look at our programs and identified appropriate strategies for each. Our endowment fund decreased by 10.7 percent during fiscal 2008, with an ending value of $1.25 million. On a national level, we began a study on our Mission statement that culminated in a revised statement that we will adopt for our bylaws at our Annual Meeting. Our Mission has not changed, but our new articulation of it makes it more clear for all of us to know and remember what our work is about: The YWCA of Lancaster is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
